Thieves. Fetu had encountered enough of them in dark alleys and daytime sleeping spots to be extremely leery of the word. You never knew when a thief was going to turn out to be a sadist, or a rapist, or someone unexpectedly important out for their jollies, or any number of other unpleasant things. These two were Corvies. That had the potential to be unpleasant enough. What were their interests? The information provided by Corporal Rodney hadn't mentioned anything like that. Had they ever done research, and if so, what kind? The possibilities were endless and morbidly creepy if she thought about them for too long. At least she had a 'partner' to effectively distract her from disturbing herself too badly. And oh, what a partner. She wasn't entirely sure whether she should be glad to pair up with another new recruit or whether to reassure her superiors that she could go this one alone. She appreciated company. She disliked people. Why did she have to be wired this way? It made going through life so very difficult sometimes. At least her partner on this case had allowed for an evening investigation due to her unusual handicap. She still wore the ugly glasses so that she could function with all the bright city lights around her, but it was easier with a night sky. So much easier. And, luckily enough, one of the women who'd been robbed had agreed to meet with them at seven PM in a small restaurant just a block from her house for inquiries and more information. She hoped they didn't expect her to order anything. [Case Post Count: 1/15]

This was, indeed, riveting compared to her college career, that's for sure. Penny had never really dealt with anything like this before. Sure, people got robbed all the time, things were probably stolen left and right... she just never noticed. Now was a good time to put a head on her shoulders, she supposed. Speaking of which, she had never thought she was going to have this lovely lady as a partner. Penny wasn't about to argue the matter, she was more than happy to deal with company if they were willing to put up with her sarcastic comments when she had something to say. The information from Corporal Rodney was at least somewhat encouraging that the job wasn't going to be too painful if they managed to find the criminals. Corvies. She really hated dealing with them... maybe it was just because of the stereotype that they were all creepy as hell in Esterberry? This certainly wasn't helping. There were plenty of things that could go wrong when Corvies were involved. But they had an evening interview with one of the women who had been robbed. That was something to focus on other than worrying about something that may or may not happen. "You look pretty official with your sunglasses partner. How are we doing on time anyway? Don't want to be late for our date." she said idly. Someone had to break the damn silence. She didn't want to stare at the woman's ass the entire time. [Case Post Count: 1/15]

As much as she hated to admit it, there was something humiliating about being sent along with the pair of people she'd seen enlisting before her. They were all new to the force. Yet she was told to try and find them, to follow their lead as they sought out information on the criminals that would be their case. This was a new world, though, and Sorcha accepted that fact. Here, she wasn't the daughter of a Queen. Here, she was just a girl who was barely old enough to be given a badge of her own. She swallowed her pride and set out to the place she'd been told she'd likely find the pair, doing her best to come across as mature and ready to greet the day. Of course, she didn't know the Capital very well, and that certainly made it harder than it should have been to track the two women down. The fact that it was nighttime didn't entirely help the situation. But finally, after quite a lot of walking, Sorcha tracked the pair down. As soon as she saw them, the orbs that decorated her body lit up rather brightly and her expression did, too. She skipped over to the pair of Officers, grinning brightly at them as soon as she was close enough to get a better look at them. They both seemed fairly relaxed - hopefully she would manage to portray the same self-assuredness. " Heya, um... Fetu and Petunia?" She asked, her eyebrows raising as she gave them a hopeful grin. " I'm Sorcha. Uh, I was told that I should ask about following along with the two of you for a little while." Damn, but that was somewhat mortifying, wasn't it? [1/15]

Her partner was not a quiet girl. Fetu was slowly coming to realize this. Apparently silence was foreign to some people, a concept she had been introduced to during her travels but had never spent long periods of time investigating. It looks like she would have the opportunity now.
Joy and rapture.
Ah well. She had dealt with more annoying. Probably. She was sure. But perhaps not in close proximity?
...she had dealt with her mother. Never mind.
Without acknowledging the sunglasses comment, she glanced around to see if there were any clocks on display anywhere. No, apparently not here. Ah well. "I don't know what time it is. We have roughly five minutes left until we reach the cafe. I've walked this street before." There. She offered a scrap of information as well as answering the question. Maybe that would be acceptable for another period of silence?
No. It would not. She turned her head to the side and averted her eyes from the sudden increase in 'glow' around an individual approaching them. Hadn't she seen that girl in the lobby at the Academy? She didn't recall her name, but they had all reported to the Captain at the same time, as per Corporal Rodney's instructions.
"If that's what you were told then that's what you should do. We're going to speak to one of the victims. We should be there soon." She turned and continued walking, expecting them to follow. Not knowing the time, as Petunia said, she didn't want to be late for their... 'date'.

It was like talking to a brick wall. Petunia sighed as her humor went over the chipmunk's head. Maybe she should just talk to herself the rest of the way.
The Esterberry's head snapped around when she heard her name. Her eyes widened a bit as she saw the glowing girl. Aha! She was hanging around during sign ups. And now she was supposed to be with them? Huh.
This made Penny the lowest ranking card. Joy. Her ears fell briefly before she listened to Fetu. Suits that woman was as stiff as a board. She had met more Esterberries with a better sense of humor than her. Maybe it was a regional thing? The dog-deer had never met a Hisstor before.
"Nice to meet you Sorcha," Petunia said brightly as she turned to walk behind the chipmunk. "Everything is exactly as Fetu says. But don't mind her attitude, we're more than happy to have your company. We just... don't have watches and we might be running late."

Well, this was certainly quite the set of first impressions, wasn't it? Neither realm was one Sorcha was familiar with, and the three of them were all of different Suits, with Fetu carrying the highest rank of them all. That made the girl somewhat wary - in her own family, there was a wide range of personalities. Some of her siblings, aunts, or uncles didn't put much into being proper. Some did, however, and a slip of the tongue could end up being rather painful, Sorcha had found on one notable occasion.
But this was a different situation. Here, under their new offices, they were all equals. At least - they were equals in theory. Time would tell how true that ended up being, but for now, the girl wasn't entirely comfortable with testing the boundaries of it. The Hisstor girl didn't really seem entirely friendly, but it was almost certainly too early for Sorcha to be sure.
Petunia, on the other hand, greeted her warmly and her little ears perked forward, her canine tail giving a rather hesitant wag. It seemed as if it was time to move, however, and the rather enigmatic Fetu was giving her what seemed to be a run-down of the situation. She moved to follow after them, loping along rather fluidly as only a bat-mix could do. Her ears panned back again. "Ahh, understood. Unfortunately, I can't really offer very much assistance in regards to the watch, though..." her expression went thoughtful as she followed them along. "Hopefully I can be of some use with gathering information."
Really, she was nervous. Extremely nervous. Petunia's friendly attitude helped somewhat, but she still felt as if she was under some sort of handicap.

Thinking about it as they walked, Fetu supposed it was a good thing that someone else talkative had appeared to distract the Esterberry. At least now she wasn't the focus of Penny's attention and she didn't have to participate in conversations between them unless something desperately needed her response. Most things wouldn't.
She ignored the comment about attitude and kept on walking. It lent further strength to the girl's claim, but she didn't really care. She did have an attitude in most peoples' opinions, but she was also somewhat pleased to have more help. So long as the girl didn't become obnoxious during questioning, that was.
Within five minutes, they reached the restaurant and she scanned the tables for a Kahmden finch. The flash of maroon in a table near the corner caught her eye and she pointed at the table when the host approached them. "We're with her," she said simply and walked towards the table. Good thing most spaces for three could also accommodate a fourth or Sorcha would be standing awkwardly by the end of the table. She took a seat on one of the raised cushions and introduced herself.
The woman asked to see all of their badges in a nervous sort of way. She seemed a timid, jumpy sort, though whether or not that was entirely due to the circumstances was debatable. Something about her screamed 'easy mark'. She was a Four of Spades and had been moving supplies several blocks for her employer when the two men in question waylaid her. They took the two bags she'd been carrying and the woman lost her job for it.
Corporal Rodney had suggested that she keep a pen and pad of paper ready for circumstances like these. Since she seemed to be the only one of her group to have an especially easy time with paw-based writing implements, she took notes.

Petunia didn't hesitate to follow the chipmunk. Being a Jack of anything must have added a great deal of confidence, just waltzing into a restaurant like this seemed awkward and inelegant. Then again they had a job to do.
Easy mark indeed. After the brief and polite introduction, the canine-mix felt sorry for the woman to some degree. It must have been a pretty shitty experience being robbed and losing your job for it. There were probably plenty of ways she could have prevented it to. Either way Penny felt the ask addition questions concerning the men. Had they been armed? What had she been carrying at the time? Had there been any witnesses to the mugging that she knew of? Was there anything strange about either of the men?
Diamond charm was her saving grace. It certainly made things less awkward when you could cordial ask questions without sounding like a bitch.

The instant Sorcha's eyes came to rest on the Kahmden bird, she felt a pang of regret tug at her heartstrings. The poor thing really hadn't deserved what had ended up happening to her, and the news that it had even cost her a job just made it seem that much worse. The hybrid graciously showed the woman her new badge, giving her a soft smile as they all settled in to figure the matter at hand out.
With Fetu taking the lead in terms of writing - something that made Sorcha feel just a little bit more comfortable - and Petunia taking advantage of her Diamond Charm and leading the questioning, she couldn't help but feel a little bit useless. That wasn't what she was here for, however, and so she sat tall, following closely along with the conversation and occasionally requesting additional information whenever the woman got somewhat vague. They needed to know everything that they could about the men, but they also needed to know about where the crime had occurred exactly.
That could potentially lead them to more information about the criminals, and perhaps it could even be used to find other witnesses or even other people who had been robbed. Sorcha's eyes lit up as she requested the exact location the crime had taken place at. After all, the City wasn't a small place.

Penny's Diamond ability worked like a charm, easing the woman into questions that she might have otherwise had trouble recounting. She trembled a little at the memory of fear as she talked.
The men had said they were armed, but the Kahmden hadn't actually seen any weapons herself. She had been transporting some of her boss's personal items from one office to another as they prepared for a building move, things small enough to be carried but that wouldn't comfortably fit into the coach they'd hired. Rather than pay for another one, the smaller items were kept out for employees to help transport. There had been office supplies, photographs, one or two personal knickknacks, and other miscellaneous items that no one could remember off the top of their heads.
There would have been witnesses, since she had been on a street with normal traffic, except that the men had pulled her into an alleyway as she passed, one of them blocking the scene with his body while the other held her against the brick and threatened her harm unless she handed over her possessions. She hadn't put up a fight, just shoved the bags at them and cowered until they left after a few more threats. It was mostly the terrier that had spoken. He was also the one who held her against the wall.
Unusual? Well... one of the men, the canine again, had seemed to be favoring his right leg during their retreat. She had caught a glimpse of white on the black and red right before he rounded the corner at the end of the alley and run out of sight. It may have been a bandage. This all happened only one block away from their new office building on Kimble Street.
Fetu wrote down bits and pieces as the woman spoke, catching what she could without interrupting. If she stopped the woman, they might not get her going again. When she mentioned bandages, that caught her attention the most. That bit hadn't been included in the report. Points to Penny for asking, and she would have to remember that question. Maybe they could investigate patient records for some of the docs in town, or see if anyone remembered treating this pair.
Having a Diamond to ask questions was more useful than she would have thought.
And they were almost done with this woman.
