Anatolius immediately recognized the owner of the little voice that called out to him, causing his ears to perk forward as he swung around to face the little canine. "Cas!" He laughed happily, sweeping in to capture the younger male and lift him into a cheerful -- and only moderately careful hug. Thankfully for him, his own work with fire made handling the younger male considerably easier.
His tail was already wagging rather heavily before he caught sight of the fiery mouse standing behind his son. Well, Aderlass himself had escorted the eager boy through the Courts? He chuckled warmly. Of course Ader wouldn't be able to resist being intrigued by a pair of fiery wings running through the halls... "Aderlass! What a wonderful interruption." He chuckled warmly, setting Cas back down. "He would indeed belong to me, thank you for finding him." He tilted his gaze back down, rubbing the puppy's head right between his ears. "And what brings you here, kiddo?"

He was mildly disappointed in the fact that he was swept up before he could snag the other wolf's tail for a game ... but it washed away quickly with the hug ... papa was the only one that could really hug him. Maxwell tried, but that always ended up in him feeling smothered in an especially scratchy blanket that the feline had acquired for that purpose. He returned the affection with a sloppy little puppy kiss to his cheek before he was set down again, his tail thumping against the floor cheerfully.
He peered between the two adults, his red-orange tongue lolling out the side of his muzzle before it was sucked back in so he could answer his father's question, gaze settling in on him.
Practice!
He grinned, thinking his father would understand, he knew the other canine was well aware of his momma's specialties, he just didn't know if he'd need a bit more of an explanation. His switched up his expression then, going from cheerful to putting on the most adorable expression he could muster, his voice a little softer ... just like his tail wags.
Plus ... I'd rather be with you.

His Majesty watched as the canine lifted his son into the air and gave him an affectionate hug. It was good to see that the kid was looked after well. It made the mouse wish for that kind of relationship with his own offspring. With Mari coming to the end of her term he could feel the anticipation building. These kids would definitely grow up differently than the ones before.
"You did a mighty fine job with him," he complimented as he crossed his arms across his chest, nodding toward the wings. "Though I have to say, it is quite a surprise to find out that you have kids."
Eying Tolius in a new light he had to admit that the canine definitely did seem to fit well into the role of father. It made the mouse respect the male more, not to say he had not respected him enough before.

Anatolius beamed proudly down at his son, watching the way he grinned. Practice, hm? So he was sneaking around again? ...Luckily, he didn't appear to have gotten into any trouble by following him into the palace.
"Then you've done a wonderful job of it, haven't you! Finding me even in the middle of the palace." He gave his son another little pat, especially after that little undertone. It made him a little sad that the family had such a noticeable gulf in it at times... "I'm always glad to have you around, Nova."
His attention slid back up to Aderlass then and he grinned, noting the wings as well. The fiery appendages were really quite gorgeous and even he himself was proud of the way his mutation had shown up in his son... Even if it did have a tendency to make things a bit awkward at times... "Why thank you, your majesty." His grin slowly became ever so slightly sheepish as he went on, having trouble admitting that he hadn't exactly planned for children either.
Oi.
"I get that a lot, actually.. and, honestly, I'm still surprised by the thought." He chuckled again, rubbing the back of his neck. "I never thought I'd do very good at the whole parenting bit, but I've been enjoying it quite a bit."

At the compliment his grin broadened even more and he puffed out his chest ... he just loved compliments and praise! It was even better when it came from his papa. But the attention didn't stay fixed on him and he deflated back down to normal. His ears remained forward but his own attention wandered to his surroundings which were .... kinda dull. He'd never really been all that into reading, or books in general and to be honest they kind of smelled funny all in one place like this .... but he didn't intend on voicing that opinion, it'd be rude.
There was a redeeming quality to the shelves of books though, their covers, or spines, actually, were a myriad of different colors and he quite happily fixed his attention on that while keeping an ear on his father and the Queen in case either were to address him again. His gaze stopped on one book in particular well .... wasn't that just the strangest color he'd ever seen? What color was that anyway? He tilted his head to the side slowly as he tried to decide.

Seeing the pup's reaction to the praise the mouse could not help but chuckle. Children were priceless and always kept one on their toes. It was just one of the best things about them. As the mouse had grown older he had come to appreciate them.
Coming forward he patted his friend on the shoulder before resting his hand there. "It comes to a surprise for all of us. Do not worry though, it is also something that grows on you."
He could remember back to when he had had his first litter, Elyse and Hadyn, not to mention it had been around the same time for Whip. Nine kids coming into the world at once, living in an apartment with the not the most family oriented people. It had definitely been something.
"So, wot are you up to?" He asked, glancing around at the books.

Didn't it just? He'd never thought children would be such a pleasure... Well, not all of them had been happiness and sunshine but Nova definitely he. Toli didn't mind having him as a fiery little shadow, not at all. Brokat and Vesper... He would have loved to give them the same attention, but they both attracted an unpleasant about of negative attention. Brokat was an angel, too much like his mother for his own good, and had only his heritage to blame, which was heartbreaking in and of itself, but Vesper simply brought her troubles onto herself. Even when she was trying to be 'nice' she just had a way about her that attracted the worst of everyone's attention.
These, however, were his own worries and nothing to subject Ader to. Especially not with Nova's curious ears tuned to him.
"A bit of personal research, actually." As always, Toli was working to improve his abilities... his usefulness to his Queen. Or, perhaps, just something to better best the mouse in their sparring. "Nothing all too important, so I don't mind at all if I were to be distracted away from it." The canine chuckled playfully before turning his attention to Nova once more. Lingering in the library probably wasn't at all that fun for the boy... "If you're not busy, My Queen, perhaps a bit of sunshine would be a nice distraction for the lot of us?"
Or, anywhere else that would be keep Nova's wings away from valuable paper.

Staring at this particular book and pondering over it's color could only stay entertaining for a short amount of time for anyone and a very short span for someone like him. He was just going ot call it an off shade of brown and leave it at that... even if it had quite a few things in common with purple... it was brown, a very strange shade of brown .... but that's what it would remain.
He turned his attention back to the conversation that was happening above him and found it to be just about as dull for him as the color was. Well, there was one thing left that he could try to get A) more attention back on him and B) get things moving in a direction that was at least remotely entertaining ... be cute.
He fixed his gaze on Toli, flopped his triangular ears down to the sides and turned his expression into the best pouty puppy dog look he could manage. It worked on momma... so ... it was worth a shot.
