Ophelia showered longer than she probably should have, basking in the refreshing chill of the cold water as it cleared her head of sleep and stress. When at last she pulled herself out of the water, Ophelia continued to slowly take her time with the morning. There was no rush to get to Silvanus, none at all. Especially not when she'd only be returning to the angst of the previous evening.
Stepping out of the bathroom, Ophelia was caught off guard by the scent of fresh bread baking lightly from the kitchen.
...What?
The doe's ears perked forward slightly and she moved slowly into the kitchen, leaning against the doorway to peer in at Silvanus as he worked on breakfast. Well...that was unexpected.
"What brew do you have on?" She murmured lightly, pushing herself away from the door to stroll smoothly into the kitchen.
This wasn't about to fix all of the tension between them, but it was possibly a step in the right direction. If nothing else, he'd stayed and that was worth a considerable amount. If he remembered the right tea to put on for Ophelia's morning cup, then he'd be even better off.

The sweet bread mix had just been finished when he heard the sound of the water shut off in the other room. He quickly put it into a cake pan before settling it to be cooked. The smell was already hitting the air within a couple mins, and he found himself smiling in contentment. Baking always seemed to make Silvanus feel much much better. He had almost forgotten about all the troubles of the night before. Instead of dwelling on it, he went to the tea cabinet, and looked around at the different brews. She had quite a few. If she could only remember what she liked. All teas were pretty good in his book, he didn't really have much of a favorite.
He turned around when he heard the sound of her voice at the doorway. It was one of the hallmark images of her in his mind. For as long as he could remember, things always seemed to start with her in the doorway, for better or for worse. It was an image repeatedly burned into his mind, one that filled him both with fear, and with a great amount of happiness. His smile wiggled a bit, as he couldn't decide which emotion to portray right now. He knew she would still be upset, as was he...and he didn't know if a smile would offend. "Nothing just yet....I couldn't remember which was your favorite...It's...been a while..." the last part was said as he itched the back of his neck nervously.

Xylia studied him for a moment. Watching the shifting of his features and the internal conflict over his response to her. He was weighing his actions carefully -- it was very much the smart thing to do.
"A green tea would be good for breakfast." She clarified quietly, drawing closer. "Dragonwell or Casablanca Twist, I'd say." Casablanca Twist was her favorite, a light and minty flavor that was beautifully refreshing. She couldn't help but test him ever so slightly, to see if the name struck any familiar chords.
As she spoke, allowing him to choose the tea they had, Ophelia's eyes crazed the sweet bread and took in the scent once more. He really was trying, wasn't he? If only forgiveness really could be bought through breakfast. A small sigh escaped her and finally Ophelia forced a smile. She wasn't against holding grudges, but she didn't want to hold one on Silvanus just then.
Maybe later though.., she would just have to see.
"Thank you for making breakfast, Silv."

He couldn't look at her any longer, her staring starting to make him nervous. Instead, he busied himself choosing between the two teas she suggested. He was rather curious about them both. He raised his nose slightly to sniff the sweet bread. It was going to be really sweet. Something light might be nice coupled with it. He took the two down off the shelf and opened them to sniff the leaves and other herbs. From sniffing them, he thought Casablanca Twist seemed the lighter of the two. He couldn't remember that it was Ophelia's favorite, he just happened to pick the right one. He quickly set to brewing it, continueing to give his back to the female deer for as long as he could. He didn't know how he was going to be able to face her.
But he couldn't ignore her any longer. He turned around and...gave a very slight smile. "It was the very least I could do..." he said as he scratched the back of his neck. He couldn't stop looking at Ophelia, but he wasn't sure what to say...what to do. After a while he couldn't take the awkwardness of the moment anymore, and he pretended to busy himself putting things away and washing the dishes. He wished there was something more he could say...more he could do...but he knew there really wasn't anything he could do. At least...not at the moment...
"How are the kids?" he asked quietly...feeling like...maybe this wasn't the best subject to bring up...but still feeling like he should ask anyway. He burried his head in washing the dishes, hoping she wasn't about to kill him were he stood.

Ophelia stayed back for the time being, watching Silvanus work. He speculated over the teas for some time and Ophelia wondered if he remembered at all...or if the boy just had a great deal more luck than it would appear...
She gave him the benefit of the doubt.
"Good choice."
When at last he turned to face her again, Ophelia made her way further into the kitchen and leaned up against the counter instead. And then he mentioned the kids. She tensed a little before easing up once more and smiling again.
"They've all got their own agenda... but they're all doing alright for themselves. Severus has been in the Courts for quite some time, Mephit joined him not long ago. Don't know if they actually work with each other, neither feel the need to keep in contact." The serpentine doe shrugged her shoulders slightly. "Xylia's had a rather...odd encounter with an enchanted item." She left out the rather unnerving details of her ventures into The Wood shortly after... "and Tumnus is ([cough] What is Tumnus up to? ...I'll edit this once I know. XD). I'm sure Xylia would love to get in touch with you again."
It wasn't exactly a secret that Tumnus didn't like his father and, well, Severus and Mephit were both highly independent, neither would come running to speak to their absent father.

Luckily he couldn't see her tense as he washed the last bit of dishes. It probably would have made him more anxious, and he really didn't need that to happen. When he got anxious he did stupid things. When he did finally turn around, she had a smile on her face, and that brought one to his own. Small, but still there. He nodded as she told him about each of the children in turn. He smiled a bit at the mention of Severus being in the courts. He had always pinned him for doing something like that, he had always been such a responcible young thing. Mephit was a bit of a suprise...but he supposed she had grown close enough to her brother that they might have bonded, and found their own place together in the courts. "I'm sure they do...they were fond of eachother...or well...you know...they got along at the very least." he was of course talking about their rather strange and distant personalities.
"I would like to see Xylia again...It has been...to long..." he stopped himself from saying more, looking down at the ground for a bit before lifting his head to the serpentine does gaze again, "What kind of Odd Encounter? She is...alright I assume?" the last sentence was spoken with a certain kind of hope. Obviously she was alive...but well...what had changed about her? Was she alright, didn't seem like the right thing to ask.

Ophelia chuckled slightly at the thought. They did get along...if only because they shared an equal disinterest in the world around them. She was proud of them both, though. Even if she didn't approve of the Court systems, at least they were out making names for themselves. Not that her other children weren't. They were all established young personalities, but none quite so...viciously ambitious as those two. "I suppose they do, don't they?"Silvanus's sudden concern was both reassuring and a bit bothersome. She wasn't entirely sure if now was the best time to get wrapped up in this... but, well, she supposed sooner was better than later. "Long story short, Xylia found a pair of enchanted gauntlets and, being the scientific mind she is, she decided to test the shop keeper's warning to not wear them at night." The doe shook her head, sighing heavily. The reaction to her disobedience had been shocking to all parties involved. "It apparently afflicted her with complete melanism... She's pure black now and... and, she's a Spade, Silv. I don't mind, of course -- she's my girl and I love her regardless of rank or appearance --, but Solo says she was real torn up about it." And there was so much more to be said.... "I could send for her, if you'd like?" As Ophelia spoke, Vilya abruptly popped into their air beside his summoner's head and whistled softly, ready to take a message.

He appreciated Ophelia's straight to the facts attitude. He was far to dramatic a person, and he tended to let things become long winded, but he didn't want something like that in this moment. He just wanted to hear his daughter was ok. Which she seemed to be. Poor dear, she had always been such a curious thing, something that Silvanus had encouraged from time to time. Curiousity lead to good things, at least he liked to believe...but he supposed it was not always the case.
"A spade? She's a spade now? How in the world....How could that happen?" he asked...completely shocked by the news. "I don't mean to sound...upset...but...I thought something like that was physically impossible...not even with your genetic studies did I ever imagine something like that being solved..." he scratched the back of his neck. A part of his religious past bothered the back of his mind, telling him those gauntlets were no good...and to dispose of them...but he couldn't imagine doing that to Xylia...obviously she was attached to them in some sort of way now. It would be like someone taking away his antler charm because they knew the memory of his mother upset him sometimes. "That's....some magic...." he said in a bit of awe. He felt sorry for his daughter...so tramatized by the event. My...she must look quite different now...
He looked at the tove that hovered next to Ophelia a bit, wondering if seeing her would actually be a good idea...Or if it would just...make things difficult. But no...she was his daughter...and if he was going to die...he wanted to at least see one of the children he had brought into this world before he left it forever. He nodded a bit, before turning to the oven. The sweet bread should be about done by now. "Yes...she can join us for breakfast..."

Ophelia watched Silvanus steadily, following the ups and downs that plagued his expression. Mostly downs. It was to be expected.
"I'm not entirely sure how it works myself. It appears irreversible as well, taking the gauntlets off has done nothing." Scientific minds work alike, so it was no surprise that the girls had exchanged 'notes' on more than one occasion. "The change from Heart to Spade wasn't genetic by any means... but the magic was considerably formidable. To be able to change her so completely... and it's given her a few little additional abilities that I can't tell are good or bad."
In fact, Xylia tended to remind her more and more of those fabled Jokers....
Nevertheless the woman shook her head and turned to Vilya, stating clearly: "For Xylia. Your father is here, join us for breakfast?" The Tove whistled happily, mimicking the message in Ophelia's exact tone to be sure he had it correct. Ophelia smiled and simply nodded and poof, Vilya was gone.
"Whatever you do, though... Please don't treat her too... differently. I think she's come to terms with it, but your family should never alienate you."
It only took a few minutes after his initial appearance for Vilya to return and, proud of a job well done, he curled up around Ophelia's shoulders as he mimicked: "Good timing, I'm in town. Cya soon." For Silvanus, the tone would be familiar but considerably more 'mature' than his daughter's voice had once been. Xylia had definitely grown up into a lovely young woman and the change was clear even in her voice.
