The feline was thoroughly confused by the route they were taking... apparently there was something wrong with the direct path? And what was up with that bell ringing? She shrugged it off as she followed the doe with Fluffy by her side and her weapon covered on her back along with her small bag of important odds and ends. Really, she should have thought about asking the carriage driver to stay.
But she had decided to do this on her own, no matter how bad of an idea it was. Her ears twitched when she heard the distant fight on the wind. So even a dreary place like this was filled with people who were willing to lash out at others.
She snapped back to reality when Helen spoke.... in something akin to a riddle. Was anyone normal in this place? "Odd dreams. Nothing in particular. Though I did dream of meeting a handsome prince who wasn't a complete idiot." If only men were as charming as they were in her dreams.

Finally she turned down a street and her bell remained silent, and so she continued along her path, guiding the pure Torquehelm woman through the streets. This town isn't the largest in existence, but it's certainly large enough for a backwater, middle-of-the woods, dreary Torquehelm town.
"There seems to be a routine brawl at the bar every evening," she said sleepily, apparently explaining the faint noises of the fight. "Not at the inn, because I think they did damage to it when they were in the same building, so the inn moved away so that customers could sleep soundly and rest up for the next night's combat." It was a coping mechanism for the curse that they all felt lay so heavily upon their shoulders, or at least so she thought.
There was a period of silence after what Xiven told her, almost as though Helen hadn't actually expected to get any sort of response at all. "A prince? I know of Queens and Kings, and of course the noble Jacks. Princes are mere creatures of myth and legend, though. No wonder you can find them only in dreams, idiots or not."

Her explanation didn't do much to sooth the feline's nerves. Fighting within meant that there was chaos that could easily overflow. Dealing with drunk people was a bad experience--as far as she knew. Then again the only person she had seen drunk was buzzed and ended up dead.
Xiven chuckled at the prince comment. "You have a point." She said with a smile, "But I meant that ideal Prince Charming that all the girl's dream about meeting. I wish he actually existed. Or I could find a man with some redeeming quality."
How many of those had she found? Not many. Her view of men had been tainted from birth. After all two of her half brother's were jerks to her. Then there was Lior who... tended to steal everyone's affection and left her high and dry. Men really did suck. Her nose scrunched up at the thought.
"Dreams and fairy tales, unfortunately will always be that," she muttered.

"The bar fights aren't bad," she said distantly. "Just listen for the bells to know when not to turn and- oh, right. You don't have bells, do you? You should get some." Bells were important, especially after she'd found her lovely little bell when she was young.
"I never dreamed of him," she said, and her voice was quiet, and almost sad. "Never-ever. Do you think he didn't like me? Didn't think I was worthy of him?" Lavender eyes turned to the full-blooded Torquehelm feline, seeking reassurance from the complete stranger that she'd volunteered to guide through the town. Her whole attitude turned oddly young, almost childlike.
"If a childhood dream is just that, then should it be accounted the same weight as the dream of an adult?" That childlike element stayed around for only a short period before disappearing once more, vanishing back into the thoughtful, not-entirely-there expression that she usually sported, gaze tracing the street they were walking on. One ear was trained in the direction of the bar as she skirted the edge, and finally she made another turn. This time the bell didn't ring at all, and so she kept going confidently. "We're almost there."

Xiven couldn't help but stare. Was this woman on drugs? She couldn't honestly help but wonder as she continued to speak of bells and such. What normal person spoke in such a way?
The feline was startled by the prince charming comment. Not dreaming about him? Not everyone really had the same dreams, she supposed. And everyone had a different idea of "Prince Charming" and all that went with it. She did bring up a good point... was an adult dream more valid than the dream of a child?
"I think a dream is simply a dream. I don't think they hold any more weight with age, they just shift to a different view." She shrugged. "I don't think not dreaming about prince charming is a bad thing. He or she is different depending on... well everything."
The sudden shift in the deer's personality was duly noted as she announced their status. It was a bit of a relief and a bit of a worry. Though, she should probably be thankful for not staying with any of those depressed people--crazy or not.

Helen wasn't on drugs, but she probably should have been. At least, the ones that were designed to help counter various mental illnesses. Helen herself would simply say that all she was doing was looking at the world in an entirely different way than was the commonly-accepted "norm." As she'd once told Parzifel, everyone viewed the world on different planes. Hers just happened to be seperate from everyone else's. at a slightly different angle, and a bit wobbly to boot. It made the world so much more interesting.
Glancing to the side at Xiven, a little smile came into being on her muzzle, expression almost secrative.
"Dreams are simply dreams, with no weight at all?" Shaking her head, she laughed softly. "What a silly idea. Where did you ever come by such a notion?" She shook her head again, slowly and deliberately. "Dreams are the mechanism by which the unconscious mind expresses and analyzes the surroundings and situation, along with the subconscious desires of the dreamer. So too are they the pathways by which magic expresses itself. Ha. Just dreams? You may as well say that your heart just beats."

Xiven wasn't one to let herself be scolded by someone. She raised an eyebrow at the woman, what was she supposed to honestly say to that? Was she supposed to suck it up and just remain silent?
She snorted. "Perhaps you're putting too much faith in dreaming and a person's heart beats? In the end just can be used rather easily. After all we are just a tiny speck in the continuum of life and history. A dream is just a dream if it goes unfilled or not, it has no true bearing on reality and the way things are."
Her tail twitched as she spoke. How many of her childhood fantasies been fulfilled? One, at least, had been made a reality. Of course it hadn't been all that simple. She bit her lower lip and shook her head. Well, she had what she had now, and there was nothing anyone could do about it.

Helen stopped still in the road-way, glassy eyes fixed with startlingly sharp intensity on Xiven.
"You would count dreams as so pointless?" Slowly she took a step toward the other woman, and then another, though she didn't yet come too close. "Dreams are inspiration and drive. Dreams are often all that keep us from ending our own lives, right here and now. If you don't have a dream, you don't have anything worth living for, even if that dream is something as simple as living until tomorrow. The breaking of dreams is often the breaking of a person, even if only in the smallest realms of possibility. Maybe it was a small dream, and thus a small break. But maybe it was a big dream, the entire purpose for that person's existence. Think on how much that could break someone, to have all your wishes shattered at once."
She shook her head slowly at the pureblooded Torquehelm woman's foolishness, disregarding their rank discrepancy once more. "If that's how worthless you think dreams are, perhaps you should clasp yourself in chains once more."

Xiven snorted. Talk about an attempt at a verbal bitch slap. The woman then laughed at the remark of putting back her bindings. "Now I think your other statements are nearer to correct than the last one. Dreams can be inspiration and drive, and everyone has them. If they were too be shattered, I suppose a person would be broken. However if a dream fails you just find a new goal based in reality. And I hardly think I should put on my bindings again because I have little faith in dreams! Ha!"
She waved a hand dismissively, "My bindings are at the bottom of a pond where they belong."
Why exactly was she continuing to talk to this crazy woman? It was a frustrating exercise that was getting her nowhere. Or at least nowhere verbally, but she supposed it was at least an exercise for dealing with people. Not everyone was as well put together as they were in the palace.
