Temporary shelter... it was all well and good, but Dorian was going to have to move on soon. The abandoned one-room shack near the foot of the Highland mountain range had served him well throughout his travels, built by some Card sometime or another and left to suffer from the elements for who knew how long before he took up 'residence'. It had nearly outlived its usefulness, though. He was only a few months away from being an adult Jack, with all of the privileges and responsibilities that went along with his rank. He was unbearably excited, but also... a touch worried. Finding his first Leveret was coming along well, especially if he managed to charm the little Morganberry he had only just met, but acquiring a Doe was a much more difficult - and pressing - matter. Only six or seven months prior, he had sent his father-Jack in Esterberry a carefully worded letter hinting oh-so-delicately at his impending birthday. Surely the man wouldn't want his son, born a Jack and schooled in his warren, to be seen as a sexual predator once he hit the age of maturity and had no ready companionship? Thus far, he'd received no response, which set him on edge. It seemed his father wasn't going to do the noble thing and send him along a female companion after all, which meant that he would have to deal with the problem himself. And soon.

The Doe walked along at a timid pace, not a usual sight for the previously content and happily owned female. While she understood the trading that went on amongst Jacks, and knew that her worth was probably limited from the start, it still struck a personal chord for her to be sent along so soon. She assumed it was because although beautiful and with an interesting talent in her bite, she had a major drawback. She darted quickly around a dip in the earth and smiled to herself, shaking her head mentally away from the train of thought she'd been on. So she was blind, so what? She had tuned herself to the earth around her foribly, not having any excelling senses to make up for her complete lack of sight. Her side of the world was strange, but no less beautiful. There were pictures in her mind that others would not comprehend, having seen the world a different way than her. Her shapes and concepts of things to fill the black void were probably extremely deranged compared to what was 'real'. It made her appreciate other things, sound and smell especially. And touch. Oh how that thrill never got old. Her heart skipped a beat at the thought, realizing suddenly that she would get to experience someone new in every aspect. Somehow the exciting thought hadn't crossed her mind. Not that her old Jack had bored her, oh no, but with how intoxicated she could get off of her senses, the idea of exploring a new taste, a new smell, a new caress... her pace had quickened as she heard a disgruntled stutter of surprise from behind. "Vishka, no need to rush, we'll get there when we get there. Master Dorian will be happy to see you regardless." The leveret smiled and shook his head as he followed along, mixed highland and esterberry blood evident in his appearance. He turned his nose up to scent the area, drawing to a stop as he investigated the letter. He frowned a touch as he took in the small shelter and sighed, no wonder it had been so important to get this aspect of the Jack's life underway. Soon he would need a more permanent residence, if only his father could see this! The man might get a chuckle, at least. "This way, Vishka." He hated directing her, knowing she was very capable of following the curves of the land. Sometimes he wondered what it looked like in her head, if anything at all. She came along with a smile though, and it eased him to see that she'd shed the uncertainty and replaced it with an apparent eagerness. He knew the girl well enough to know she'd be very unsure of herself, she was stunning to be sure but ah... well, imperfections didn't go unnoticed by Jacks of any kind. Hopefully Dorian would be like his father and at the very least not neglect the girl even if she didn't turn out to be a 'favourite'. Though he had no idea of the man's taste, his letter hadn't been picky on what kind of Doe he'd hoped for, just that he'd been hoping for one. The leveret knocked politely before stepping back, motioning Vishka up beside him with a click of his fingers as she adjusted her brilliant violet mane with a flick of her head.

At that point, Dorian had been occupying himself by sharpening the blade of his bone-hilt knife, the metal gleaming in a shaft of light that made its way through a small hole in the thatching of the roof. Everything leaked, but he knew where to stay so as not to be soaked when it rained, and today was thankfully a beautiful day.
The knock at the door made him freeze, dark golden eyes going wide as flashes of all sorts of horrible things flitted through his mind. It could be anyone from a stray Card looking for shelter to a nearby Jack who'd noticed his presence on their border, or anything in between. Whatever it was, though, he was quite certain that it meant no good for him. This was why he needed his own warren - multiple access points and escape routes! The single room shack offered nothing of the sort.
If nothing else, he could distract them with a feint of his knife and flee if they proved to be hostile. Hopefully it wouldn't be necessary. With one or two quick breaths, he stood and smoothed down the top of his hair with a careful paw, the other one sliding behind his back to both conceal the knife and afford him a more formal posture for answering the door. Then he approached and flipped the latch, pulling it inward and glancing outside.
...Rabbits for sure! No Jack, though, which was an instant relief to his mind. His rank would afford him all the protection he needed from the lesser classes. A slight turn of his body allowed him to slip the blade back in its sheathe on his hip, away from their sight, as he offered both of them a gracious nod of his head.
"Good... afternoon?" he began, voice less genteel than he hoped as his eyes caught on to the precise nature of the stunningly wine-and-purple creature in front of him. He recognized the Highland-mix Leveret from earlier years in his father's warren, so the nature of this visitor just had to be what he was hoping. It had to be.
Those little fangs peeking out from her muzzle were a terribly adorable accessory. He wondered what sort of mutation caused her eyes to be opaque in nature. How odd. Exotic, though. This was a newer Doe, not very much older than him. At least, he didn't recognize her from his time at the warren many years ago. Why on earth would his father have sent him such a prize? The Jack didn't like him that much.

The leveret smirked to himself when he caught Dorian plastering his youthful eyes on the beautiful Doe in front of him. Well, this was going well, but how to tell him... Hmmm. "Greetings again master Dorian, it has been too long. Your father received your letter and saw it fit to send me along with an early birthday present. If you would like her, Vishka is all yours." The Jack had had a hard time letting her go to his son, simply because she was oh so nice to look at. But once his company had figured out she was blind, all kinds of jokes had started up on his behalf, and the man was far too prideful to allow that. Hopefully Dorian was of a more understanding nature, though he remembered the boy's vanity and that concerned him.
Vishka's ears perked at the sound of a voice, puzzled and not altogether pleased to see them it seemed. But didn't he know they were coming? Or was this some kind of surprise? She listened to the leveret speak and started, she was a... birthday present? Somehow that made things even better. She smiled sweetly behind a few strands of electric purple hair, a warm blush colouring the white fur of her cheeks, made only cuter by the purple freckle-like markings there. "It is a pleasure to meet you at last, Dorian." Her voice was surpriringly deep and smoky for her cute and bright appearance, though it might have had something to do with how she talked around the fangs so that they didn't interrupt her speech.
Not that she could really tell he was looking at them, but she had a sense of when eyes were on her so she knew that the young Jack was looking at something, and her fangs normally were a source of interest. "My bite produces a hallucinogenic effect, but it's not at all addictive, so do not worry." Another blush accompanied the words, realizing how suggestive they were. She had been warned not to be too forward, for she would be the young Jack's first Doe, and at his age, any temptation would be almost... cruel. Though now that she was here, she was his to do with what he wanted.
The leveret grinned at the interaction, he could tell the Doe was eager to be closer to the man and explore him, mostly because all of her mental images came from touch and smell, though sound had a lot to do with it, and the young male's voice was pleasing to the ears and the female was intrigued. However, he really had to interrupt at some point to make it known about her little disability. Why he was so frightened, he wasn't sure. Worst came to worst, Dorian would refuse her and send her back and his father would find someone else for her. But he had a feeling if he could get past the blindness that Dorian would be an excellent Jack to the girl. Over her few months at the Warren, the leveret had gotten attached to her in a fatherly or brotherly way, and he hated the idea of her going to anyone he and his Warren didn't explicitly know and trust. He was getting snooty in his old age.
"I do so hate to interrupt, but I have to be going and... ah... well I do feel you should know that Vishka is blind... She gets most of her mental images through touch and scent, and she knows how to navigate without bumping into everything quite well." He was rambling, trying to soften the blow by explaining the woman's competence despite her minor imperfection. He saw the girl's face fall with worry and hated having to be the one to say it, but he knew she would be too shy to do it outright herself.

If he would like her? Dorian mentally snorted at the Leveret's choice of words. They were probably directly from his Jack's mouth, too, from their phrasing. The man's sense of humor had always been terribly dry, whenever he bothered to show one. Outwardly, one hand moved up to tap at his cheek in a practiced fashion, feigning and failing to look natural as he turned his eyes away from the servant and viewed the pretty young lady herself.
And she was a little lady, he could see that already, from the demure blush on her cheeks to the artful fall of her mane. Splendid! He didn't know what he would do with a crass Doe. Discipline them, he vaguely supposed. "My dear, the pleasure is all mine," he offered with a gentlemanly half-bow. Now that he wasn't expecting danger or surprised out of his wits, he could let his manners shine through and charm the young thing.
He didn't comment on her remark about her bite, merely raised his eyebrows and smiled slightly. Inwardly, it perked a strong bit of interest. What on earth had she meant by that? Was she vaguely poisonous? How intriguing. Why would his father have possibly sent him this fetching creature?
...then, of course, the other shoe dropped. His face went from a smile to mildly affronted, and then smoothed over again to an expression of polite interest. Of course, the man had to send him a defective Doe. Well, at least she was pleasing to look upon, and she seemed to be biddable. He couldn't really ask for more in the beginning. At least he wouldn't be going insane with lust! Some part of him felt gypped, however, by the fact that she couldn't even see her new Jack to appreciate his youthful good looks and golden beauty. It stung! His father's sense of humor, finally coming out in full.
"Oh, yes, well... only Jacks are expected to be perfect," he said breezily, waving one hand in a dismissive gesture at the statement. He would play this off with aplomb or he wasn't worth his rank. "Father does so enjoy his little games. Please thank him for me when you return and inform him of my intention to establish a warren in the Wastes several months hence. That will be all. Come along, my dear."
Was he supposed to lead her? Was that what the Leveret had been doing all this time? A moment's dismay crossed his features, but it smoothed out quickly. He was still being watched by the damned Leveret. No weakness! Maybe he could acquire her a personal servant at some point to tend to her?
((I'm having so much fun with this. xD Thaaaank you for playing with me! He's such a ridiculous muse. *fluffs him*))

((Hehe, anytime love! <3))
Her eyes looked up when he spoke to her and she sighed like one in love. His voice was so... she pictured something bright and regal, beautiful and shimmering in her head. It made her feel warm from head to toe, and she could only smile beautifully at the male in response. He'd spoken to her! She had heard some of the does say quietly, very out of earshot of her previous Jack, that his son was quite a sight to behold. The knowledge panged her heart, that they saw his glory in a way she never could, but she would hopefully discover it for herself in another way.
She didn't know how her bite worked exactly, only that it produced a high like doing checkmate or another drug, only it wasn't addictive, not in the traditional sense. It wasn't something someone would be forced to crave, but if enjoyed of course they would want her to do it again at some point. Vishka couldn't see the male's expressions, and so she simply waited with ears slightly dropped for him to respond to what the leveret had said. Oh, couldn't he have just let her enjoy this a bit longer? She resisted the urge to sigh simply because it would have been rude and smiled uncertainly instead.
The leveret watched without wincing, which was a point for him. He didn't risk a glance at Vishka, knowing what he'd see. The girl gave very little away, surprisingly. "Of course, young master." He smiled good-naturedly, knowing that the Jack was in a rush to brush the subject off and have the leveret leave. He would receive Dorian's disdain by extension of his father, as he Was the man's most trusted servant after all, and it was something he'd grown accustomed to. The man's sense of humour grated on the nerves of many. "Thank you sir, the message will be delivered as such. Good afternoon." After having formally handed her over, the leveret didn't address the female as she was now the property of another. He did smile at the back of her head before turning and starting his long trek back.
The doe listened to Dorian's directions before he sent the leveret off, her face brightening a touch as he summoned her with his words, so he accepted her then? This was wonderful! "Of course, my Jack." She walked in through the open door with ease, standing just inside to get her bearings on the new atmosphere. It was harder to find her way around inside dwellings simply because there tended to be obstacles at varying heights and hard to predict locations, but if she moved slowly she could feel where things were around her, scent them out. Wood had a certain smell, as did books, leather, all common things she came across and learned.
She began to explore just a touch, getting a feel for the dimensions of the room, but not wandering too far from the entrance while her Jack returned inside. Maybe he would want to talk to her? It had been a long time since she'd had someone's attention all to herself, she was almost nervous at the prospect, what if she wasn't that interesting? Well, she could try at least!

My Jack. Well, wasn't that quite the pleasant means of address? He could get used to hearing that, especially in that soft tone. The door remained open for her to enter, which she thankfully did without his assistance. Making his eventual trek halfway across the realms was going to be a pain in the arse when it was time for him to move, but hopefully by that time he would have a Leveret to help the Doe and they would be spurred on by the promise of a new warren. He'd scoped out potential locations several years back and had one in mind that he dearly wished to cultivate.
His eyes followed the Leveret as he moved off, slowly disappearing into the lush field. Only then did Dorian draw back into the one-room building and close the door behind him.
He was left with a sightless Doe exploring his meager excuse for a home. As he watched her, he could appreciate the aesthetics in her movement, hesitant but curious. How often would she have to bump into things before she would know where they were well enough not to? He would have to move one or two items onto sturdier surfaces, he supposed.
...his own Doe, all to himself. His ears twitched slightly in excitement as he thought about it. "He said that your name is Vishka?" the young Jack inquired, moving to settle himself on the bed. It had come with the dilapidated hovel and was the only sturdy piece of furniture in the room. He'd ended up burning the two chairs that had also been inside. Both of them had been falling apart and he didn't have the slightest idea how to fix them. "Tell me a bit more about yourself, my dear. If we are to be living together..."
Finally, a chance to be gallant. He could ignore her blindness, at least until he had more Does to choose from and he could afford to be picky. Her beauty was exceptional, but she was by no means invaluable. Of course, he had yet to 'sample' her ability as well...

She could feel his eyes on her and blushed, so far she's managed to gracefully get a hold of her immediate surroundings without knocking anything over, but now that he was studying her, her senses became jumbled. She heard the distinct rustling of sheets and knew he was sitting on a bed. The sweet sound of his voice lead her to him, though she was careful to take tentative steps, her hips brushing a small table as she quickly swayed her body around it. Breathing out slowly, she paused at the edge of the bed when she felt it brush her soft fur. "Yes, and yours is Dorian, is this right my Jack?" Her voice was very refined but exotic, the tone curious as if seeking acceptance in every action. Poor thing. "Might I also be able to join you on the bed?" The girl was polite and well-mannered practically to a fault. She'd been trained well to make up for her imperfection.
"Myself? Oh I'm not very interesting. I like the smell and the feel of the flower called a lilly, I love to make sage and jasmine tea, I can sew fairly well, and I have been told I am good at singing." She'd also heard she should be more of a night person, as apparently she practically glowed in the moonlight. But not having the eyes to see it, she could only take their word. "I would much rather hear more about you, if that's alright. I am sure you are much more interesting." She laughed softly, the sound happy and musical, strange for a creature with her life. Most didn't expect her to be so cheerful about life and the cards it had dealt her, but she was a strange creature in that respect. His voice was sweet, and his words were warm. It made this tingling feeling in her skull and she sighed happily, she had missed that feeling.
If only she knew that her Jack was thinking so much about all the Does he would find to replace her, she might not be so lost in her bliss. But she was obvlivious, and took everything at face value. He seemed happy, so she would not question it unless he gave her sincere reason to. He even wanted to get to know her! Really know her! How charming a concept that someone would be interested in what lie behind the pretty little face. When he would invite her onto the bed, she would join him and settle close by, as touch helped her imagine things.
"Might it be alright if I were to touch you?" She asked quietly, her voice a little shaky and not just from being uncertain about herself and what she was allowed to do. So excited was the Doe at the prospect of touching him, be able to see him in her head and find out if the images she had from rumours of his beauty were correct. If he was that beautiful... no, surely he could not be, or else he would have no need of her! But she'd rather him be ordinarily beautiful and enjoy her, than extraordinarily beautiful and find her to be below him. He certainly didn't seem arrogant as they had made him out to be!

"Yes, my name is Dorian. I'm sure that you'll be hearing it much more often in the coming years," the Jack agreed with a preening brush of his mane that she wouldn't be able to see. Habits died hard, and he had absolutely no wish to stop. Such gestures only accentuated his natural beauty, in his mind. "And yes, you may join me, my dear."
One hand pat the linens of the bed that he took outside every week or two and shook vigorously. Sleeping in dust would be filthy, and he had no desire to be coated in his own shed hair or fur upon waking. Brushing out his mane could be hassle enough without anything else to get stuck in it. Her interests seemed comfortably domestic and very appropriate to a Doe. His father probably wouldn't have had her any other way. As soon as she asked about him, however, he sat up a little straighter and his pigeon-chest puffed out subconsciously. His favorite subject!
"How right you are! Yes, you may touch me, so long as you take care not to tangle my mane." Anticipation of her attentions made him shiver a little in eagerness. He'd never had a Doe touch him before, and he could only assume that she was no virgin. His father would have never gifted him with such a prize as an untouched Doe, nor would he have let her leave his warren before taking care of the matter. Far too much of a liability, the prospect of her running off and not craving the touch of a Jack like a drowning woman craved air. He could satisfy her Need, he was sure, even if he had yet to experience his own burst of it.
"Let me see... begin at the beginning, I suppose, and my true beginning would be the year that I left the warren you so recently came from. It all started as I left Esterberry..." His story would ramble on and take up the better part of an hour if she allowed it.

She could feel his body movements on the bed, tell when he was shifting position and picture his expression from the tone of his voice. He seemed to perk when she asked him about himself, and she blushed realizing she'd done something that he liked. She knew he'd be much more interesting than her anyway, he was a Jack, and apparently one of the most beautiful ones many of the does she'd spoken to had seen. She felt lucky but cautious, he would surely replace her soon, oh well might as well enjoy her time while she had it then!
When he gave her permission to touch him, she sighed happily and leaned in until she laid halfway across his lap, one arm gently on his shoulder to steady herself as the other paw wandered across his chest curiously, her nose buried into his luxurious hair as she inhaled his scent. Her paw drifted slowly up to his face as he spoke, being careful not to get in the way of his speech while he spoke the story of his life. Her eyes seemed to fill more and more with wonder as time wore on, he was so much more interesting just like she'd thought! But it raised a lot of questions about what had become of her and why. Oh well, it was their family business, none of her concern.
She wasn't as innocent as he might have liked, but she wasn't exactly the most well-used doe of his father's by any means. In fact, being so close to the handsome Dorian and feeling that legendary silken fur had made her quiver a little bit. The angles of his face painted a beautiful picture in her mind, and as soon as he fell silent her paw brushed down along his cheek and she looked up at him with large eyes. "You're so strong and independent, and just as handsome as everyone said. Forgive me if I seem awestruck, my Jack." Her voice was a little breathy, the violet freckles on her face glowing with her embarassment at being caught speechless.
Her paw had continued to wander, now used to the broad width of his chest and feeling down his arms, brushing his adornments and clothing with curiosity. She paused when she felt the top of his pants and smiled, he had such a nice form. He was developing quite wonderfully, and it sparked far too much within her. Her tongue flicked out slowly, creating a thin warm line along his neck as she carefully moved her face out of his hair, not wanting to tangle it. He even tasted beautifully, and she murmured her approval softly.
"Please my prince Dorian, forgive me if I'm being too greedy, you simply have a lovely form and by exploring it this way I can really picture you. I thought I would be better at resisting you... but it seems I'm falling victim to your charms." She laughed softly and slid up tighter to him, breathing out slowly less she loose her head and come on too strong. She was a lady, and taught to behave like one, falling over her Jack like a common whore would be embarassing.
