Mephit watched the feline carefully, simply watching as she was hit with yet another wave of anguish. Did it really mean so much to have someone's approval? Apparently it did, but Mephit had assumed it would have an impact though not so heavily as it obviously did.
When Xiven spoke again, Mephit laughed softly and shook her head. "Yes, it's very much happening." The doe was only vaguely aware of what had happened with Lior and Rhi not long before her arrival and even less conscious of how deeply it affected Xiven, but there was really no sense in shielding people from the truth. It only broke them more... Pravus was evidence of this.
"With his sanity in the fragile state it was in, I'm honestly surprise that it hadn't happened sooner." Despite herself, there was a hint of sadness brushing the edges of her voice. Pravus and Fino were two people she liked, honestly liked, and it simply figured that they would both wind up dead and both in such horrendous ways. "I would suggest, however, that you don't follow in his footsteps. This Court needs at least one sound mind."

As quietly as he could manage with dragging feet, Apocalypse forced himself in the direction he'd seen Xiven and Mephit go. At least he was with familiar faces, but that was a fact that was hard to stomach when he could feel his summoner, his soul, getting farther away by the second. His feet dragged, and when he finally reached the door a light knock was all he gave to signal that someone else was there.
"Your Majesty, Your Excellence," he said, standing oddly stiffly, very little emotion in his voice. It was a flat monotone, far from what either would remember from the man before. "I'm sorry to interrupt"
He crossed the room, orange-red eyes hazed over ever so slightly but locked onto Xiven. There was a kind of surrender in his expression when he finally reached her, and he was silent for a moment. "In... the absence of your Kings, Rhiannon and Lior, I have been assigned to.. assist you. In whatever way that I can. Unless you bid me leave." for a split second, there was a hopeful tone in his voice. If she told him to go, then he could. After all, she was a Queen, and his Rhiannon was only a King. "But until then... I'll be your servant, your connection to them."

She had no intention of going insane, not like anyone planned on losing all of their marbles. She took several slow and deep breaths to try and regain her composure, and only managed to give herself a miserable case of the hiccups. The feline's ears flattened against her skull as she looked towards the door, surprised to hear Pale's voice.
Why hadn't Rhi taken him with her?
Xiven's eyes widened briefly as she looked at Pale in disbelief. That... no. None of this made any sense. She clenched her jaw tightly shut, unsure of what to say to either of them. What the hell was she supposed to do? She had lost her Papa and two kings, was this suppose to make up for it somehow?
She made an unpleasant sound and reached up to put pressure on her temples. Her ears flattened against her skull as she continued to struggle with the hiccups that had sprouted up. She let silence fill the room as she looked out from under her hand, her expression was unreadable.
She just wanted someone other than her to speak. She really couldn't handle all of this right now.

Mephit's orange eyes lifted when the scythe entered the room, sans his summoner, and the doe was forced to hesitate as she thought on what had happened. Rhi had left without her summon? That didn't seem like her, not from the brief interactions that they had had with each other...
The longer she watched Pale, the more her mind gravitated toward Marie and her state of mind without Fino. Would Pale suffer in much the same way? Or would he be worse, because he could feel his soul wandering elsewhere? It would be a fascinating study were he to stay, but...
As her mind roved over these ideas the silence temporarily deepen until her cold tone broke through the silence without warning. Her unnerving orange eyes moved between Xiven and Pale, shadowed and unreadable. "Rhi's Queen is not without a King." The decision was an abrupt one, both sudden and quite expected -- on her end at least. A change had been in need of being made, this had been obvious even before Pale arrived, and the scythe's dilemma solidified that idea for Mephit. Deep down, Mephit knew part of her decision was made out of the selfish desire to possess another 'Pravus'. Xiven was close in many ways, though Mephit could not be sure she would be as fun as the late Highlander had been... "If Xiven allows it, go back to your summoner... and I will be her King." That would also be a decision that Xiven would have to approve, for while Mephit was well aware she was mentally ready for the rank... she would not take it without knowing that it benefited her. There was a great hesitation in knowing she might lose her place in the Court were she to take the rank of King without a Queen she approved of.
(Let me know if this is a bit out of line for Mephit to say and I'll tweak it a bit? She's already paid the points for King and, while I had planned to take her through a King Quest, I think this seems like an appropriate time for her to 'ask'.)

(( OOC: <3 Let's just go with it. Xiven will accept Mephit as her King, it's just a rather bad time for her. And she wouldn't let Pale go so easily. <3 ))
That was it. Xiven couldn't take anymore. She was not capable of dealing with anymore drama, anymore decisions. She just.... she couldn't. A choked sound of anguish escaped her as she removed her hand from her temples.
Her movements were sudden as she stood, grasping on to the necklace and note with dear life. She looked to Pale and Mephit with an expression of twisted horror and hatred. How? How could either of them be acting like this when the world was crumbling beneath the Court of Hearts?
"Fuck this, I can't deal with any of this right now," she hissed before storming past the pair of them. Her eyes caught sight of the horrible sight of her father's corpse yet again. She brushed past her mother and headed straight for her room. Once there she slammed the door behind her, a warning to anyone that she didn't want to speak. She didn't think the lock the door, but assumed no one would bother a raging Queen of Hearts.
She walked over to her bed and flopped on it, curling into a tight ball. The necklace in her hands, letter crumpled against her, and her misery overwhelming her.

The silence was... deafening. Apocalypse chewed on his lip as he waited for some reply, glancing between the two women.
When it became clear that Xiven wouldn't be saying anything, he drooped slightly. After all, no reply certainly wasn't a command for him to leave. But then... there was a nagging thought in the back of his mind, one that made him cringe slightly. Why would she tell him to go? He was a connection to Rhiannon, after all. Even now, if he focused, he could tell where she was. He just didn't want to, because where she was was far away from him. It was wrong and unsettling, everything about it made his insides twist.
Apocalypse looked at Mephit as she spoke, his expression unreadable beyond a twitch at the corners of his mouth.
He hadn't expected anyone else to give him an out. He really hadn't expected someone to consider him, but with the doe's familiarity with weapons he supposed it made sense. It seemed like a perfect solution, if he discounted the emotional reasons for keeping him around. The doe was highly intelligent and could actually sign off on work, whereas Xiven would have to go over all of his work and sign off on it herself. He wanted to say something to the woman, some word of thanks, but before he could Xiven hissed out a reply. Whatever joy had been beginning to show on the man's face vanished in a flash as he stared at her repeating form.
He swore, then whirled and punched the door hard enough to send fine cracks spreading across its surface.
Orange eyes, red around the edges, were turned back to Mephit and Apocalypse laughed hoarsely. "This sucks."

For the briefest moment, Mephit was pleased by the thoughts Pale directed at her. She always enjoyed when people thought well of her, it ultimately made everything much easier. The more allies she had,t he less likely she would be killed. The sound Xiven made, however, quickly ruined what could have been a good moment and anguish quickly turned into miserable frustration. Thoughtlessly, the doe jerked away from the possibility of getting caught in the angry Queen's backlash.
Only brief tidbits of Xiven's thoughts reached her, but Mephit didn't concern herself with them at the present moment. How could she act like this? Rational? The already unusual gleam in her eyes darkened, but her face remained unaffected. She didn't move to stop Xiven or to try and console her, there was really no further point in doing so. She'd said what she'd wanted to say, after all.
Pale's sudden burst of anger caught the doe off guard, causing her ears to twitch back against her skull. The scythe was not in a good place... or, appropriately, he was probably in a similar place to herself though Mephit could not even begin to make sense of the emptiness she still felt. "For the time being, I might actually have to agree..."
Perhaps she really ought to go do something else... Clean up the mess that was Pravus? Go rid the world of some horrible miscreant in the dungeons? Her ear twitched again, a notable tick of discomfort.

His hand stung, but it seemed utterly unimportant. The man brushed his fingers over the injured surface of the door. He was smiling, but it was crooked and didn't reach his eyes. It would be clear, from the thoughts he assumed to be private, that the man really wanted to kill something, and really, just about anything or anyone would do.
Apocalypse leaned back suddenly, flopping onto what had once been Pravus's bed. For a moment, he stared at the ceiling, wondering if Mephit was going to leave or stick around. He was fine either way, but... Having someone who had known his summoner close by was comforting. Finally, he sat up again, staring down at where his hands rested in his lap and chewing on his lower lip. It was starting to be a habit... "So what do we do now?" he asked, turning his gaze back to the woman.
Normally, it would probably have been a sexual advance. In this case, however... He honestly had no idea. Should he be sad? Pissed off? He... he didn't know. He was a weapon, for the love of the Suits.

Mephit's eye absently twitched as she watched Pale fall onto the bed. The sight of the pale skinned blond sprawled on the bed of the deceased pale skinned blond was an oddly awkward thought in Mephit's mind. Her hand twitched at her side and she leaned away, craving solitude suddenly.
"I'm afraid my answer is as good as your own." Mephit was at a loss. She knew the most reasonable courses of action, but everyone was so stuck in their emotions. Mephit wanted to gag, well aware that she too was plenty stuck in her own miserable feelings. No, that wouldn't do. "I believe I will take my leave now." He didn't really seem to mind, if his previous thoughts were any example.
The doe swung back for a moment, fixing her stare on the scythe. "Keep yourself busy, it's the only advice I've got." That said, Mephit slipped out of the door and trudged through the halls. She would blindly pass Pravus on the way to her room, expression steely up until the very last moment that the door clicked shut and locked behind her.
