The woman's ears flicked backwards suddenly, something the boy would miss since he wasn't looking back. It was probably just as well, since something undefinable slipped briefly across her features at the Jack's explanation. It would be simple for Kieran or Pale to see something there that may or may not actually be in the woman's head.
"Yes, you could say that I have a Queen," the woman answered lightly, though it was unlikely she would continue down that particular line of questioning. "Does your mother enjoy being her majesty Xiven's King?" the woman asked instead.
Drostan suddenly bared his teeth at the human, as though to condemn the man's judgement of Aces. "We're not all idiots," he snapped, and there was a dark implication to his words.
Dre lofted a brow briefly at the man. 'Not familiar with this world'? What in the world was that supposed to mean. Rather than ask, however, she waited to see what else he might volunteer.

"That's good," Kieran replied, a smile shining brightly in his voice. He liked the strange winged woman. She was so full of cheer, she was making his belly feel full and round, much better than it had felt for a while. Everyone here seemed so sad, and he missed his papa terribly. But Dierdre didn't know about any of that, she was just filled with a positive energy and it shone through.
He had to think about that question a moment. "I think she must like it quite a lot," he replied slowly, considering his words carefully. He didn't want to talk like his sister, Sa. She stumbled so badly over her words when she wasn't sure of something! "It's an awful lot of work so I think if she didn't like it, she wouldn't do it anymore. And Xiven's the mama of my half-siblings."
That must be a sign that his mother liked Xiven, at the very least. Liking your Queen was important if you were going to be King to them.
In return, the human showed his teeth, which were far more pointed than they should have been, resembling the jagged teeth of a shark more than anything else. "Clearly." he replied, sounding amused. "Since some of you have decided to lower yourselves to being pets to avoid whatever it is you have waiting for you among the rest of society." His teeth still showed through his amused smirk. He wasn't really aware of the fact that what he'd said might sound weird - after all, he had been under the impression that Hearts were used to summoned weapons!

Dre was quite pleased to hear that Kieran's mother enjoyed her work; she didn't actually know anyone who disliked being titled in the Court, but she thought there must be one somewhere. Of course, if they didn't like it, they could just leave. It was a simple solution.
"Oh, you have half-siblings? Are they near your age?" She was curious since her father had a great number of half-siblings who were young enough to be her children, assuming she was married already. Which she wasn't, though she had great hopes for soon.
Drostan glanced up at his mistress, but with her part of the conversation done, the falcon hybrid seemed to now be ignoring the two "non-people". Fine, he would just defend himself. "You seem to be mistaken about most of our roles in life," the Ace growled back, trying to pretend that perhaps he wasn't utterly uncomfortable by those sharp, sharp teeth. "We did not choose to become pets."

Kieran began to purr as they neared the kitchen, pausing to turn his masked snout around the doorway. Perhaps it would be considered strange that his purr would be audible as they walked. That fact could easily be dismissed, however, as him having a slightly over-active purr-machine. He pulled his head back from the open doorway, turning it upwards in Dierdre's general direction. His tail gave a happy flick. "A little younger, but yeah. There's a lot of them... Not as many as my full-siblings, though. It's only me and my sister here now, but my papa's coming home with my other sister and my two brothers."
He turned back to the doorway. There didn't seem to be anyone guarding the kitchen right now... It looked like a good opportunity for them to sneak in. "I can see the brownies..." he said, sounding a little wistful. "I think they're too high up for me to reach, though."
No choice in becoming pets? The scythe snorted slightly. No, the mustelid must have had some sort of a choice. "If you hate being a pet so much, why are you one?" he mused, stroking his chin with a strange sort of non-challance. "You have intelligence and the ability to speak for yourself, which is more than any Ace I've ever met... You clearly have free will... So why do you chain yourself to this life, hmm? Is it because you know the alternative is much less... comfortable?"
He grinned, exposing all of his teeth once more.

Dre was impressed to hear about all of Kieran's siblings, half or full. It sounded as though they could perhaps give her father's ten other siblings (half and full) a bit of a run for their money. She was distracted, however, by the pleasant sight and smell of brownies. "Fortunately," she said brightly. "I am not only here but more than willing to help retrieve the required brownies."
With that said, she cheerily tripped right into the kitchen, glancing around for the staff here that she knew. Oddly, they mostly appeared to be out. How very strange. Still, opportunity did not wait for the meek-hearted. Dre nabbed two plates and quickly piled a few pieces on each plate. That should be more than enough for everyone involved in their party.
Drostan's ears flattened angrily. "Because it's this or I'd be DEAD. Which alternative would you prefer?" The Ace was not happy with this conversation.

Kieran's face turned up at her, ears held high, tail wagging and paws kneading the floor with delight. If he had a mouth to smile with, it would be absolutely beaming at this point. When she returned, brownies in hand, he reared up slightly on his hind legs. She had certainly grabbed quite the pile of brownies, hadn't she? "You'll come meet my mother, right?" he asked, knowing he'd asked already but feeling suddenly nervous that she'd rather enjoy the treat on her own. "Maybe you can meet my sister?"
There was a hopeful tone to his voice, a sweet little note of desire to spend more time with the wonderful woman.
"Freedom or death, my friend, freedom or death." Apocalypse replied, shaking his head slowly and a little sadly. "There is always another option... Make do. Don't be such an angry *&$%. Appreciate the fact that you are alive and you are protected, even if it isn't what you wanted or hoped for." the man leaned close, the pupils of his orange eyes mere slits, his casual grin vanishing in a flash and replaced by a slight sneer. "Learn to love your captivity, as I have, or accept that you've made your choice and deal with it. If you can't... Well.
He stood back again, shaking his hair from his face and turning to the two with the brownies. "Kieran, your mom's awake. We'd better hurry back."

(( ish suddenly reminded of her niece* xD; Kieran is adorable.* ))
Dre beamed down at the boy again. "Yes, we're to go bring your mother brownies now, right?" she asked cheerfully. "I don't see any reason we can't see your sister as well; we should have more than enough brownies for everyone." Which was a thought that pleased the woman greatly. Yes, it really was the perfect time for brownies. Her wings twitched with pleasure. Yum. "Will we need to stop for your sister or will she be with your mother?"
Drostan ground his teeth at the weapon's smug attitude, fighting the urge to bite the human somewhere inappropriate. But that was the feral in him trying to come out; it was spending months and years treated as an idiot and not a real person. Pale obviously didn't realize what it was like to have been a Real Person, with a loving, kind, thoughtful family who treated you like you were special and worthwhile. Drostan's heart clenched and he fought a need to cry. He didn't like to think about his wonderful family anymore. It hurt far, far too much.
Dre's head turned as Pale made his announcement, and her eyes slipped down to Drostan to check on him. He seemed unusually tense, even for him. She gently poked at his side with a taloned toe and he looked up at her with angry red eyes. Hrms. She sent the human a dark look before deliberately saying, "Perhaps, Pale, you should rejoin our conversation." There was a warning in her tone that it would really be best for everyone involved if he left the Ace alone for awhile.

The woman's words came as a reassurance of sorts, and the boy bounced at the woman's feet, his tail still swaying with excitement. Though he personally couldn't enjoy the brownies, he could enjoy the good feelings everyone was certain to give off while they ate them, and his expression absolutely glowed with joy. "She's with my mother now, so we can just go right back there," he responded easily.
When Pale spoke, the child looked up at the man with a bit of a worried expression. He had been mostly oblivious to the pet and the weapon until now, but his ears flicked back and he seemed to study the man's face for a long minute.
"Is she worried?" the human simply nodded in reply, glancing over his shoulder as if looking to see if someone was behind him. "She shouldn't be, tell her I'm okay." Kieran's tone took on an irritated quality. Why would his mother worry? He had Apocalypse with him (this fact was actually a cause of worry to the woman, who'd have thought?), and he had found a King! He was beyond safe, even if her pet was prickly and a bit... well, terrifying.
"I would love to," the weapon said in response to Dierdre, tone returning to a cheerful one. "However, I fear I will be called back at any moment, so I suppose I'll be meeting you back at her Majesty's room." he was right, of course, and his expression soured for the quickest of seconds before he vanished completely, called back to his summoner, no doubt.
Kieran giggled. "Uh-oh. That means mom's really worried. We should run quick before she heads out to find us," And with that the boy set off, bounding down the halls but... not as quickly as his words seemed to imply they should be moving. He didn't want his feet to hurt, after all.

Dre's ears twitched slightly in interest though she found it horribly interesting when the man vanished. Good. She tilted her head towards Kieran, and set her pace to his, though his desire to hurry and not quite so hurrying steps prompted her to point out with a smile, "Well, if Pale has been returned to her, then she knows you're fine, correct?" She didn't mind running sometimes, but it was brownie time right then, not running time. Obviously running would need to wait until later.
Drostan was relieved when the human disappeared, though the discussion made it apparent that they would be seeing the man again. Blast it all. He trotted after his mistress and her new friend without a word. He wanted to say that the man's talk hadn't bothered him, but it really did. He felt guilty for not choosing to die! That was retarded! He wouldn't choose to die just because someone didn't like how he was living his life.

The boy trotted along at a brisk pace that was swift for him and only a little faster than a normal walk for the two adults, tail waving like a flag behind him. " She might," he replied evenly. " Or she might be panicking because now I don't even have him with me and she doesn't know you. Mother is awfully protective... but that's okay. She just wants to make sure I'm safe." He rounded a corner and they passed by Dierdre's room, Kieran only glancing slightly at the door before continuing on. He was not expecting to crash nearly head-first with his mother, who rounded the corner ahead of them, moving at a much faster rate than their small brownie-wielding group. She was not followed, as one might have expected, by Pale - rather, a small bone-winged girl dashed after her, doing her best to keep up with her mother's long-legged strides. " Kieran![/b]" the elder coyote-hybrid exclaimed, nuzzling her son with a relief that only a mother could know. " Oh, I'm so glad you're alright... I was worried sick about you..[/b]" the King raised eerie slit-pupiled yellow eyes to the winged woman, seeming to consider her for a moment before taking a step away from her son. " Thank you for finding him for me,[/b]" she finally said to the woman, giving her a small and respectful bow as the full-blooded coyote finally joined the group. The girl peered nervously from the tall biped to the scarred mustelid, letting out a soft squeak before hiding behind her mother's legs. That Ace was scary..
