Honker flopped where he was to look at the boy. He sniffed a few times and wiped away the tears the best he could. Okay. This would work. He could be sociable if Jovan would be willing to forgive him.
"Thank you," he said with a small smile and honk. His face brightened a bit as his tail tried it's best to wag. He just hoped that Lythero would remain silent. He couldn't quite deal with him right now. No more disappointment. No more crushing weight and paranoia of hurting people.
"I don't think I'll impose on you for very long. I should get going soon... I have to get to the Wood as soon as possible." Being polite. It was impossibly hard most of the time. No wonder it was easier bouncing around and being a ball of energy. He kept his head low when he asked the next question. "Why... do you have tentacles by the way?"

Jovan couldn't help but smile at the way Honker flopped and wagged his tail, even making that little honking sound. It was terribly endearing and made him think of Nico's vulnerability. The Jack smiled a little himself and leaned in to give the boy another pat.
"It's alright, Honker. You're very nice." Another affectionate pat and the canine mix returned to attempting to prepare a snack for them both. He listened as he worked, a little sad to hear Honker would still be leaving shortly even though he was happy to have his company (weird mouth thing or not). "The Wood?" He looked over his shoulder, brows furrowed. "Do you live there?" His markings definitely made sense if he did, but he didn't seem to have the typical "no outsiders" sort of personality...
"My tentacles? They're actually a mutation that most of my family has, something to do with an experiment my Grandma did on us when my mom was pregnant." He wiggled his tentacles again and gave them an appraising look. "Really, they're pretty useful so I don't mind."

Did he live there? Er. How should he respond? "No... I'm just looking for someone."
Honker smiled. He felt a little bit better. A lot better actually. And he was going to get food. His tail wagged as he inched forward, tilting his head as he listened to the explanation.
"Experimented on? I you Grandma a Corvie?" Honker's tail suddenly started wagging furiously. A sudden question popped into his head. What region was Jovan? He was white and yet he had rather strange markings... What region had markings like that? "Is that why you're mostly white too? Or are you albino?"
He his tail paused for a moment. "I'm sorry if I'm asking too many questions. I really just can't stop being curious. I guess if you wanted to ask about me... I could answer." He gave a small shrug. "I just think you're a bit more interesting than me."

"Well, if you're just looking for someone then be careful, yeah? Mum got attacked by a nasty JubJub out there, they eat brains... We've got one but only mom can go anywhere near it. Kind of scary, really."
The boy shook his head and return to preparing food. He didn't mind Honker's questions at all, in fact they were a little fun. Lots of people stared and gawked but very few people actually cared... Unless he mentioned that Grandma Ophelia made him this way and then everyone Oo-ed and Ahh-ed.
"Yeah, Grandma's a Corvie. Mum's a Corvie too, but she's all black -- opposite of me. I'm a Josiggy, we think. Like Papa Thal, but I'm an albino." He bobbed his head happily. "So I've got the Josiggy brindle but I'm white instead of green. You can tell more on Nico, even though he's got Corvie Neon too, cause his fur has more of the green tint."
Jovan's tail wagged gently and he tilted his head, peering back at Honker. "Hmm, no, you can keep asking me questions. I don't mind, and I don't really know what to ask... O! Well, what do you like to eat?" Jovan had just finished stuffing away the last of the groceries, so he was all ears for snack suggestions.

"I'll be careful," Honker said with a small nod. After all he had the big scary mouth poking out of his stomach. If that didn't work he could at least run. Hopefully. From what he heard from people the things inside the Wood were scary and this was just confirming things.
His head titled as he listened to what Jovan had to say. That was pretty awesome. He had a famous grandmother and he was albino partly because of it? And he had those cool tentacle things?
His tail wagged furiously. What food did he like? Well he liked a lot. "I like lots of things. Cheese is one of my favorite things. So... if you have anything with that on it that would be good! Or you could just feed me whatever, I'm not a very picky eater." He gave a wide grin as his tail continued to wag a mile a minute.

Jovan smiled over his shoulder. Good. He was glad Honker would be careful, otherwise Jov would have to worry. Once again his tail wagged cheerfully and he shifted through the cabinets with his tentacles.
"Cheese is easy, I've got lots of that. Could probably make grilled cheese or something simple." Locating the bread and cheese, he pulled out a slice and offered it to Honker with one tentacle while proceeding to pull out a pan and spatula with his other tentacles. He really enjoyed the chance to run them through vigorous tasks, it was good practice for when he was finally allowed to use a real weapon.
"So, hmm... Where do you live if you don't live in The Wood? Have you ever been there before?" Jovan had always been a little curious. Neither of his parents liked to talk about their trip there, and he didn't know anyone else who had ever been (nor did he have any intention of ever going himself).

"Grilled cheese! I haven't had a grilled cheese in forever!" Honker said cheerfully. His spirit had clearly recovered quickly from the soft blow of Lythero.
The jaw quivered with rage. The boy was to stupid to stay down. One day though.
Honker's ears perked at the questions. How could he properly answer them without lying too badly. Maybe if he just made things up it would work. "I used to live in Capital City with Mommy and Daddy. That was until I got myself into trouble. I still lived in the capital but... it wasn't very nice. I found my brother recently who helped me and said I should go where I want to go now that I... uh. Yeah. He convinced me that I should travel without being afraid anymore. So I don't live anywhere anymore."
It was the truth. Part of it anyway. His tail still thumped lightly with excitement.

Jovan liked seeing Honker perk up. He seemed far too sweet to be so down on his luck. The canine mix wagged his tail a little, hesitant but happy. So long as he could brighten his day a little than he'd at least done something right in this encounter.
"Great! We'll do grilled cheese then!"
Listening as Honker spoke, something seemed off but the boy didn't push it. Instead he focused on cooking the grilled cheese as he spoke over his shoulder. "I think your brother's right, you should be free to travel... if that's your decision." Jovan had to worry a little about the other boy's safety, even if he was a little older Jovan still had that big-brother 'protector' mentality. "Just make sure you look after yourself. You seem like a really nice person, I hate to find out something bad happened to you."
When the sandwiches were finished, he slipped them onto plates and placed them on the table for Honker and himself. "Dig in! And let me know how I did."

He seemed nice. Not fake nice like people who threw him food on the streets. He was actually nice. The dog mix shifted awkwardly as he waited patiently for the grilled cheese. Food. Food. Foooooood. He really couldn't help but wiggle with excitement.
And finally it was done. His tail was wagging furiously as he watched the other boy place the dish down in front of him. An excited honk escaped him before he devoured the sandwich in front of him.
He almost inhaled it he was so hungry. It had been so long since he had had proper food, but he couldn't go back. Lythero made sure of that. If only he had never bothered to fool around with that cloak...
He finished in no time. "Thank you very much! That was great! I haven't had a grilled cheese that good in a long time!"
