For a second, Seth just stared at his son. Should he correct him? He was pretty sure that Jak would be more than willing to fill Nikolai in once more... Sometimes, the boy was rather strange. but then, he'd been involved in the raising of enough children to understand that this was perfectly normal and that given a little bit of time he'd almost certainly grow out of it. Besides, for now it was cute. Cute was good. Cute made the less cute behaviors of his other children that much more tolorable.
Sometimes it was hard cramming six children into the small apartment. He was glad when everything worked out.
Cake balanced on one hand, he listened absently to the yammering of Jak as he walked into the kitchen. He wasn't surprised to see that both boys had followed him into the room. "All the ones that are part-bat, anyway. Tell her I said hi back. When do I get to meet her?[/b]" he said absently as he opened the cake. Well. What was left of it. Most of it was a colorful smear on part of the box that held it. There was some that was salvageable, to be sure, and so he pulled down dishes and loaded scoops of cake into each. "There you go, guys.[/b]" There really wasn't a lot of cake in the bowls... Seth stared at it thoughtfully.
"You know, if you want some more, I think I've still got some brownies...[/b]"

When the boy seemed confused by what to call him he replied with something akin to a chirpy squawk. "I am Nik!" Grinning at the boy as if it was the best time he had had in a while he then turned his attention towards his Daddy.
Standing to once side of the man he placed his hands, well fingertips on the counter and tried to pull himself up high enough to see what his daddy was doing. After a few unsuccessful hops he gave up with a slight pout.
As Antonio . . . no that was not right . . . what was it that his Daddy had called the stranger? J . . . Tossing the question around in his mind he suddenly recalled it. Jak or Jack. Both sounded right. Anyway, when J-something reached for his wings he almost tucked them tight to his body. It was the quick reminder to himself that the stranger was family that convinced him not to. After all, one was suppose to trust family and family did not mind differences.
"They make it a little difficult to fly," he nodded sagely, "but Daddy says I will get used to it then I can be as good a flier as him!"
Convinced he had impressed the stranger he gave another happy chirp when he was handed his bit of cake. This was not nearly big enough of cake, silly Daddy. Perking up at the mention of brownies, his other parents were always saying they were allowed to have them, he was quick to grab onto the idea. "Nik wants brownies!"

Jak gamboled along after Seth, his grin widening grotesquely at the acknowledgment of his sister, to the point where his lips looked as though they should be in serious pain. "Oh hey, that's just great! You can meet her aaaaaany time you want. All you gotta do is come an' visit or tell me when you want us over. She'd like you. She likes lots of things now. She had a change of heart a little while back." Or a removal. Eh, same difference. It had been the only thing he could do to make her happy.
A scoop of cake set in front of him made him dive like a professional hobo, grabbing at a chunk and cramming it in his mouth gleefully. This was the next best part of bringing cake, second only to Grampa's face when he saw that somebody remembered his birthday. Sharing! Yes! He wolfed his small section in seconds.
He licked at his fingers afterward, grimy and disgusting though they were. "I like flying sometimes," he agreed absently. Turning into something with wings was fun. The mention of more food made his eyes brighten eerily and his neck snapped straight up. "Ohhh yeah! I've seen those thing before! They're brown! And square. I really want some. Pleeeeease, Grampa?" He joined Nik in snatching the idea and running with it.

As Jak rambled on, Seth partially listened, but mostly tried to tune the insane little creature out. He'd found that when he listened too closely, it made his head hurt in ways he'd never quite imagined possible. But he caught enough, and he blinked when he turned back to the boy. "A change of heart? Well, that's good enough,[/b]" he said thoughtfully. From what he knew about the girl, she was quite the nutcase before. It seemed like a change would be good for her, but part of him wondered what could have inspired it. Huh. Weird.
He was glad that his son and grandson were getting along well enough. After all, it meant that he could pay less attention to trying to entertain both of them. He loved Nikolai, but the boy was rather high-energy and high-maintenence. Now that he thought about it, they both were.
As the pair yammered about anything that crossed their minds behind him, Seth set about cutting brownies and putting them into the bowls as well. As an afterthought, he scooped up some of the cake-and-frosting mush and piled it on top, making the brownies themselves more like the cake. Then he smiled, feeling rather pleased at himself for his ingenuity. "Alrighty, there you go, guys. Let's go sit down in the living room, yeah?[/b]"
After waiting for a reply, Seth took a beer out of the refrigerator and opened it, lounging in his favorite recliner. With any luck, the afternoon could stay fairly low-key, even with Jak's surprising arrival.
Of course, the more he thought about it, the more unlikely that seemed.
