From the fact that he appeared to have been eating garbage earlier, it didn't surprise the skunk in the least that he wouldn't be able to choose from the menu; he probably didn't know what the names meant, poor thing.
The fact that he could not read never occurred to her; the concept was simply too foreign.
"Well, then, let's just order a few things. . . " the skunk said quietly, and quickly listed off a few types of sandwiches, a pot of the tea, some water on the side for Tavor, and instructions to return after their meal to order dessert.
"They have wonderfully good service here," she informed the boy softly, letting her eyes slip around the room once. She didn't recognize anyone, which was fine. Now, however, she wasn't really certain what to talk about. The woman lapsed into silence.

He glanced over at the waitress again briefly before redirecting his gaze down onto the table, ears twitching every now and again as he listened. He caught a few things that sounded ... interesting to say the least, but he honestly didn't know what most things were, although he'd probably have had a few from digging around in the trash cans. People could be surprisingly wasteful and he sometimes found almost whole half sandwiches ... those were good days.
however it seemed that neither of them were really excellent conversationalists but the silence was a little... awkward, and he shifted a bit in his seat before slowly bringing his gaze up from the table over to her. He twitched his feather tipped tail a bit, thinking. This whole ... social thing was difficult but he felt he needed to say ... something, anything.
So ... do you .... c-come here... often?
Lame, but it was something.

The skunk thought about this question for a moment. "Well, no, not too terribly often." She would have stopped there, but the poor child was looking just as awkward as she felt. She thought about it for a long moment and finally tried to press on in the conversation. "You see, I'm not often in this part of town. I'm usually at work or at the embassy." Oh, dear, that sounded a bit high-minded. She flushed.
"It was just. . .good luck that I happened to be here in time to meet you." She was talking too much. She cleared her throat uneasily and glanced hopefully for the waitress. She was fortunate to spot their waitress returning with a tray. "Oh, look. Here she comes."
Their server quickly set out a pot of tea and a platter of sandwiches before retreating again. "Go ahead and take some sandwiches, Tavor. I'll pour the tea."
