He was a rather polite guest, and not very demaninding.... at least he hoped so anyway, and he was waiting patiently even though he was quite eager to begin .... even if it was just to see the results. Actually, now that he thought about it, he was a little disappointed that he'd opted to leave his spear at home today. Ah well, there'd be plenty of time in the future to use it and then he'd be able to poison it himself at that! Wonderful.
He perked at the mention of a specific spider and, if his thoughts were correct, he'd spent a great deal of his free time watching them in the marsh. That little brush of a tail he had wiggled a bit again and he couldn't quite contain his little squeak like noise.
My apologies .... I just ... couldn't resist. We have plenty of fishers in the marsh and I must say .... they're wonderful creatures.

Jarvis's squeak caught both Ophelia and Mephitisia mildly off guard and the two women turned to peer at the rodent. Well, that was mildly unexpected. Ophelia was the first to smile and she nodded quietly as he spoke. So he was familiar with fisher spiders? Good, then he wouldn't have any problem with having a genetic mix with one.
"Wonderful! Then we have our foundations set! You're aware of the risks and what not associated with genetic manipulation, am I correct? Unexpected results, discomfort as your body settles into the resulting changes?" The doe stepped forward a little, grinning warmly. "And, of course, paying up front?" This she upheld a bit more than the rest. She didn't want anyone backing out of her due payment just because they didn't get the entire set of expected results.
Mephit stood back for this bit, allowing her mother to handle the 'intricate business details'. It was her business after all, and while Mephit was sure she'd get a cut of it she didn't really care either way... Just so long as she got to leave her mark on the experiment.

He stilled the excited movements of his little tail as the green and black doe got down to the final bit of business talk. His ears twitched forward as he listened, but it was all things he'd heard and thought about before. This wasn't a spur of the moment decision no, this was something he'd wanted since he was little and saw his first snake. Somewhere along the road his interests had shifted from serpents to arachnids, but that didn't seem to bother either of the doe's in the least.
Ah, yes ... I've thought about the possible side effects for quite awhile now, but the benefits of this far out weigh the risks ... at least in my opinion.[SD0]
He wiggled his little tail again and grinned as she brought up payment, oh yes... he'd come prepared for that and tapped his bag with a couple of his claws.
I even brought you extra ... in case you saw me even without an appointment.
He opened the bag and fished around in it for a moment before he found what he was looking for and brought out the smaller draw-string bag, which jingled in his grasp. He held his paw out toward Ophelia, offering her the payment he'd brought.
And if you need anything in the future from the Marsh, I'd be happy to bring here for you.

Ophelia was pleased.
She liked someone that knew what they wanted and then went and got it. Jarvis appeared to be one of those sorts. Well prepared, possessing decent knowledge of the experiment about to take place...and more than ready to take that risk for what he wanted, or needed.
"Very good, Jarvis. You seem to be quite prepared, which helps me a lot as well. Keep the extra, though. We can make you an appointment now." All of this was perfect, saved her from having to fill him in as well. "Is there a specific time that would be good for you? Or would you have a couple of days now? We can start the experiment today, while I have my daughter's assistance, then I'll need you nearby overnight while I make sure everything is settling properly."
Not to mention she liked to know the exact results of her experiments.
Mephitisia smirked briefly, pleased. She hoped he'd go with the option of starting today... Being a part of this experiment already sounded like fun.

A little bit of disappointment flitted through his mind when she spoke of making an appointment, but it didn't make it's way to his expression. He had half expected it after all, but he did noticeably perk at the offer of starting things today and he grinned, the tips of his fangs making a small appearance.
Well, if you're offering ... I do have a few days to spare. I'm on my vacation actually. He chuckled a bit at that, what a thing to do on your leave from work right? Head to corvistowne and get some work done ... but hey, this is what he wanted and it was about the only convenient time to do such a thing. Especially if something happened to go wrong and she needed a bit more of his time for whatever reason. But he felt comfortable leaving the experiment in her hands, she did have quite the good reputation after all. He didn't know about her daughter, but if the older doe had faith in her he didn't have any reason to doubt her either.

Ophelia smiled warmly, clasping her hands together firmly.
"Wonderful! Then, if you would, please come along with me and I'll get you settled in one of the rooms while Mephit and I prepare the materials we'll need."
Rising up out of her chair, Ophelia beckoned for Jarvis to follow as she made her way to the laboratory door.
Mephit followed behind more slowly. She had to admit a vague amount of curiosity for Ophelia's work. She hadn't directly watched Ophelia with one of her official experiments before, so it would be a learning experience at best.
And Mephit would get to add a bit of her knowledge to the experience.
Once Jarvis was behind them, Ophelia led them both down the stairwell to the lab beneath the house. Everything was a lot more high-tech here than the room above, and immaculately clean. This was Ophelia's pride and joy, and she flaunted it proudly when she brought people with her.

He followed along behind in that funny little walk rodents had, little banded brush tail swaying ever so slightly as he moved. As they moved further down and he started to see that things looked far more... professional and put together he felt a little bit of nervousness creep into his form. Just some butterflies really ... so he wasn't about to say anything to halt the process. He'd been thinking this over for... how long now? Months really. He wanted this, he wasn't going to let a few little butterflies stop him. Besides, he'd heard good things about Ophelia so ... no worries.
He did exactly as he was told as well and settled himself into one of the rooms the doe used for her patients ... or were they more like customers? He wasn't sure what they, and himself, would be labeled as but it really didn't matter did it? No... just silly little thoughts to keep his mind busy as he waited for the pair of them to be done with the preparations.

Work was surprisingly quick with an assistant like Mephit. Ophelia and her 'daughter' had never been exceptionally close, in fact they probably hated each other to some degree, but both were surprised at how well they worked together despite varying ethics, morals, and general emotional capacity.
Mephit had some intriguing tweaks as well and, in the end, the venom that they concocted for Jarvis was more potent than Ophelia had planned but nevertheless entirely well-done.
The mutations that sprouted toward the end were a bit unexpected by both parties, but working with insect genetics was extremely hard. Ophelia had never gotten to study an insect first hand, either, so that didn't help in the least. Hopefully Jarvis would not be too offput... He knew the risks, after all.
In the end, Mephit could really care less for the hamster's mutations. As fascinating as they were, they were his problem and not hers. Waking the hamster up after his induced sleep of the last many hours was also Ophelia's problems. "Once he's stable and all that, I want to see what his venom's capable of and then I'll be done here."
Ophelia nodded, waved her daughter off, and switched the sleeping drug he was being fed to one that would begin waking him up. Most of the time she made sure her patients came out feeling clear-headed even if they were physically a bit shaky, but she let his consciousness come back a bit slower. He would need the time to process his changes without panicking. "Be careful when you move," she warned once he started to stir, "you'll be a bit groggy."

The whole ordeal went rather quickly for him, the time between when his eyes finally shut and his consciousness drifted off until now had seemed so very short. It had been a dreamless blackness, and that had probably contributed to his mind turning hours into moments, but.... suits was he groggy now. The first little movements he made were twitches in his ears, tail and toes, followed by more twitching in his ears when he heard Ophelia's voice. He mutter something entirely incoherent as he tried open his eyes, finding it difficult at first.
Finally he managed to open them, blinking quite a few times to make things at least a little clear. It was then that he made the move to stretch, his limbs tingling a bit from staying in one spot so long .... and he unknowingly started to stretch the new four as well. He paused when his minds prodding that something wasn't right finally made it through the haze. He didn't remember having anything growing from those points... much less anything that could move.
He stayed still until he felt his mind was clear enough to investigate this strangeness a little further and he tried it again ... and he got the same bizarre sensation all over again. He flipped one ear back ever so slightly as he turned his head to see for himself and he was... instantly greeted by a pair of limbs that definitely were not his... or, at least ... they hadn't been before. Olive eyes widened a bit as he realized that those were... most definitely, ... spider legs.
W-what...?
