Theofilus couldn't help but chuckle. This was just too adorable for words. He did manage to keep his composure though. The sparrow gave Calia a kiss on the cheek. "Feel free to fill Calia in on my behavior while I go and get her something to drink." He said before departing.
This was turning out to be a fantastic day. It had started out so very depressing and yet everything now was working out fantastically. He couldn't help but hum to himself as he made his way to kitchen. He spent a few minutes sorting through the various teas they had. He had managed to finish up an entire pot by himself through the course of the day. He knew that was a dangerous amount of caffeine for him if he wanted to sleep the night, but at the moment he could careless.
Another pot was on the stove for him and Calia to share. Hopefully she wouldn't mind this blend. If she did he could always find another drink in the icebox. They were home after all.

There was something about this woman, Calia, that instantly put Neil at ease. Woman usually unnerved him, reminding him of exactly why he'd wound up in this situation. Living on the streets, stealing for food.. A mess when he should have been a beautiful musician. Calia, on the other paw, was different in so many ways. Perhaps it was the motherly aura around her, that bespoke of such ease. Not that Neil would have ever recognized such a thing, even if it had come along and bit him on the tail. Whatever it was, though, it was reassuring and it had him smiling rather easily without any of the nerves that usually fluttered up when he met new people -- especially women.
"And you, Miss Calia." His tail thumped against the chair and he grinned lightly up at Theo when the male spoke. They seemed so easy around each other... Were they lovers? When Theo slipped out of the room, Neil turned back to Calia and laughed a little. "Yes, ma'am. He sent someone out not too long ago to pick up food. He's been wonderfully kind, nicer than I could have ever dreamed anyone would be to me." He blushed a little, dipping his head. "I'm very thankful."

Calia gave Theofilus a brief smile before he left the room, her eyes shining delightedly. She still had no idea quite what was going on, but got the impression that she would know soon enough.
She didn't need to know, of course. When it came to bringing people home, especially young people, Calia trusted Theofilus implicitly. If he felt someone needed a home, then they most likely did.
The human crossed her legs beneath her dress, leaning forward slightly and wrapping her arms around her knee. Her head tilted to the side slightly as she listened to the young man, the avian habit shining through even in her human form. She laughed softly as the man finished, shaking her head. "He is a very kind man,[/b]" she said in agreement, then leaned forward almost conspiratorily. "Don't let him know I told you this, but he's also wonderfully truthful in his opinions of people. If he was kind to you, it was because you deserved every little bit. I've only known you for a moment and I already feel as if you do.[/b]"
She gave the young man another bright smile. There was something sad in him, she could see, and she felt the need to make him feel comfortable. "How is it that the pair of you met?[/b]" she asked, brushing a strand of maroon hair from her face.

By the time to tea was finished, Theofilus came in at the tail end of the conversation. He remained silent, since the question was obviously for Neil. He set Calia's tea on the coffee table, along with another juice for Neil.
He took a seat in his favorite chair, picking up his tea cup and sipping from it carefully. Drinking tea straight was something that the sparrow did often, but he wasn't entirely sure this blend was meant for that. Looking slightly disappointed at his tea cup he set it down on the tray and proceeded to several lumps of sugar into it.
Of course he didn't have time to stir the sugar in. There was yet another knock on the door. The sparrow raised his eyebrows. "I'll get that," he said before hurrying out of the room. He honestly didn't expect anyone else tonight. And the food shouldn't have been done this quickly?
To his surprise, it was indeed the food. He accepted the bags and thanked the servant for all his good work. Then he went straight to the kitchen so he could put the food on proper dishes.

Neil liked her already. She was wonderfully nice. Everything about her was sweet and soft and she knew just how to make you feel rather warm and well-liked. His tail waved carefully from side to side, an elegant little fan behind him.
And to know that Theofilus hadn't taken him in simply out of pity, that was even better.
The dainty fox beamed happily... until she mentioned how they met. How was he supposed to explain himself to this pretty woman? He'd been found in a box on the street? Slowly his tail sank down, curling around his waist so that he could play with the fluffy tip.
Neil remained silent as the Queen first entered the room, thanking him softly for the juice before beginning to sip lightly at it. After a few sips, he focused back on Calia and managed a meek little smile.
He had thought of a dozen different ways to explain his situation, but all in all he could think of none that properly explained everything without mentioning his previous living situation. "Mister Theofilus came upon me this morning when I was singing in the market," The fox offered a tremulous smile and nervously stroked his tail. "and he offered me a job singing in the Courts, with a real home and everything... he even gave me a proper name. It's been wonderful."

Calia smiled warmly at Theofilus when he returned, settling herself in for what she hoped to be a nice long chat between them and their newest family member. He seemed like a complete sweetheart, and was sure that it was a very good thing that the Queen had found him and picked him off the streets.
When his expression fell, however, her own faltered slightly. She just hoped the boy wasn't familiar with human expressions, she didn't want to make him feel any more uncomfortable than she'd already inadvertantly managed to do. Instead, she decided not to press the matter any further than she'd already done, and offered Neil a radiant smile, a sparkle of interest in her blue eyes. "Theofilus is a wonderful man, and I'm so glad he found you.[/b]"
Her head inclined slightly to the side, a hint of curiosity on her face. "You sing?[/b]" she asked, leaning forward. It would make sense for the boy to have at least some musical inclinations, with his Villa blood, but the fact that he was a singer delighted her.
((Sorry for the crappy post ; ; ))

Theofilus spent a while in the kitchen so the pair could converse and so he could actually find the proper serving dishes. Overall it took quite a bit of time, even without him taking his sweet time.
When everything was dished out the sparrow stared at all the plates. He could try to balance them all or bring them out a few at a time. He bit his lip, staring at all the food for a while. Why had he ordered so much in the first place?
Right, the rest of the family. It was a force of habit. He sighed as he shifted to his bipedal form, it would be a bit easier to balance everything, for whatever reason. With plates and all the proper utensils he went back to join the others, coming in on part of the conversation.
The only reason Theofilus had found the boy was because of his voice. Once all the plates had been place on the table he shifted back to his human form, it was just a bit more comfortable in this situation. He returned to his seat next to Calia. He'd finally put his two cents in, "He has an amazing voice."

Neil was, luckily and unluckily, a little bit on the horrendous side when it came to reading Human faces. Sometimes he caught little obvious things, but other times he didn't. They were so subtle and you couldn't tell which way their ears were facing or anything...
Birds were just as hard to read for much the same reason and their beaks made picking up on smiles and frowns all that much harder. Guh!
On the bright side, of course, he was nearly pitch perfect and could almost always pick out the proper tones in peoples voices if he managed to get lost on the expression.
"Oh I am too! I couldn't have ever hoped for something like this... never..." His heart thumped excitedly and his tail began to wag and then -- to his even greater pleasure -- Theo had returned with food and all those little canine gestures of joy doubled. "Thank you, Theofilius." More tail wags and a cheerfully affectionate smile as the topic wove down toward singing. He hadn't always thought of his voice as amazing, but...
"I do love to sing." He gave a humble little smile to both of the humans present, claiming the plate set near him in order to keep from fidgeting with his tail again. The scrawny little canine was definitely undernourished and his daily meals were absolutely on the lacking side. Eating well twice in one day was so rare, but he wasn't complaining. Especially not as he scarfed down a few fork fulls. "You're the best~" he chimed out once he'd swallowed his food down and, after a moment's thought, he pressed on a bit more humbly. "I could sing for you both after we eat?"

When Theofilus spoke, Calia looked at him and nodded, brushing a strand of hair back behind her ear when it tumbled forward. She looked back at the young man and gave him a glowing smile, eyes closing happily at his obvious joy. She loved Theofilus. Today was just another example of why. He cared, so deeply, about everyone he met... And he was willing to give them a chance, something that most people would never do. She couldn't believe that the poor, sweet canine had just been wandering in the streets when Theofilus had found him...
The boy was a wonder. He deserved kindness, that much was sure, and Calia was glad that the sparrow had brought him in. She'd see to it that he put some meat on his bones and felt accepted in his new family.
When the food was placed in front of her she also began to eat. It wasn't until after the first bite that she realized she was famished - she hadn't had a bite since morning, at least! When Neil paused in his own ravenous attack on his meal (something that warmed her heart to see), she put her plate down, tilting her head to the side thoughtfully.
"Oh! What a wonderful idea![/b]" she smiled contentedly. "If it wouldn't be too much trouble, I would love that very much.[/b]" Somewhere in the back of her mind, she wondered if Asha was home. The Ace would almost certainly love to hear her newest family member sing... She shrugged it off. She'd let it rest for now, until she was sure it would be wise to introduce the boy to her daughter.

"Of course you can sing after we eat. Perhaps you'd like to meet our daughter afterward as well? I'm sure she'll be home soon, one of her brothers was taking her out for something." He smiled at the thought of Asha going out shopping with Ez. He had made sure to dress her up, covering her rank among other things. Either way they were having a day out. There could be no harm in introducing the girl to such a sweet boy, or so he hoped.
Neil seemed entirely too kindhearted to reject a person like Asha. At the very least her rank would be covered coming through the door...
"Though, enough talk, we should probably eat before the food gets cold." Theofilus smiled. The sparrow picked up a fork and one of the dishes filled with food. He offered it to Calia before taking a fork full for himself.
