"I like...cheese and butter..." he said helpfully, peering around at the icebox. The pickings looked to be a little slim. Well, they would figure out some way to not starve to death. If worse came to worst, he could always eat upholstery or cannibalize someone, he supposed. Probably not his dad, though. Eating people who looked just like you would probably be too surreal an experience.
The sitting room would be a better place, really, to eat their cheese, so Zeki opted for that. He felt that if they were at a table, they would have nothing to do but stare at each other across it or stare pointedly at their food instead, and really, that was just eighteen different kinds of awkward.
He would help make grilled cheese but he had really never done much cooking before and didn't want to end up blowing his new dad's house sky-high.

"Oh good," Rocky said with a small note of joy as he bound over to the pantry to retrieve the bread. He glanced in it. Well, for whatever reason he had three kinds of bread, muffins and sugar cookies that Loreta had given him last week.
He pulled out the white bred and gathered the other supplies to start cooking. "You can watch if you want, I don't know what your Mom taught you or... what." He shrugged. "But after eating would you like to go shopping with me? Since I obviously have no food in the house."
And so Rocky went through the process of making several grilled cheeses, and stacking them up on a large plate for the pair of them. Once everything was said and done he grabbed an extra set of plates and directed his son (oh that was just so very weird to think about) towards the sitting room.
His furniture wasn't in the best condition, but at least people other than Rocky could sit on it. He had a rather droopy patched up sofa, a leather chair, and a glass coffee table. He carefully set the plate down and smiled at Zeke.

Zeki's eyes lit up when he saw the pile of sandwiches--he was a big eater, probably because he ran around all the time and his brain was working so hard on account of the fact that he was a Corvie and everything, and that all tended to speed up the metabolism. It took him moments to inhale the first one and begin the second.
"Shopping sounds great," he said, his mouth half-full of delicious melted cheese. He realized that this was probably impolite, and he didn't want his new dad to throw him out on the street for being an uncultured cretin (though he was sure that he would triumph in the face of adversity and find his way back to Mama!), so he finished chewing. His eyes widened at a sudden thought. "Can we get stuff so you can make me banana nut bread? Mama gave me that for a bedtime treat."

Rocky watched as the boy inhaled the sandwiches without hesitation. If the appearance wasn't enough, the appetite was an indication that they were at least partly related. The raccoon smiled cheerful at the suggestion.
"That sounds like a great idea. We'll have to get some extra ingredients though, since it's been a long time since I've baked something." He blushed under his fur a bit. The last time he had baked something it had been in his youth with his mother hovering over his shoulder. And that had ended with something catching on fire. This time he would have to be more careful.
"And there's no need to rush. If you eat too fast you're going to make yourself sick." Rocky added. "Oh... and I forgot drinks. I'll get us some water." The raccoon scurried back to the kitchen in search of glasses that weren't horribly chipped.

On the whole Zeki thought water was terribly boring--pure water, anyway, because he couldn't levitate it into bubbles. He'd had great fun back at the Court floating people's drinks right out of their glasses and then letting the bubble pop over their heads. Less fun afterwards was the part where he got yelled at.
It was a good method for testing water cleanliness, though. If he could levitate it, he didn't drink it.
He concentrated on the glass of water he had been given. No floaty bubbles. Fail. He gulped it down.
"Thanks," he said politely, and then, "So where are the stores around here? We probably need lots of stuff..." He didn't know exactly what went into banana nut bread--beyond the obvious conclusion of some combination of bananas, nuts, and some kind of bread--but he was sure his dad would know.

He returned with two glasses, offering the boy the larger one that wasn't chipped. The raccoon raised an eyebrow at the question. There were plenty of stores around, but of course most of them didn't look like stores, but there was the matter of getting fresh food.
"We can go to the market which is a little walk from here," Rocky said cheerfully. "And there's a couple of shops that are pretty close by too. We can also stop at a friend's of mine. She's a fantastic cook, and I'm sure she can tell me what I need to make a proper loaf of banana nut bread."
The raccoon was practically glowing with joy at the thought of all the things that could go right. His mind flickered briefly to a worried thought that had been lingering there since he opened the door. What if the Zeki didn't like him at all? He stuffed that thought away as soon as it popped up. This was no time for self doubt!

Water consumed, energy replenished to full status by food, Zeki all but hopped out of his seat. He had a vague sense that he wanted to keep doing things so he wouldn't have to think at all or be awkward around his superior-gene clone. It would be incredibly easy to just sit there and miss Mama, and he wasn't going to accomplish anything--be it getting hold of Mama somehow or getting used to the dad--if he just lay around moping all the time. Being proactive. That was the key. Didn't matter what you were doing as long as you were doing something.
So. Banana nut bread was the short term goal. (Long term goal: conquer the sky. But that could come after nutty goodness.)
"Then what are we waiting for?" he said impatiently. He grabbed the dad's hand and tugged him to the door.

(( OOC: Hope this is alright. <3 I'll edit it for you if it's not, of course. ))
Rocky was surprised at how fast his son (oh that word was so strange) was ready to go. "All I need to do is grab my money," he said as he let the boy lead him forward. "And then we can go to my friend's."
He hummed as he moved forward, guiding Zeki towards the door. On the wall next to the door was his money pouch, which he had conveniently left there since the last time he went out. Taking it off the hook he wrapped the small strap around his waste.
It was only a five minute walk to where they needed to go. The little bed and breakfast was a neat little building that stood out from the poorly maintained exteriors of the rest of the little part of Corvistowne. The owner was a rather disagreeable Torquehelm woman, but she was "friends" with Rocky, even if he had been screwed over by her more times than a person could count on fingers and toes.

(OOC: *thumbs up* It's all good!)
He was pretty happy to get a peek at the neighborhood, since this was probably where he was going to be staying for a while. Everything was run-down (except, weirdly, their destination) and nothing at all like the Court.
He felt bad about actually liking the dilapidation (it had a strange kind of charm; that might have been the Corvie blood talking) better than the well-manicured lawns he was used to. It seemed almost like betrayal. Mama must not have liked it very much, since she left it.
And his father's friend didn't really look all that hospitable or really even like someone who should be in a position where she dealt with other people on a regular basis, but as long as she had the goods and the know-how to make a delicious loaf of choice banana nut bread, she could be a giant alien troll with seven heads and a thirst for baby's blood for all he cared.
Except, well...baby's blood was a little creepy. Better let his father handle it.

Loreta was her usual enthusiastic self when she saw Rocky enter the building. Eyes rolling she walked out from behind the counter, her long skirt on for business hours. However as soon a she went past the counter she stopped in her tracks. There was very much a mini version of Rocky standing next to... Rocky. She opened her mouth before Rocky could explain, "Why exactly is there a tiny version of you running around?""I don't think I need to explain that Loreta, I was just wondering if you were willing to teach me how to make banana nut bread." Rocky said, a blush forming under his dark fur. "You? Bake? I'm shocked that you're not a virgin and you now you want to bake?" Loreta laughed. "Sure, I'll help you. Let me get a list of ingredients for you." The woman disappeared for a few minutes, her laughter was clearly audible through out the building. When she returned she handed the winged raccoon a small book. "Come back when you're done getting the ingredients." Rocky nodded. He paused for a moment as he watched Loreta retreat to the kitchen. "Uh, aren't you going to ask his name? Or at least wait for me to introduce him?" "Tell me if you don't lose him in the market," the woman said before disappearing completely out of sight. Rocky stared blankly at the empty space where Loreta had been. He shook his head and looked Zeki. "Let's leave the crazy woman and go to the market." He motioned towards the door. ((OOC: XD uh, sorry for them taking up so much conversation. ))
