The 'child' stared at the Whippet, her golden eyes intent. "I hope you're worth our time," she said in a serious, chilling tone of voice, and then curled her lip in a much more childish and distasteful expression. "You certainly smell like you've been in here a little while. Blech."
Watching Mephit pull him out and handle him, Marie circled around them both once, and ended her circuit behind the man for a second time. She reached out one small human hand and poked him sharply in the back. "There isn't much meat on him. He'll probably bleed out really easy. You might have to keep an eye on that. If he thrashes, you're in for an annoying time of it. Are you going to poison him? Or just extract it the old-fashioned way?" Either would be fun to watch. She looked at the fanged deer expectantly. At least there would be some sort of show.

Mephit didn't always like sharing the dungeon -- especially not with anyone aside from Pravus -- but Marie didn't bother her at all. Her sneering distaste for the filthy whippet could haven made her snicker ever so slightly under her breath.
The whippet made a small noise when Marie jabbed him, his body language showing something between defiance and terror. Mephit wasn't certain how 'hardy' he'd be, she had plenty of concoctions that would stop him from bleeding out too fast... and would give him brief restarts if he started to pass out on her. "I'll keep an eye on his bleeding," Mephit smirked so that her terrifying fangs flashed just right in the whippet's vision. "he won't be dying easily, even if he is a bleeder."
The whippet's body tensed even more sharply as he listened to the girls' conversation. It did not bode well for him, and he knew it. Still his muzzle remained tightly shut, terrified but defiant.
Turning to the dog, Mephit sneered and started by bringing down one firm hoof onto his fragile paw-foot. "You are an enemy to the Court of Hearts, you have poisoned a King of the Court, what caused you to do this?" As she waited for an answer, she glanced down at Marie. "I say we start with physical persuasion, and work our way to poisons." Or just mix them at Mephit's will.

The whippet's fear was tangible and it brought back memories for Marie of the old days, the ones she loved and missed and dreamed about. Her Serafino had been so very good at driving people to fear. Even when he was subjected to the emotion himself, it had never been as disgusting an emotion as it was on the faces of others.
Looking up at the deer, the human girl's bright yellow eyes gleamed and she smirked slightly. "Yes, that sounds fine. We need to get answers out of him one way or the other and the poisons might dull the pain. He should be concentrating on all of it when it happens, not feeling fire in his veins or sluggish or something like that. He needs to feel it. He deserves to feel it, if he's down here."
Oh yes, the girl was a bloodthirsty one. She'd egged her summoner on from the sidelines more than once. She simply adored violence, the feeling of her metal body cleaving through someone's flesh. Teeth bared, she grinned in an unpleasant little human expression.
((*headtilt* We can probably skip ahead to after they're "done"? Or to another scene between them?))

[skips ahead<3]
It was an oddly cold morning.
Mephit simply hated mornings like these, where she just couldn't seem to get started and even the prospect of toying with her prisoners didn't seem all that appealing. The doe glared balefully at the cells before her, but even the warmth that torture provided was useless if she couldn't seem to get herself going.
Blast it all!
There was no use staying in the blasted cold dungeons if all she was going to do was freeze! Mephit grumbled again and stormed out of the dungeons, making her way out into the morning sun. It was still cold here, but there was a considerable benefit of having sunlight versus being in the dark underground. The doe shivered, rubbing her arm slightly before stalking her way out to the sunning stone Marie had pointed her toward.
Now seemed like the perfect time to put a little sun and warmth to good use.
Once there, Mephit glanced around to verify she was alone, and then flopped miserably down onto the stone. Mephit felt the warmth the moment she slumped onto the stone and welcomed it entirely. That was more like it.

It had been a little while since Marie last interacted with anyone in a friendly fashion. She hadn't spoken with Mephitisia in two seasons and she'd had occasional grudging lunches with Bernard, more out of a mutual loneliness and desire for memories than any true fondness for one another. Well, maybe he was fond of her, but she thought he was a stuffy old git who'd stolen far too much of her summoner's time, never mind the fact that she knew and recognized all the help he'd been to Serafino over the years.
She was in a bit of a mopey mood and the cold settled over the castle didn't help. Late autumn wasn't as brutal as true winter, but it was still unpleasant for anyone with reptile in their blood.
Taking her animal form, she slunk her way through the palace halls, ignoring everyone and everything in favor of reaching one of her favorite places for some sunning. When she arrived, however, she could see that it was already occupied. All set to bite whoever had taken her spot, she paused when she got closer and realized who it was.
...oh. The woman she'd actually recommended it to. Huh. That was alright, then. "I told you it was good."

Smooth ears swept forward when an unannounced voice caught her attention.
Mephit didn't like being snuck up on and had to do everything in her power to keep from jumping up when she recognized the voice that had spoken. Marie? The swiveled ears remained perked and forward and slowly eyes opened to complete the picture of idle awareness. The comments, when properly filtered, also managed to creep a half-smirk onto her features.
"You were quite right. It is a very good rock." That would be the most of 'pleasure' that anyone would be getting out of Mephit. Slowly, though, her ears settled back into their normal posture and the serpentine deer shifted. "I can share."
She wouldn't be the one to deny a reptile a sunning stone, especially not one more fully serpentine than herself, but she also had no intention of relenting her own warmth, even to a friend. Mephit always came first.

"You'd better," Marie agreed with a more cheerful note to her voice, actually managing a small smile at that. The woman had complimented her choice and called her right in the same sentence. Win. "After all. It's a very good rock."
She half-climbed and half-slithered up the more daunting side of the rock, settling herself on the side that Mephit had cleared for her. The rock was big enough for two people easily, though any more than that would see a bit of crowding and discomfort. She was smaller than an adult, though, so no squishing for either of them. Taking advantage of her side, she curled in a shallow indentation left by years of long use and sighed, the sound coming out happy. "I love this stupid rock. 's nice and warm."
Bonding over a rock was a serious thing. At least, mutual rock appreciation - it meant something. There wasn't a sunning rock quite like this one anywhere else. It was perfect.

Mephit found herself smirking for a brief moment, amused by the demanding but cheerful note in the little Queen's voice. Marie was rather tolerable, actually, enough so that Mephit didn't even mind when the little half-breed sat next to her or almost touched her.
Physical touch was often a disgusting thing, but Marie was worthy of it. Luckily the rock also had more room than Mephit had expected... good for sharing with tiny little Queens. Bonding over a rock was definitely a very important thing.
The doe stretched her lean limbs briefly before returning to her comfortably snug position, ears remaining forward. "It is very nice and warm," Mephit agreed. "I'm utterly glad it was here this morning, I am not fond of such cold days." Mephit was entirely certain that her morning would have been as miserable as the majority of mornings that had wound up like this one in the past. Thank the suits that she had met Marie and discovered this place.

”Cold has always been a problem for me,” Marie agreed, opening one eye to regard the woman, pupil slitted and small. ”It’s the reptile, of course. I mean, cold blood. It’s so annoying sometimes. Snake, lizard, it doesn’t matter. Pain in the butt.”
She could identify her words as nothing but idle chatter, but she didn’t really care. Chattering felt weird without her summoner. She couldn’t chatter with anybody. Being able to with this odd woman felt... nice. Her words didn’t have to mean anything, and she didn’t care whether the deer-snake got bored or not. She didn’t care if anyone got bored with her. She was already bored with them.
Except Mephit wasn’t so easy to get bored of, apparently. Their time in the dungeon had shown the weapon another side of her that wasn’t readily obvious, something she obviously kept to herself except when she was working. Marie had a healthy respect for someone who knew how to use pain to their advantage. Her Fino had seen to that.
”What did you really think of my Queen?” she asked after a moment's silence.

Mephit found herself nodding absently as she basked on the sunny rock. There was a horrible sort of amusement in this reptilian blood, it was unlike anything she had any memory of and for all that she'd grown fond of it's little quirks -- the eyes, especially -- she hadn't really taken to this lack of self-heating blood.
Apparently, though, reptiles weren't particularly fond of it either. Mephit couldn't disagree with that complaint.
"Yes, it is very much the reptile..." She wasn't even fully reptile, she just had some of those strange side effects of Ophelia's genetic meddling. Severus, however... He would truly be pining for this rock right about now. Mephit chuckled lowly. "Pain in the butt? Yes, I think that's an apt description..." At least there was warm sun and warmer rocks... That made up for this irritation.
There was a brief lull in conversation where Marie fell into idle contemplation and where Mephit found herself blissfully soaking up warmth, as close to happy as she could currently come close to explaining.
The question caught her off guard but wasn't at all hard to answer. Fino was one of the few people she could say good things about... and actually mean them. "Serafino was an exceptional Queen, a person to be respected." The doe rolled her shoulders in a small shrug and slowly reopened her eyes to peer at Marie. "I don't like many people, but I liked him... I came here because of him." There was a hint of disappointment edging into her voice as she spoke those last words. She had briefly contemplated being his King, but he hadn't lived that long and now there was really no reason for her to obtain that rank.
