“Well, it gets impossibly dull around here,” Darcy responded quickly, getting the sense he was being patronized. “The landscape is always beautiful but it hardly ever changes, and the majority of people never travel farther than the Highlands, and those that do move away to the Courts. I think if I didn’t have my music I’d go absolutely insane,” he drawled in an overdramatic tone. “I’ve been to the Capital a few times…but I never run into anyone or anything particularly interesting.” His attention was hard to grab for prolonged periods of time, and he was definitely hard to impress.

He rolled his eyes at his stupidity; the only other region that customarily wore masks were those from the Wastes, and the bat certainly wasn’t from there. Still…it looked different from what he’d imagine. It was actually somewhat scary, though he’d die before admitting it. Plus, he didn't think Villa air was in any way dirty.

“But you’re not only from the Bog, are you?” He didn’t have the coloring for it.

Darcy sighed. “I’m afraid of bothering you too much with my incessant questions; it’s just very rare that I run into anyone worth talking to around here. You can ask me something to, if you’d like.”

"Actually, part Solandrian as well, but the white coloring is actually a Bog trait. Albinism is rare there, but it does happen. My base coat would have been.. perhaps Solandrian brown or the ruddy mud brown of the bog." Mikael didn't mind the questions. He wasn't exactly private about his lineage as it was generally a puzzlement to anyone who saw it, and brought up questions from anyone bold enough to ask.

"Not a problem at all. As you might have guessed, I get those questions often."

So, he wanted him to ask questions as well? He certainly had one that could be construed as personal, though perhaps no more personal than the questions the lad was asking. Still, the part of Darcy's body he had a question about was his instrument; that in itself made it a sensitive question. "Were you born with your instrument on your tail? I'd hate to think that you'd go through the pain of an operation for such a thing. I knew the Villa were serious about their music but... I didn't get my fingers stretched out for my art, you know?"

Darcy’s mouth formed a bemused ‘o.’ “That’s quite exotic.” His parents would be horrified he was talking to a Card with such mixed company.

…Now that was just a ridiculously foolish pun. Still, the boy had not expected the day to turn so exciting and he was giddy from it; he knew people from many different regions, from Torquehelm to the Highlands, but he had never met any one from either the Bog or the Solandria Glacier. He had thought someone from either of those regions would be…cruder. Would wonders never cease?

The Villa chuckled. “I don’t get that question often, but I do receive many inquiring looks,” he remarked, looking affectionately at his tail. “I always had it, it’s just one of those strange gifts I suppose. It’s a very helpful tool, but to be honest it weighs me down. Luckily I don’t have wings like you, they’d be wasted on me,” he added, laughing.

His fingers…

”That’s your bat lineage, I believe?” He asked as offhandedly as possible. “Do they assist you in any way?” He assumed that they merely got in the way, but perhaps he’d be proven wrong. “I have to admit, I’ve never seen anything like them, they're so long.”

He winced inwardly. “That was rude, I’m sorry.” Such an insensitive boy.

At the mention of his wings, he merely smiled. He was quite proud of them, for all that they were acquired through a freak accident that involved stumbled across an enchanted item.

"Yes, Bat. Coyote is just about everything else I guess. Aside from the nose and ears." He gave a dry laugh. He was bat in every way other than what his father had wanted in him. "Not really a boon or a curse, actually, though they made fingerpainting on a massive scale so much easier." Now the laugh that followed -that- was genuine. No doubt he'd gotten in quite a bit of trouble as a child. "Who else can say they could fingerpaint on the walls as a child?"

"Oh please, I'm Bog and Solandrian. I have skin that is about as tough as it can get. I hardly think there is much you can say that could genuinely offend me." Well, he could probably be offended, but he probably just wouldn't care about the boy's opinion.

"So yes.. a spade. Do you come from a family of spades?"

The Villa listened intently and smirked at the idea of giant fingerpaint portraits covering his house, all the way up to the ceilings. Now that would be something hilarious to see. “All I could offer my household were terrible, screeching melodies,” he said with a faux pained expression on his face. He had been so unbelievably bad when he first began to play; he was too small to control his unwieldy tail and even the simplest tunes had been slaughtered. Fortunately for everyone, he improved quickly.

Darcy tilted his head back and laughed, his light blue mane falling down his neck. “We Villas are so easy to offend, one has to get used to avoiding and belittling truth. But then again,” he smiled slyly, “I’m sure living at the Court makes that skill invaluable.” Slowly but surely he’d become the perfect courtier. After all, he did have the word 'Significance' written around his body. As for the other word...

His tail flicked. “…No, actually. My family is made up of Diamonds as far back as anyone can remember.” And high ranking ones at that. “I’m unique in that regard,” he smiled coldly. “What about you?”
