Cards. They were interesting creatures, if only because of how different they were.. how.. dynamic. Their world was so large and confusing that it was hard to keep up with their bias and their social nuances. Red is better than black. High numbers were better than low ones.. And the letters were the best of all. He stayed away from those; he had been told those were the ones that had the strongest and most dangerous magic. Aleah took the time to adjust his hat, making sure his ears were cramped in just so in a way that made only a part of them hang down the sides of his face. Certainly not rabbitlike, and with his shaggy hair mostly in his face it obscured his features even more. A jacket completed the look, buttoned from the neck down to conceal where the mark of a card would normally be. It was almost funny how easy it was to walk among them; these people truly didn't know rabbits when they were staring them right in the face. "Thankee kindleh! Thankee, thankee!" Aleah sing-songed in a tired, wistful twang as he passed over payment for a bundle of fine herbs. The salesperson seemed more ready to get rid of the customer than look at him, even with those odd claws he had upon his paws. Then again.. most people had seen stranger things in the Capital. That was why a busy, big place was ironically the best place to shop. Go to a place like Kahmden and they pick you out immediately as out of the ordinary. No.. A person had to go where all the other freaks were. Giving a broad, strange smile, Aleah swaggered away from the man, putting his most recent purchase on the cart he used to pull his belongings. It was covered in bits of trash and a dirty old blanket. Dressed in castaway yet clean clothing, and carrying a cart of what looked like trash, most people took him for a travelling vagrant and collector of odd things. The fact he was a Highlander might have caused people's brows to furl curiously... but perhaps they thought that it was just possible for all creeds to fall from grace. When masquerading as a card, Aleah took on a rather distinct personality. Perhaps it was what he considered a card to be like. Simple, rough, and ignorant, he spoke in a strong accent of vague origins that sounded more to be from the poor parts of society than a subtle foreign twang. He was ignorant.. slightly illiterate, and obnoxiously lacking in social skills which made him blend in seamlessly with the other traveling hermits and vagrants that often stumbled about the streets. It was the simple fact he had money on him that made it so he wasn't chased back into the dirty alleys.

Eldryia was antsy. It had been nearly a week since she left the Court of Hearts, and she was still stuck in the Capital! Just when she thought she was ready to leave, to truly start her adventures, she remembered something else she could take with her on what was sure to be a long journey. Not to mention...she was also putting off the desicion of where, exactly, she was going to go. But staying in the Capital wasn't all bad. People watching was definitely more interesting when there were so many people to watch, many of them sporting odd mutations or Realm combinations Eldy had never seen before. She had been trailing a very odd looking mixed breed, walking with surprising stealth considering her binding, when she heard a very odd accent. Ears perked, she turned slowly to see someone dressed very oddly indeed. It was a bit hard to tell what animal they were, but Eldy would probably guess some breed of canine given the long ears she could see sticking out from under (his?) hat. The rank and suit were covered by a jacket, but from the markings he was obviously Highlands. Intrigued, Eldy moved closer, trying to be quiet...but her eyes were completely on the new animal and she practically tripped over a crate of cabbage, ears going back and a slight hiss escaping as the loud crashing noise resounded through the street. She backed away from the merchant before he noticed who had done that, and then sought out the other person again, knowing he was sure to have noticed her by now.

Aleah flinched despite himself. He couldn't help but be a little bit jumpy out amongst enemies, even though the persona he put off around them was one of an ignorantly oblivious nature. He calmed his nerves with a breath, looking over his shoulder to see what had been following him. Tangled up in cabbages, the creature gave such a yowl that it was obvious the breed before he laid eyes upon it. Such an odd creature. What had it been doing? Had it been watching him? When the creature looked his way, it was hard to think anything else. Ugh. He'd have to diffuse the situation to keep the card off of his tail.
"Ally-o there, stranger! Takin' a spill o'er the cabbages are we? Tis lookin' like you need to pay the man for spoilin' his goods doncher think? Bad form, bad fooorm, stranger!" Almost sing song, he goaded a frown from the merchant who was hastily salvaging what he could of what he spilled.
"Trouble maker, sarr! A li'tul trouble maker spillin' ye goods and pokin' about in places ye don' belong. What you dooooin' stranger? What ye doooin' behind the cabbages?"
((Doesn't this just seem like something a troublesome rabbit would do? XD))

So he HAD noticed her. UGH. Of course he had. What was she even THINKING? How could she still be so...careless. She was lucky this was just the Capital...if she'd been in a more dangerous realm, she'd probably be dead right now. It was a sobering thought, but she didn't let herself focus on it.
"Sorry, sir," she mumbled to the merchant, who merely huffed at her and continued to salvage his wares, mumbling about clumsy kids. Eldy turned toward the stranger, and her ears went back in total confusion. She caught something about bad form and needing to pay someone, but geez, she'd never heard an accent like that before. Highlands may have been his coloration, but she'd never met anyone from there who talked like THAT!
Her tail flicked unhappily as she padded a bit closer to him. "Was that supposed to be Common?" she asked bluntly, narrowing her purple eyes at him curiously. She blinked, frowning slightly. "And they were just...in my way. Hard to move anyway what with this binding and all, let alone when people leave stuff lying in the middle of the road." She waved her back paw at him to demonstrate what she meant, the heavy metal ball scraping on the cobblestones.
In reality, she had overcome most of the impedement of her binding a long time ago, and it was her lack of attention to the world right in front of her nose that had caused the accident, but this guy didn't need to know that. Maybe if he felt sorry for her he wouldn't be supicious. Or maybe he'd try to make himself halfway understandable. Then again, from the cart of rags, he seemed to be homeless or something.

What was it doing now, spewing insults at him? Chuckling, he watched it with fascination as it spoke. Common. Well, yes. Common in how he'd learned it. A bit of slang here and a touch of proper here. Sure, he twanged it up a bit but card common certainly wasn't his first language. Giving a helpless shrug, he grinned and watched her bring the ball and chain into view. Yes.. Torques were infamous for their bindings. They liked that kind of stuff, it seemed. If she was looking for pity she'd be mistaken. Aleah couldn't bring himself to care enough about the card to consider such a thing. It was probably a good thing he hadn't realized the card was trying to extract some sympathy from him; he might have been disgusted.
A moment of silence passed as the rabbit had nothing else to say. Finally, without so much as a goodbye, he turned and went on his way, pulling his cart behind him.
(( Ahaha XD Oh goodness. So funny.))

Cabbages... wouldn't one not know his luck to come across something like this? The Torque feline was so happy that now he had a way to buy them cheaper since now they were covered slightly by dirt and the such. He was so elated that he hadn't noticed who had knocked them over and only had eyes for the cabbage the man was trying to gather before anyone saw their chance at it. That was when Menefer pounced on the deal. He moved with as much grace as his bound leg would allow him. He stalked up to the man and started to speak in his odd happy-go-lucky speech. "Ze know I wouldn't mind buying those cabbages from ze if ye don't mind it at tal?" He pointed to one that was still on the ground and many more that were still sitting on the hard packed dirt. "Now... look at those poor things... all dirty and all... I'll buy them at half the price else I wouldn't mind spewing all the around that ze cabbages are dirty." The feline said with a wide smile on his face, he knew he had won when the man packed the cabbages in the brown bag and handed it to him and took half the payment that he would have otherwise received. With a thanks, the feline rushed up to the highlander that had caught the mouses attention making her crash into them in the first place. "Ze there. Would ze mind waiting up...?" he asked as the strange thought crossed his mind. Why was he... she? wearing clothing? That was odd...

Ugh, would no one leave him alone??? Aleah turned around, rolling his eyes and heaving a most exaggerated sigh. He assumed it was the same Torque.
"Eh, what what what? Whaddye want? Can't you see I'm tryinn'a get sommere??" But then he stopped, giving the cat a very odd look. Yes, it was still feline. Where was the ball and chain? Now its leg was all bound up instead of dragging the heavy object. "Wait.. what.. were you.. you the same cat?" No, no, it wasn't. Hell, they all looked the same to him. This one though, looked like it was a bigger creature, with a deeper voice and different accent as well. "Nah nah nah... Too many cats out today! What's wrong wif you all? Got nothing bedder to do? Silly cats." Even as he spoke with a lighthearted tone though, his paws reflexively gripped the bars to the cart he was pulling.

Well Menefer hadn't noticed those long claws tipped on each of his paws before. It should have been something that he should have looked for before. This was quite odd for him and yet, he was slightly intrigued with this... cat doggish thingy? Well it didn't matter at all what it looked like, because of him he had scored a good deal on some cabbages and he wanted to repay this highlander.
The Torque smiled showing off his nice sharp pointy fangs that he had from his breed and chuckled about the joke that he had played. Too many cats out today, that was somewhat funny to the feline.
"That may be zo but, be it as it may ze had helped me make a good deal on some cabbages and I'za be wonderin if ze would wish to dine with me?" he asked the highlander with and elegant bow. "Un of ze days I will be cooking for the Court of Spades, so ze should be delighted to know that I'z a good cook, for I am Menefer de Cook." with the final word spoken did the feline raise up from his steep bow showing much floris with his disability, the golden cloth binding around his right back leg.
"Zo what do ze say? he asked with a rather large smile compleatly unlike any Torque Helm that even Menefer had ever known. To him he was a special cut from the depressed realm.

Eldy sighed in annoyance as the odd man seemed...amused at her. Well, THAT attempt at getting fake sympathy had fallen flat, but at least he wasn't angry. It was only now that she noticed his rather peculiar claws...they looked sharp and dangerous. Then again, she'd lived her whole life in fear of being killed if her very existance was discovered...so somehow, after her father, this strange Card didn't seem very menacing.
She rolled her eyes as he began to walk off without a backwards glance. "Okay, geez, nice meeting you too, jerk," she mumbled, and was about to walk off when she noticed...another Torque feline who was buying all the cabbages she had just knocked on the ground. And apparently was...THANKING the weird man for helping to...to what? Make Eldy careless enough to knock them over? Now THAT was just annoying. Tail fluffed up unhappily, she stalked over to the other cat and gave him an unhappy frown.
"HE helped you make a deal on those cabbages? Hey, I was the one who actually did the knocking over!" As soon as the angry words had left her mouth, she realized how stupid they sounded. Why was she demanding credit for something she was ashamed of and had done completely by accident?

Wait, what? Aleah couldn't keep himself from laughing as he listened to what the irate ball and chain feline had to say. "So des'prit fer attention, you are, that you fight me for credit over destruction of a poor man's property? Your priorities are just a wee bit skewed, I think!"
Goodness. Cards were really a piece of work. "B'sides, were you not stalking me like da little weirdo you are... You'd have never knocked them over to begin with."
Once more, his attention turned back to the male Torque, tilting his head with curiosity at the card. This was dangerous ground. He was supposed to be limiting contact, getting his errands done and getting out without being followed. Still, these creatures.. they were fun to interact with, fun to rile up. Also there was an issue of not blowing his cover. What sort of homeless man turned down free food. His nose wiggled contemplatively. "Aye. I'd eat me some cabbage. Boiled, perhaps? That is iffen this other creature doesn't bowl me over for the right to eat it."
