Rhiannon blinked. She could see the look of confusion that passed over the boy's face, and for a moment she was completely lost - had she done or said something wrong? She glanced back down at the gleaming weapon, sending him a questioning expression before taking her paw away from the gentle stroking, preparing to send him back to wherever it was that he went to when he wasn't in this world - most likely back into the deep corners of her own mind.
The only warning that she got as to what was about to happen was the weapon twitching of its own accord in her paws, shining blade slicing through the air with an alarming hiss. She let out a startled yelp as Apocalypse's enraged cry rang out in her mind, quickly calling the weapon off.
She quickly moved to the young canine, looking his red coat over closely. Had he been struck? Apocalypse seemed rather pleased with himself, though Rhiannon was horrified. "What was that for?![/b]" she exclaimed, shock and anger in her voice. "Did you see the way he was looking at you?[/i] the weapon replied smugly. "Clubs should know their place in the world, and that little sonofabitch was looking at you like your were insane. I'm just defending your honor, Rhiannon, something which you seem extremely unconcerned with.[/i]"
Rhiannon's ears stung. He was right - the child had been giving him a strange look, but was attacking him necissary? And the outright hatred towards the boy's suit... it didn't surprise her, but she sure hadn't been expecting it. "Casanova, did he hurt you? I'm so, so sorry... I have no idea why he did that.[/b]"

He was just starting to relax his expression, prepared to shrug off the oddness of it all and just ... let things be when something shiny was suddenly launching ... it's self? in his direction. He let out a yelp of surprise and once again fell flat on his back, this time though ....he tucked his tail between his legs, tucked his hind legs in and covered his eyes with his front paws. He hadn't meant to make her angry! He didn't know that just a look could make someone react that way.
The fact that the exclamation of shock and anger wasn't aimed at him went right over his head and he whimpered softly, trying not to let the tears that threatened to leak from his eyes do so .... and failing miserably. He was officially glad his siblings weren't here to see him crying in a submissive pose .... they'd tease him for all of eternity if they did.
And then she was talking again and confusing him further .... could objects really act on their own accord? He didn't know, didn't think he really wanted to know .... and the only answer he could really give was another pathetic little whimper ... suits he hoped she didn't attack him or something ....

Oh, suits, the boy was beyond terrified. She couldn't see any injuries, but with his bright red coat that didn't exactly surprise her. Apocalypse had gone very quiet in her mind, and that was a good thing - she really didn't want to deal with his gloating as she tried to calm the puppy that cowered like a pathetic lump before her. She let out a soft and urgent whine as she looked the boy over, her large ears flicking back slightly. What was she supposed to do? She knew how she would calm her own children, but this boy wasn't hers, and she was the cause of his fear.
It couldn't hurt to give it a shot, though.
Rhiannon moved close, gently nuzzling the boy with her long snout, making a soft and soothing noise. "Shhh, shh, there's no need to cry,[/b]" she whispered, slitted yellow pupils as soft as they could be. "The ground is not worthy of your tears, save them for one who deserves them. Did he hurt you, Nova?[/b]"

She was ... going to eat him, wasn't she? Momma had warned him there were cards that did that but he never thought he'd run into one! At the first feeling of her snout touching him he went from a pathetic lump to a trembling pathetic lump and tucked his tail in closer to his body before he realized that the noises she was making ... well, they didn't really fit the profile for what he thought a puppy eating card would sound like.
Slowly he slid one paws down the side of his muzzle, peering out at her with one misty orange orb. She seemed genuinely concerned about his safety .... and continued to insist that the scythe was it's own entity .... so he just let himself believe that. Well, for the most part. Her first question seemed to have gone right over his head in his pursuit of curiosities.
S-so he does .... talk to you?
He involuntarily sniffed after that comment and it was rather embarrassing, but it did make him move his other paw away from his eye ... even if it was to try and wipe the tears off of his cheeks. He was .... not all that frightened anymore.
That's .... awesome! I don't know anyone else who can do that!
Although his tail was still tucked, loosely now, he couldn't help but wiggle it a bit, his expression doing an almost complete turn around from mere moments ago. This concept was just ... to impressive to not lock his mind onto.

The sight of the orange eye was a hopefuly one, and Rhiannon allowed her tail to wag slightly, hoping to speed the process of his calming down. She gave him a small smile, nudging him again with her nose. Would he say anything to her? She hoped he would, just to set her mind at ease - she would be beyond pissed off at the scythe if the boy had been seriously injured.
...Well. That was an unexpected turn of conversation. It was as if the weapon's attack had been completely forgotten, rather serving to cement his status as a sentient being in the lad's head. Rhiannon blinked, guessing that the boy was completely uninjured, and Apocalypse laughed in the back of her head, sounding rather pleased with himself. "See? I earned us some respect. Not so bad, is it?[/i]"
She nodded in return to his question. "He does... And sometimes, when I dream, I can see him.[/b]" she wouldn't tell the boy about the other things, but it seemed she had found a way to try and keep the boy entertained without risking having the scythe actually summoned. "It is kinda cool, isn't it?[/b]" she mused, not wanting to say too much and risk the scythe getting a bigger ego than he already had. "I've never met anyone who can, myself, but the old Queen of Hearts had an axe that was the same... Except she could even walk around, and she looked just like a Card.[/b]"

Really? I don't even remember mine.
He relaxed his limbs and his tail untucked soon after, thumping the ground softly once more as he continued to lay on his back, front paws resting on his chest and his expression of intrigue growing with everything she said. However, he hadn't quite grasped the fact that this was something only Hearts could do, thus the idea intrigued him further.
He nodded at her question before he rolled over onto his belly and wiggling his wings a bit, his gaze on her the entire time. When she mentioned the summon of the former Queen, his ears perked forward even more. That was just .... the coolest thing he'd ever heard of.
They can look like cards, really?
His tail beat a faster rhythm out against the ground, his little toes twitching in excitement ... but, as most children do, he lacked enough tact to keep his next question quiet. It had the potential to be sensitive.
Why doesn't Pale look like a card?
He tilted his head to the side in a manner that was entirely canine, even if the gesture had gotten him turned into a ball of frightened puppy the last time he did it.

For whatever reason, that struck Rhiannon as being almost sad. Before Apocalypse had come into her life her dreams had often been extremely unpleasant, sometimes even terrifying... but the thought of not having anything to remember them by at all just struck her as strange and almost unnerving. Her ears twitched slightly. She should be thankful that the topic of conversation had shifted away from the scythe which had so cheerily leapt from her hands in an attempt to eviscerate the poor boy.
She nodded at his first question, the slightest glimmer of a grin crossing her face once more. "That's what I've heard, yes...[/b]" she said, then narrowed her eyes slightly and glanced around. If she could make this seem more exciting, she would do so eagerly - anything to keep the boy off of the fact that a part of her had attacked him. "Except... I've also heard that they don't have a suit marking.[/b]" she touched her chest as she said this.
Apocalypse chuckled in her mind. "What do you expect? She's an axe, not a Card.[/i]"
Casanova's second question was a little harder to answer, and Rhiannon's brows furrowed. Normally, she would try and make something up to make herself look smarter, but she was unwilling to lie to the boy for some reason. "I'm not sure,[/b]" she replied, hoping the scythe would provide her with some kind of answer. He was, of course, silent - he didn't know either, if he did he would probably be standing along side of them. "My uncle is a powerful mage, though, so I'm going to talk to him about it as soon as I can.[/b]"

Oh ...
The disappointment in his voice was obvious, but he wasn't surprised that she didn't know. After all, logic suggested that if she knew... the scythe would already have one and, well .... he wouldn't have had the opportunity to ask, would he? However, the rest of her answer made him perk up all over again, it really wasn't hard to interest this particular puppy. Even if he didn't know what one of those were ...
You know a mage?
His tail thumped excitedly before he paused, his head tilting to the other side.
What's a mage?
She didn't really need to distract the puppy out of the thought that her scythe had attacked him, he was the sort that was rather difficult to keep down and he'd already pushed the little incident to the back of his mind. Besides, he had a feeling she was going to be telling him something else terribly interesting as well. 'Mage' just seemed like such a .... nifty word, it had to be something interesting, it just had to be.

The hybrid girl laughed openly at the puppy's enthusiasm. He was a bundle of energy, that was a given, but he was also seemingly packed to the brim with surprises for her. Of all the things that she had said, she never would have guessed that her knowing Bernard would be the most interesting fact to the firey-toned puppy. She couldn't help but grin, her tail beginning to wag as well. "That's right,[/b]" she replied, quirking a brow. "We're not techincally related, but he helped raise me and is a very good friend of my parent's.[/b]"
She froze at the next comment, staring at the puppy with a confused expression. Her tail slowed its wagging, and then she laughed again, face splitting into a wildly amused expression. This child was a hoot and a half!
"A mage is a person who specializes in magic,[/b]" she explained patiently. It reminded her quite a bit of her own children, who she was beginning to miss... "They know quite a bit about the workings of the world, and can often help others increase their own magical ability. It was my uncle Bernard who helped me get Pale in the first place.[/b]"
