The idea had always been there, of course; he was, quite obviously, the family's only saviour. Things had been spiralling slowly out of control for years, but when one was just a tiny child there was very little one could to improve the situation. All of that, however, was finally about to change. He had a stroke of brilliance, and he was going to start making things right. "Keep ahold of him, Monte," Donovan ordered as he glanced once more to make sure the hallway was clear before slithering out to lead the way. Montenegro gave a small, worried sigh, glancing at his other brother. "Sorry, Gallump," he said quietly. "I don't know what--" "HIS NAME IS INDI," Donovan snarled from around the corner and Monte winced in response. The tri-region was exceedingly sensitive on the matter of names. "Yes, sorry, Indi--" "Let's go." Donovan's voice was short and his tone firm and giving neither brother the chance to argue.

"Heeeeeeeeeyy where we gooiinngg guys? Huh huh?" Indivar questioned incessantly, his high-pitched excitement easily bouncing off the walls around him. He was excited to be included, as usual; any game he got to play with his brothers was awesome. Usually he was relegated to trying to follow Lilac, but sometimes Mari took pity on him and would let him help sew or something. Not that sewing was anywhere near as exciting as games!! "Are we playing king of the hill? Am I the KING?! Are you taking me to safety so I don't get caught?!?" The mix kept going, wriggling in his wonderful idea of their supposed-game. "Is Mari the evil king? Or is Lilac? I bet it's Lilac! She's so good at that game! Is it Lilac guys, huh huh is it?"

Monte's ears twisted backwards uneasily; he loved all of his siblings, but normally he was pulled to 'play' with Donovan. Which wasn't actually playing, it was usually running errands for the older boy. Donovan wasn't exactly the playful type, not like Indivar, at least. Monte was surprised to discover that he was used to Donovan's manner and not to Indi's.
Still, he had a bad feeling about Donovan's plan and he wasn't entirely certain how to let the oddly-footed child know that he might be better off finding their sisters.
"Yes, fine," Donovan answered distractedly. Haha! They made it to the front door. "But if anyone's the evil king it's our father."
"Daddy?" Monte asked in surprise. The teal King was hardly evil. Highly distracted, but not evil.
Donovan sent him a withering glare and the colt shrunk back from the look. "Come on, Indi, we're getting you to safety now."

Indivar noted the fact that the two weren't in complete agreement, but chalked it up to the fact that maybe they weren't sure about including him in the game. Monte was usually pretty nice about it, but Donovan tended to only let him join in when he had to be the pauper or something.
But Donny-- Donovan said he was King! So obviously they wanted him to play! It didn't make sense otherwise, right?
"Sweeeeeeeet!" Indi chorused, happily bouncing between the boys. "Daddy?" He repeated dubiously, but shrugged. He would be the evil king if it meant he didn't have to chase after Lilac or something. "Okay!"
The boy abruptly adopted a very high-and-mighty demeanor, and began walking at a sedate snail pace in order to look as regal as he knew how. Which wasn't very much, but he was obviously lacking a cape..

Unaware of Indi's sudden enthusiasm for the game-- though, Rivers and Hills help him, he should have guessed that his eldest brother was going to be a moron about the whole idea-- Donovan hurried on ahead and was almost a full block ahead of his siblings before they even got all the way out of the door.
Uncertain of how to deal with the break-up of their party, Monte lingered behind, closer to Indi's regal walk than Donovan's hurrying pace, and still not really sure of which one he should stick closer to. Because their 'game' was centered around Indivar, Monte finally deemed it wiser to stick closer to the blue boy rather than their more aggressive brother.
"Now, look, we'll find a big park and start there," Donovan began to explain, just knowing that his two brothers needed all the help they could get. He turned to make sure there was some light of understanding to discover that no one was behind him. Oh, *&$$.
"Uhm. . . maybe we. . . should hurry a bit?" Monte suggested hesitantly.

Indivar glanced over at Monte, and immediately became anxious at the boy's expression. Was he doing something wrong? Was he not being a good king? Kings were supposed to look cool, right? Obviously with his mismatched legs it was difficult to walk period, but he did his best. He just outstretched his forelegs some more for a more regal, pompous looking-walk.
Apparantly that wasn't good enough though.
What else could he do? They hadn't given him any props.. ACCENT. He could speak in a Highlander accent! Those guys were really royal, weren't they?
He opened his mouth to speak, but abruptly closed it when Monte hesitantly spoke. "... Faster?" He repeated, an expression of obvious confusion on his face. "But no one's chasing us yet! And I'm supposed to be walking slowly like a king and you guys didn't give me any props.." He trailed off.

"Oh. Props?" Monte echoed in semi-bewilderment before he remembered that the girls usually did have crowns and things. Right. His face screwed up slightly in thought; they didn't have any props; Donovan didn't really believe in toys. Well, not in playing with them, anyway. He was a bit too serious and concerned with what everyone thought of him. Either way, it didn't really matter. The tri-region boy was hustling back to them with a dangerous glint in his eye.
"What's the matter with you?" he snarled at his two brothers as he reached them. He moved behind them and began to push urgently. "We need to get out of sight of the house!"
"But, Donovan, he doesn't have a crown or anything." Monte was a bit wary of pointing this out, but it needed to be done if they were going to play.
"What?" the question was almost threatening.

"Yeah..." Indivar muttered in a whiny tone, "Props. I can't be king if I don't look like one.. am I doing this right, Monte? Am I? Donny seems mad and I don't want him to be mad at me I just want to play and and and--" Confused, he began sniffling, but could only stare in bewilderment when the tri began pushing the two of them out of the house.
"Is Daddy coming, is that why we're in such a hurry?" He asked quietly, not wanting to further envoke the rage lying behind his brother's eyes.
At the second mention of props and Donovan's less-than-enthuiastic reaction, he went silent, and just watched the exchange.

Donovan took a moment to suck in a deep breath meant to soothe, then slowly released it again. Fine. He could handle this. He opened his eyes to stare at their eldest brother-- though the child didn't act like it, poor thing, and Donovan certainly had theories about that-- and very calmly spoke. "Of course you don't have a crown right now, Indi. The evil king stole it. We need to get you to safety before we can plan on how to get it back. Now, you're the king of speed, aren't you? You're going to have to keep up with your bodyguards. Okay?" The last word came out a bit more threatening than he meant it to, but it was the best he could do with his current level of annoyance.
Monte stared at the tri-region in amazement. That was probably the nicest thing he'd ever seen the otter mix do. Wow, he hadn't thought Donovan could even come up with a play story.

"Daddy stole my crown?" He asked, one eyebrow risen. "Why would he do that before the game's even started? Sheesh, that's weird, okay." He squared up in the face of Donovan's obvious attempts to be nice, though Indi really didn't comprehend why he had to be so mean in the first place, but whatever. He wasn't going to cry about it. He wasn't.
"Okay. Okay, I can be fast.." He said, though he wanted to point out that Kings walked slowly. Maybe Donny wanted to play a fast version of king of the hill.. Indivar wasn't up to asking any questions though, so stood up tall and prepared to follow them as best as he could. His legs were bound to hinder him - speed was not his thing - but he would try.
