When Owen returned to the ferret's place, he was quite distracted. Really, his lack of a test subject was all that had recalled his attention enough to remember that he'd left the feline Ace with Ambrose. He arrived early evening of the third day, rapping at the door with a metal foot.
Several old conversations had been rumbling around in his mind lately and just yesterday he'd heard someone derisively say that he could only make legs. It was an insult! Of course he had been working on legs almost exclusively for the past four years; he had replaced his own, for Suits' sake! That had taken a great deal of expertise, but he certainly wasn't limited to legs. He'd only had an interest in them.
His black and gold feathers were ruffled up again in annoyance. He would show his naysayers! He would find a great project and then he would show them all! So annoyed was he, Owen might not immediately notice Ambrose opening his door.
