He moved away from Silas a bit when he came over to help the equine as well as the otter ... well, between all of them there certainly wasn't any way the boy would slip again before he got up ... right? Well... when he moved he ended up being toward the rear of the boy, but he didn't really mind ... well, maybe just a little. He's said he would help ... and he would.
But he was still a little distracted, the six legged tree boy's name was just .... ever so familiar and he was racking his brain trying to remember where he'd heard it, along with a little mention of it's owner's appearance. There just ... weren't many cards like the boy, were there?
Aha! It was at the Court of Clubs that he'd heard it and, as soon as the equine boy was on his feet again, Nova was right back at Silas' side, tail waving with new vigor. He did pause for a moment though to regard him with his head tilted ever so slightly to one side ... yes, there was no mistaking it ... this had to be the one ...
He eyed the other two briefly before dipping his head down and talking quietly, just for the six legged mix's ears only ... in case it was some sort of... secret or something.
You're from the Club Court, aren't you?

Silas was quite taken aback and froze for quite a long moment at that. He didn't care so much that the other knew him, he cared MUCH more that he couldn't seem to place the Card. He didn't want to be rude, but was sure that he wouldn't have much choice. He hoped it wouldn't come off poorly. After all, if their positions were reversed, it would be much more likely for him to remember a six-legged mix with a tree growing out of its back. He really should get out more.
"I am, as a matter of fact. I hope to join the Court when I grow. Father says I could set a good example, which really excites me." He stopped himself, not wanting to share too much, both a lesson and an inclination he had gotten from Elias. "I'm sorry, but I don't think I've seen you around the Court." He said that a bit apologetically.

Monte didn't argue with Donovan's hiss about his clumsiness; he hadn't meant to fall down anyway. Fortunately for him, however, the attention had shifted to the very nice Silas. Donovan turned to listen in as well, which meant that Monte had just been given a pardon; or, at least, a get out of jail until later card. He tried not to worry his lip, though his ears tilted forward curiously at the skunk hybrid's response to the Lowlander mix's recognition.
Donovan listened in shamelessly. So. . . it sounded like this Silas was rather important back at the Court of Clubs. He wasn't necessarily very high ranked just yet, but it certainly would behoove him to cultivate this relationship. Anything to get him out from under the influence of his family. "Set a good example?" Donovan asked with just the right amount of curiousity. He mentally blessed the retarded Lowlander mix for bringing this to his attention. "How so?"

So he was right? Well... he certainly loved that! He swished his tail a bit more and grinned like a fool, even after the boy acknowledged the fact that he hadn't seen him around before ... which was ok cause he'd not seen the boy before either .... otherwise this wouldn't be their first meeting, he simply wouldn't be able to pass up the opportunity to meet someone like him.
I've just heard you be mentioned before, you're description is a bit unique ... I bet you've met my papa though.
At the mention of the older canine his tail picked up it's pace a bit more, his papa was most definitely his favorite person, and he met the most interesting people when he was around him to boot ... although Aderlass was certainly the most interesting of said people.
He glanced briefly at the other boy when he asked his questions before setting his gaze back on Silas, curious as well. He wanted to eventually join the courts as well, but even he was aware of the fact that he was far from ready to do so ...

Silas wasn't sure how much of Father's plans were secret, or how much he was supposed to have heard, but he did know that he could maybe spread some of the ideas about shared responsibilities and paperwork and such, starting with these people. Maybe it wouldn't sound as boring coming from him as it did when adults talked about it.
"Well, one thing Father noticed is that with so few Queens in the Courts, and so few Kings under them, there's a lot of work that everyone has to do, with a lot of Cards lower ranked not having jobs. But he says that not all the things people come to them with need to be handled by the Queens, or even the Kings. So he says that maybe a lot of responsibility for less important things can be delivered - no - delegated to other Cards that want to work their way up in the courts. Then they'll be better prepared when they show up for their quests to join. Then I guess the only thing people have to worry about is a mean Queen who doesn't know how the Courts to work to fight his way in and take over. But Father says no system is perfect.
"Anyway, Father says I should learn a lot of the lower level paperwork and things and work my way up before I apply to Queen Aderlass for a position, so that I can know the job and show people who well it can work. And, hopefully it will make Clubs more respectable, too."
((sorry about the total repost, I didn't see anything on the same page when I responded for some reason))

Paperwork? The boy wanted to set a good example by doing paperwork? It sounded boring, and mind-numbing, and terribly, terribly normal. Donovan wanted in. His little otter ears perked up and he eyed Silas with continued interest. "That sounds like a great idea, Silas," the tri-region said slyly. "Do you think your dad would let other kids come in and help as well? I think that'd be a great way to emphasize each member's responsibility in the Court."
Really that was a big load, but he was desperate for something normal to cling to. Heavens knew his family couldn't give that to him.
Monte stared at his brother with some confusion, though he tried to pretend he wasn't baffled since he'd messed up some of Donovan's plans by questioning him before. Still, Donovan had never mentioned an interest in the Courts previously; why was he suddenly so keen on the idea now?

He kept his head tilted to the side a bit as he listened, red lined ears fully forward and a goofy little grin plastered to his muzzle. As boring of a prospect as it actually was he was intrigued. However, the fact that paperwork was, for the most part, horrifically boring was presently lost on him. No, the part that caught his attention was about helping Aderlass, that's exactly what he wanted to do too! Well, that and help out his papa as well. Or, well ... that's what his mind took from the conversation, and it got his flame colored tail to start thumping out an ecstatic beat against the sidewalk once more.
Maybe you could show me how to?
It was getting exceptionally hard for him to sit still and he started to dance a little on his front paws, wanting nothing more then a good session of play .... but that was going to happen and he just... had to ride it out, no matter how much he wanted to pounce the six legged boy and gnaw cheerfully on him.

Silas eyed both of the kids suspiciously, but puffed up with pride for his father's unexpectedly good idea. In truth, he hadn't been looking forward to it because whenever Father did paperwork all he did was sit at his desk, read, and sometimes mumble about how stupid people were before getting out the red ink and scribbling on whatever he was reading.
"I'm positive that help would be welcome, especially from other Suits, if you know any that want to help. Father said that he wants to start the idea at the Court of Clubs and show the other Suits how well the idea works, so that it might pick up. I guess it follows that if the kids start doing the work and being responsible, the older cards will want to join in." He eyed the cards shrewdly; he'd never met anyone his age who wanted to volunteer for that work. "What makes you so interested?" he asked them all.

Donovan tossed his blue-speckled head up and rolled his lavender eyes in a very equine manner. What kind of question was that? Silas was a bit quicker than he expected, especially next to both the Lowlander and Monte. He needed to impress the young Jack of Clubs.
Monte shifted uncomfortably, his right leg trying to twitch against his binding. "Uhm. . . I'm not a Club. And. . . I don't really like. . . paperwork." Towards the end of his sentence he realized that Donovan was sending him a very dark and angry look and his head dropped lower and his words trailed off; so much so that it might be difficult to know exactly what he had said.
The mostly otter made certain his brother was full shut up before trying to repair the damage. "Of course it would be great to encourage adults to really take their responsibilities seriously, but it also seems important to get a foot into the door early. I've heard the Courts are very competitive."

Red lined ears flipped back to sit lightly against his skull when Donovan flashed that look at Monte.... by the stars why was he being so utterly rude to his own sibling. his brother? The thought made him just the slightest bit angry, he loved his own brother and the equine kept making him think of the weird, fluffy triple-breed that was waiting for either Vesper of himself to get home. But... oh! That's right .... Silas asked a question didn't he?
He might not have been the brightest bird in the bush but, well.... he was fairly certain the otter looking boy had somewhat skipped answering the question. Well, maybe the boy had done it in a way he didn't understand... whatever, he'd just have to give his own answer now.
Well, I wanna be more help to papa and Ader... lass... his Majesty.
He coughed, slightly uncomfortable at his little flub. Really, he felt comfortable around the Queen and that made him slip into a a level of familiarity he still wasn't certain if he was aloud to have or not. Papa was papa and calling him 'his highness' just wasn't happening ... at least not at this present point in time.
Once he got his composure back he wagged his tail cheerfully some more.
They've been rather kind and supportive thus far.
There, he'd managed to sound at least mildly intelligent that time around.
