Loreta stared at the girl as she choked back laughter. Apparently she had been dropped on her head, or at the very least she was crazy. The heron could only wonder what was wrong with the girl medically. She almost felt bad laughing... almost. She choked on her laughter and ended up snorting instead.
"You weren't turned into a ninny. It's just something a person says when they're saying a person is stupid." Of course, the child would probably believe anything the heron said.
Or she could speak words of protest. The heron raised an eyebrow at the little canine in front of her. She had half a mind to to pop off the girl's tail with her power. That might cause a bit of a problem though. She didn't want to her to make a fuss.... more so than she already was.
"You. Are. Crazy." Loreta said flatly. Maybe the girl would get it.

The boulder suddenly seemed very small now that this other Card was here. At least when Mama was around she didn't make the teen feel any worse. Maybe that was what being safe really felt like: to feel comfortable enough in someone's presence that you trust that person not to frighten you even more. The concept of "being safe" was much to complex for the youth to understand in its entirety. She only grasped vague concepts of it. But whatever safe really was, this was definitely not it. Living a life in almost near seclusion with just her family and a few banders for company, she really didn’t know what to expect out of others. This whole experience was very new to her and she was beginning to get the impression that all strangers were bad for her health.
This one wasn’t like her mothers or sister. She seemed disconnected, harsh, something else. And when laughter spilled from her lips, the fox-hound cross felt it chill her straight to the bones. That wasn’t the type of laughter she was familiar with either. It was also strange, off key and held a sort of sinister undertone. In fact, the sound was more reminiscent of them than anything she’s ever seen so clearly… so vividly before. Usually they were fragments of shape and form… disjointed voices, motions, sounds, touches. But this woman, this Loreta felt as lively as her mother. Of course, that didn’t make Loreta any more or LESS real than the other type of influence; it merely made the half- Villa girl’s ability to compartmentalize her life the much more difficult. Now her two categories for the living had merged and she was at a loss. Neutral to somewhat benign and clear… physical, or Neutral-chaotic, frightening, evil and mysterious, in the shadows. What was happening?! Where they crossing over now? Was this one of the minions in larger form? Did they come to claim her? She whimpered again and just gave up, crouching as low as possible on the rock until she was completely flat upon it with her face somewhat angled towards the bird, but her eyes in a semi-state of focus. Zephyr’s not stupid. Her voice stated in a matter-of-fact way, slipping into an odd sort of third person. It wasn’t hysterical, confused, struggling or fearful. The words came out more smooth then jagged in a neutral, indifferent tone that was almost completely out of character for one that seemed to be so clumsy and painfully frightened moments before. Even her body looked motionless, almost dead. Perhaps the slightly sweet, though clearly childish voice was what she was suppose to sound like when not startled by the world around her, but then again… maybe it was something more. After a few seconds, the tail began twitching nervously again and those black ears folded backwards in a coward. What’s a binding? She whispered in a weary, almost tearful way that might have made a kind person want to hold her.

Loreta had long forgotten what it was like to be a sweet innocent child. She had no desire to keep those memories, and no reason to be kind to anyone but the two people she actually gave a damn about. Even her "friends" had to put up with her mean spirited ways. She couldn't help but be a mean sort of person. It was much easier that way. Life went by quicker. She gave the girl a rather annoyed look before transforming into her human form. It was probably the most hideous thing the child had ever had the pleasure of seeing as far as Loreta was concerned. People weren't supposed to have animal parts in their human for. A Lowlander leg just made everything worse. Not to mention it just made the rot worse. "A binding," she said clearly looking down at the girl with yellow eyes and a sadistic smirk. "Is something that holds you back. It's also punishment for an unspoken sin. And who hasn't sinned?"
