Meir wasn't going out. Whatever. She would just have to walk outside alone. A poor defensive little girl. She snickered at the thought as she started skipping down the path. It was a quiet sort of night, with the full moon shining brightly. It was one of those nights where the creepy people slithered out of the darkness to run around and cause trouble. Or at the very least it was fun to think about it. Hopefully her brother wouldn't tell her parents she was out--and it wasn't as if he could follow her. Being blind had a lot of downsides for him, and that was one of them. Of course it was a wonderful advantage for her. She stopped in mid step when she caught sight of something yellow in the corner of her eye. Someone else was wandering this late? Slowly she moved after the figure, into an alley.

It had been a few hours since his grandmother had wandered off. At least she wasn't overbearing like Mom was most of the time. Being allowed to get away from everyone was fantastic. The being lost part wasn't fun though. At least he had brought his unicorn blades along, just in case. They were enough to make him take a sigh of relief as he padded down the street. He would eventually find his way to the inn they were staying at, or by some grace of a miracle Peaches would show up to scoop him up. Sometimes he had to wonder if she was really following him from afar. His ears flicked backwards when he heard something join him on the street. Well, it was faint enough it might not be that far away. Rather than risk it he quickened his pace and darted into the nearest alley way. Maybe he could catch them walking by?

Eurwen bounced around the corner, only to come face to face with a bright yellow cat. She hopped backwards, nearly falling onto her rump. She was able to make a decent recovery as she glanced over the feline.
What the heck sort of coloration was that? Was she a Yarrow-Tulgey mix? And what were those arm things coming out of her back? What was she holding with them?
She never was the most polite mouse. It might have been the part of her that was pure Highland pride with no censorship. Perhaps it skipped a few generations and managed to manifest itself in one little girl. Either way what came out of her mouth the next moment wasn't very eloquent.
"You're a weird looking cat, Miss. What are you a Tulgey-Yarrow?" The thought that that could possibly be an insult never crossed her mind. And she continued. "And why would someone as girly as you be in a dirty alley way?"

There was a moment of awkward silence as Xander stared at the mouse girl who spoke to him so bluntly. He glanced down at her rank and suit, only to grow more confused. He glanced up at her, his ears pinned back as he studied her strange coloration. White. Green. Blue. She had tiny swirls in her hair. It was a long shot but perhaps she was part Highlander? That would certainly give her an ego.
"For one thing, that's not how you greet someone you just met." Xander said flatly. "Secondly my region is none of your concern. Thirdly I'm a man. So stop jumping to conclusions."
He huffed, his fur was standing on end. Damn. How could she confuse him for a girl? The thought made him want to claw someone. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have a place to be." He went to move past her, only to find that she darted in front of him. His ears pulled back as she looked up at him with wide eyes. "What do you want Club?"

"So you're a pretty boy? I thought those were just a myth." She said drawing closer to him. She paid no attention to rank. Growing up in a family with cards higher than her never made her mind how she spoke. In fact it probably made her worse unless Mom and Dad were around.
"But I mean. Why is a pretty boy like you running around in the dead of night with weapons, huh? And what's up with the things coming out of your back? What are you holding?"
It never occurred to her that she might be annoying. Her whiskers twitched as she took a step back. He really was a curious person. What was with his markings anyway? He was such a strange shade of yellow and white mixed. And he was a high ranked card that wasn't related to her. So why not ask questions?
Too bad Radz wasn't here.

He stared blankly at the mouse. Was there something wrong with her? Or was she just being nosy to piss him off. The fur on the end of his tail stood on end as he continued to listen to her questions.
"I... don't have to answer any of your questions. Just go away. Or at the very least learn so manners. Where do you get the idea that it's all right to call a King of Hearts a mythical pretty boy after calling him a girl? Where do you get the idea it's smart to pester someone in an alley way?" He hissed slightly. She was really annoying.
He edged backwards. Maybe he could just push her out of the way? Or he should just turn around and scale the damn wall. At this point he just wanted to get away before she started talking at him again.

Eurwen didn't notice his discomfort. In fact what he said simply washed over her. With a smile she flopped back onto her haunches. The tip of her tail wiggled with excitement. "Just because you're a King of Hearts doesn't mean you're better than me. My siblings are all higher than me but that doesn't mean they're better."
She gave him a wicked grin. "So. What are you holding. It looks like a weird weapon. Can I see? Please? Pllllllease?" She made a grabby hand motion towards them. Even though she clearly couldn't reach them. Weapons. They were awesome things. She wanted some one day. Brass knuckles. Those would be pretty cool to have.
"Oh come on! Let me see! It's not like I'm dangerous or anything!" she bounced up as the cat moved away. He seemed to be getting pretty annoyed.

Suits.
Suits and the Highland hills.
Xander took a deep breath as he moved out of her reach repeatedly. Rank didn't matter. That was the dumbest thing he had heard in a long while.
All right. This was getting ridiculous.
"Look. If you try to get this weapon one more time, I swear to you Little Girl that I am going to make your life a living hell." He let out a sharp hiss and assumed a position in which he could attack from. Of course he was bluffing. Well. He kept telling himself that.
Why was she so bloody persistent? The mouse's hands brushed his mane, his hair standing up straight up.
Without truly realizing the consequences he lunged forward, aiming for whatever part of her happened to be in the way of his blade. It nicked her lightly, but that would be enough. Considering shortly afterward came a stream of hot fluid and noxious gas.
Unicorn Blade Swords: Power Boost: This weapon is now capable of shooting out a thick stream of hot fluid and a cloud of nitrous air. The gas is very similar to mustard gas and causes extreme sulfuric burns on the areas of the body it touches. The gas will normally seek out one or two limbs once set loose, while the fluid seeks out eyes, ears, or mouth; one of them, not all three. The fluid causes stinging, blindness if it hits the eyes (in one permanently, in the other for 24 hours), burns a hole in the tongue that may never heal (Dealer's discretion) if shot into the mouth, or melts off one ear and ruins the hearing in that ear. In all cases, the fluid causes an intense burning in the bloodstream for a full 30 minutes. Hearts and Kings and Queens, may be able to fight regardless of the pain, but they will be driven to weakness, dizzy spells, agonized stumbling, and fractured images and/or hallucinations. Cards ranked 2 and lower will be killed outright, dealer permission must be obtained if this weapon is to be used on Cards ranked thusly.

It was a surprise when the blade went whizzing by her, nicking her cheek. It was more of a surprise when something squirted from the weapons. She let out a loud and horrified squeak, which was probably one of the worst ideas she had had in a long while.
The fluid was in her mouth. The gas and was burning. Her chest felt like it was on fire, but the overwhelming pain in her mouth was worse. Her tongue. What was happening to her tongue?
The fluid was slowly burning a hole near the tip of her tongue. The gas that had touched her had eaten away at her chest, slightly marring the number, but mostly it was on the right side. Somehow it also managed to burn her right shoulder. The tip of her chin was burned, but ultimately she hardly noticed the pain they were causing.
The burning!
She let out a horrified scream as she collapsed on the ground. It felt like her blood was going to boil over and come out of her eyes. She wanted to tear her chest open to alleviate the pain, but all she could do was cry and wail in agony.
And she would be stuck in hell for thirty long minutes.

It was entirely too late to take back the action. And with the smell of flesh and fur burning, and the scream. He wanted to take it back. His eyes widened as he watched the girl scream in pain, crumpling to the ground.
Was a person supposed to suffer this much? Did these blades really have that much power? Why had he used them so recklessly? His stomach sank as he watched the girl writhe in pain. What was he supposed to do? He knew that she'd be in pain for a while. Was he supposed to stay?
No. He couldn't, could he? He had to leave.
Xander was slowly backing up. It wasn't because the girl was clawing at herself to try the stop the pain, either, it was because the noise could bring unwanted guests. He needed to get out of here before anyone accused him.
