Ha. That was so very cute. Theofilus couldn't help but chuckle at the comment as he began to sweep up the hair. "Wait until you have food made by a real cook, you'll probably die from the happiness radiating off of you."
He collected the hair in a pile on the floor, grabbed the dust pan and scooped it into trash. Now, he just needed to get all the hair off of the chair. Which, was a bit of a challenge. Brightly colored hairs covering the dark blue chair were quite a sight as Theofilus struggled with the lint brush and various other cleaning implements. After the epic battle where hair ended up clinging to his shirt anyway he finally managed to get most of it in the proper trash can.
And apparently Neil was almost completely done with all the sandwiches. Either he was eating faster than he should, or Theofilus had taken longer than he thought. Either way he shrugged. "Just to let you know, I'll be taking you to a doctor before you start your job."

Neil grinned a Theofilus during his hungry scarfing, too busy devouring the sandwich to respond. He was quite certain his new friend was right but didn't entirely want to stop eating in order to respond. Not to mention that the Epic Battle of the Hair War was quite entertaining to watch.
His first sandwich was gulped down far faster than it ought to have been, but the second he took his time with; savoring every bite. A real cook would be nice, but these sandwiches were gourmet enough for the starving.
Once Theo was done, Neil had just enough time to pop the last bite into his mouth and begin licking his fingers clean when he heard 'doctor' and his body bunched up a little. If anything could be said he was most definitely your average boy in his dislike of doctors. He wrinkled his nose a little but nodded his head obediently.
"Okay," he said with a sigh. "We're...not going now are we?"

"No, not quite yet," Theofilus said grinning. "I still need to eat and finish my tea. Don't worry, the doctor won't be that bad, I promise." He knew how much most people hated doctors, and he wasn't an exception to the rule. However, this was the same doctor he had taken Eilwyn to all those years ago, and everything had gone smoothly then, so why not now.
He went to put the broom and other cleaning supplies away before going back into the kitchen. He made another set of sandwiches, one for himself this time, and another for Neil. He came back and handed a plate to the boy.
The sparrow took a seat in the now clean chair and began to nibble on his sandwich. He never had a big appetite and this just made it a bit more apparent. Either way, he nonchalantly picked up on his tea to sip on it. "If there's anything else you want, just let me know."

Neil's lean body unclenched once Theofilus announced that they weren't going to the doctor right away and that it wouldn't be bad. Theo hadn't lied to him yet and Neil didn't believe he would, so he trusted him without hesitation. "Alright."
He perked up cutely once Theo left the room but instantly sunk back onto the couch once Theo returned with yet another sandwich for him. A happy noise escaped him and his tail thumped heavily as he took a few eager bites... only to pause and look up at Theofilus. Had only gotten that one? ...Perhaps he should share? He stared heavily at his bitten sandwich before looking up again.
"Have you had enough to eat, Theofilus? You've been so g-generous and you haven't eaten much..."
He held up his sandwich awkwardly, wanting to offer it and yet unquestionably uncertain as to whether or not it was proper to offer a man such as Theo his bitten sandwich. It wasn't uncommon to share food he'd half-eaten with his fellow street urchins but Theofilus was far from a street urchin.

Theofilus couldn't help but laugh a bit. "Oh don't worry about me, I'm fine. I don't need as much food as you at any rate. You can have that sandwich all to yourself."
It was like having a kid again. Except this one was an adult for the most part. He probably had no formal education, and if he did it wouldn't be past the first few years, would it now? The education would have to wait until after he was properly cleaned up and they were back at the palace. Then he would figure something out. It couldn't be that complicated to try and teach him. There had to be plenty of talented tutors out there.
He took his time finishing his sandwich and pouring himself another cup of tea. Theofilus wasn't going to rush anything. "So besides Doctors, is there anything else you don't like, Neil?"

Neil smiled adorably, looking halfway between awkward and pleased. He'd offered it to Theo, that was the least he could do, and Theo had been kind enough to let him keep it! Everything about Theo was so kind and grand, Neil was happy to just be eating in the room with someone who was handsome and nice and who was not trying to put his hands in places they didn't belong.
Quietly he devoured his sandwich, pausing only once the Selkie spoke up.
Things he didn't like? "I don't dislike much...but, people with needles and things. Or, mean and loud people." He scrunched up his nose adorably and fidgeted with his tail absently. "They're worse than doctors and needles. Mean doctors..that's the worst though..."
During his time on the streets Neil had met a great deal of mean and loud people. From teenage boys that had enjoyed bullying him to the righteously angry vendors that had caught him stealing.

Theofilus gave the boy a small smile. He was still a boy, he couldn't be much older than eighteen or nineteen. The sparrow had gone through how many children, and was now a grandparent? Oh gee, he was getting old. That didn't feel all that spectacular did it?
"There aren't that many loud and mean people where I work, as far as I know. If anyone is loud or mean to you, you can come and tell me and I'll take care of it. Does that sound like a good plan?" He picked up his tea cup and drained it completely after he finished speaking. Another one was poured to replace it, and he still had a bit of his sandwich to eat.
Once he was finished with both things he crossed his legs and looked at the brightly colored boy. The sparrow would wait a bit longer to take him to the doctor, he couldn't imagine they would be happy to have a complicated walk in.

Is Neil was a cat, he would've been purring, and if he'd let go of his tail, it would've been wagging, but either way he was absolutely brimming with content and happiness. Everything was so much nicer. His hair didn't feel tangled and heavy now that the knots were out, it was light and easy, and his fur wasn't matted and dirty anymore. Even he could see that he was pretty and it made his beaming all the greater.
Such a change. Had it only been that morning that he had been wandering the streets and eating stale bread? It really didn't feel like it anymore. "I like that plan. Thank you."
While Theo finished his tea and his sandwich, Neil found his thoughts wandering down an inadvertently darker path. What if it wasn't real? How many homeless people found loving families over night? Well, of course, he hadn't found a loving family...just a nice man that offered him work. It was sort of close enough. He shook his head, momentarily delighting in the lightness of his mane, and then looked up at Theo. "Do you have a family, Theofilus?"

Theofilus raised an eyebrow. Oh yes he had a family. Extended or otherwise. "Yes, a rather large one. Some of it is extended family, but it's family none the less. You'll have plenty of chances to meet them, and I will eventually introduce you when I have the chance."
The sparrow sighed. Maybe they should get going to the doctor? It was probably best to get it out of the way, but even Theofilus couldn't say he enjoyed the prospect of seeing a doctor. "How about, on the walk to the doctor's office I'll tell you all about them, and there's quite a bit to tell you."
He stood up and gathered his things, getting properly dressed once again. He could just pop into his biped form and save himself the trouble, but he did enjoy the process of putting clothing on. Getting dressed up was just a very fun concept for some reason, even if the man barely owned anything beyond what he was wearing.
He smiled as he went to leave a note in the kitchen for anyone who was looking for him. The sparrow returned with a smile. "Ready to go?"
