He was doing his best to ignore the Ace at this point, his curiosity about it almost satiated ... except for the fact that he saw those bared fangs from the corner of his eyes. He flipped his ears back and curled up the side of his muzzle facing the mustelid and exposed one of his unnaturally long fangs at it. Other then that he paid it no more mind as he perked up and turned his attention to the primarily Highland woman.
His ears twitched forward at her laugh which was pleasant but ... just as odd as she was. This wasn't the bad sort of odd though, at least he didn't think it was anyhow ... it was so hard to tell with most people. Thus he chose to remain safely speculative for now ... until he could be swayed with facts later ... if there even was a later or any facts really.
I have no complaints as of now.
He paused, debating whether or not it was a good idea to ask her anymore questions before he simply shrugged and gave in, might as well give it a shot.
What's it like being a relative of his?

Drostan's glare narrowed to a rather pointy stare when he was given a glimpse of Jarvis' much longer fangs. His ears went back in something like a pout, though he certainly didn't want the other man to know that it bothered him. Everyone, it seemed, just had to show him up. The fact that he was basically antagonizing every Card he met was something he refused to think about.
Dre tilted her head at the question. It was, perhaps a bit odd, but that didn't really occur to her. "I guess it's just like being related to anyone else," she finally answered, and there was a good chance that it would show a good part of her psyche. She had been born a high rank and she acted like a Face Card. She had the ability to back that up now, but even when she was younger, she had always acted with authority. It didn't occur to her that being the granddaughter of the Queen of Hearts should give her perks because she was a lovely woman with enough of her own power that everyone should be treating her that way anyway.

A little voice in the back of his head told him that he might want to warn the woman about her pet, and the mouth it had on it. If the stupid thing was foolish enough to speak in that tone to the wrong card, well .... he knew there was plenty of people in the palace that wouldn't mind offing an Ace in a heartbeat, he just didn't happen to be one of those. Rudeness didn't usually warrant a death sentence, and the pet wasn't a Lowlander ... no, the chipmunk wouldn't be the one to kill the silly Tulgey. However... the warning didn't exactly fit into their conversation.
The answer he got from the woman almost gave him wasn't what he was expecting .... relatives of the higher ups were definitely treated better as far as he'd seen .... even the incredibly strange children he'd seen running around the palace. Well, maybe she just hadn't known long, or been around people who could offer such things or.... well, this was the stupidest train of thought he'd ever been on and he wanted off. Might as well give her that warning...
Lady Dre...
His voice was soft, but there was a hint of worry under it ... he didn't want her to think he was chastising her.
your pet... seems to have a rather bad habit of rudeness. I'm afraid he may spout off to the wrong Royal and you'll be without him.I'd ... hate to see that happen.
Although he'd love to see the thing get a swift kick to the rear.

Dre's thoughts were pulled from her relationship with her family by the man's sudden tangent. She tilted her head to one side in confusion. "Hrms?" she asked, her voice showing polite interest though she really had no idea to what the chipmunk might be referring.
Drostan, for his part, sneered at the Heart's warning for his mistress, for all the bloody good it would do. Jarvis was about to get a lesson in a very important fact of the Highlander mix's mind. It was always fun to watch.
Dre put out a hand to pet the Ace's head as her gaze remained on the guard's face. "Drostan can't spout off anything. Though, it might be fun if he could! I wonder what an Ace's life is like sometimes. I do so hope he enjoys his life." She smiled brightly at the Marshdweller.

Her response was returned with silence and then a slow arch of the brow. did he really ... hear that right? His ears traveled back to sit halfway between their normal position and his skull as a look of mildly confused shock painted his features as he studied her face. She ... wasn't joking, was she? He'd heard a rumor here and there about the Queen's children and their... oddities, but he'd never taken any of that to heart. However, a little voice in his head decided to bring those up about now ... she did say she was a grandchild which meant she was directly related to one of those supposed weirdos... made some sense now.
He remained quiet for quite some time, not entirely certain what he could say without being rude or stepping over some sort of boundary, but he did manage to get his expression back in check. His little banded brush of a tail twitched a bit as he thought of something to say, but all he got at first was a nervous little laugh that sounded odd to even his own ears. Perhaps it was just best to play along with the oddities of those who were higher up on the totem pole of life then you.
Ahem ... yes, it would be ... rather interesting... to be able to ask him. Have you ... tried?
Ok, so he had to try and drop another hint, even though he sincerely doubted she'd pick up on it.

Drostan gave a low snort of amusement at the chipmunk's obvious ploy and he sent the man a quick, challenging glance as Dre obligingly pulled him up into her lap. She smiled down at the Ace and pet him on the head. "Drostan, how has your day been?"
The Tulgey grison tilted his head to one side and sent her a blank, quizzical glance. The Highlander scratched behind his ears-- something which felt good, but he normally refused to put up with-- and gave a low laugh. "Well, at least you're happy now. I thought you were terribly annoyed earlier."
At these words, the Ace couldn't help but growling softly in his chest. Messing with the blasted guard's head was one thing, the bloody bow was another. He swiftly brought up a hindleg and scratched pointedly at the ribbon. The woman laughed and pet his head in a conciliatory manner. "You'll have to leave that on, Drostan; it looks so good on you."

Well, finally she'd get to see what he was talking about! Except ... the accursed thing decided to play a little game and make him look crazy. He knew it was the Ace that had spoken to him under the rose bush, he knew it. He hadn't been talking to himself or hearing things, blasted Aces. One notched ear slowly moved backward to rest against his skull as he started at the Tulgey. Well, that made his mind up officially ... if he ever saw that thing alone, he was going to bite it and finally see what his poison did to Aces. That thought alone brought a somewhat devious smirk to his muzzle as he eyed the silly thing. Maybe he could.... convince Mephit to help him in fashioning a little dart to get revenge that way? Darts didn't leave tooth marks... and they got things done.
I must have been mistaken, my apologies lady Dre. I must say that bow is rather fetching though isn't it? Have you ever thought of dying his fur a similar color? I bet that would look smashing.
And that little banded brush tail of his was wiggling happily at the thought ... he'd get his revenge one way or another; pink or poisoned it mattered not.

Drostan let his displeasure be known by an immediate hissing sound as he sent the chipmunk a look that, could it kill, would have melted the Heart into a sizzling puddle of yuckiness. The air grew cold as his annoyance translated almost immediately into anger.
Dre gave another happy laugh as she continued to pet her now very riled Ace. "Oh, the thought has crossed my mind, but more of a deep night sky blue. I think the pink would look just smashing against that shade of blue." She sighed softly. "It's just so expensive to maintain any level of colour, though. At least, it was back in the Highlands."
That was something that caused the Ace to breathe a deep sigh of relief. It was something that helped keep him safe from Dre's more unusual thoughts. She was a wild Car herself.

There was a change in temperature that sent a little shiver down his spine ... but that didn't chase the grin off his muzzle, not even a little. In fact, it intensified a bit when she made mention that the thought had crossed her mind in the past. Too expensive eh? Well, growing up in the Marsh with a kooky mother and sister was about to, possibly, pay off then.
Actually, I could help you out with that. My mother used to make dyes and such for my sister out of things you could go and find rather easily out in the wild. I wouldn't be able to get you the exact color, but it would be close and.... blue? Hum that would probably involve some berries and leaves.... it'd make him silky soft and smell quite delightful for a few days after application ....
He turned his gaze to the grison and flashed him a rather winning smile before subduing it and returning his gaze back to the lady.
Mother would probably send you a full batch or two and a recipe if you wished me to ask next time I went home.

Drostan was absolutely glaring daggers; he knew his mistress rather while by this point and that was just the stupid sort of thing she would love. In fact, her eyes were widening and a brilliant smile lit up her features like a Christmas tree as she suddenly hugged the Ace to her.
"Oh, that would be absolutely splendid!" she cried in unfathomable excitement. "Please, please, do! We'll forever be in your debt!"
The Tulgey's eyes narrowed dangerously; apparently the only way to keep this blasphemy from happening would be to find a way to keep the woman from ever meeting this particular guardsman ever again. He would have to find a way to get vengeance if that threatened horror ever occurred, but it seemed wiser to get the two to separate and payback would only happen if he could work out a way to do so without getting into trouble. As it was, this seemed like a battle he had lost.
With a growl, he suddenly wiggled free from Dre's grip, turned his butt towards Jarvis and kicked up bits of grass at the man before abruptly darting for the Palace doors.
"Drostan!" the woman called after him. "Oh, I think he's tired." She turned to smile at Jarvis once again. "Thank you so much for all of your help; I look forward to seeing you around." And she hurried after her pet. Leaving the mess behind her.
