Once the waitress was gone the sparrow shrugged. "He's adopted." They were hardly related by blood, thank the stars and sky above for that one. Honker just happened to be the bastard love child of his Father's best friend who was like a brother to him and his father's therapist. Yes, it was an odd combination but none the less it had happened.
Honker's ears pulled back as he looked up at Zane. "What does blood have to do with anything?" He asked. Blood was that stuff that came out of you when you got a cut or scrape. It shouldn't have to do with family right? He was still confused when Zane patted him on the head.
"It's nothing Peter." He said quietly. He wasn't about to explain what blood realities were and what they weren't. He would save that for when he was older and would understand. "Anyway..." He looked up at Merquise, "You don't seem very uncomfortable about this notion like most people do."

He was ready with an explanation for the Ace when Zane spoke again, and then raised an eyebrow at the dismissal.
"Shared blood is one of the ways to determine family ties. I don't know what sort of importance you place on such things here, but in the Wastes it's one of the most important aspects. Of course," he added, nodding genially toward Zane, "adoption is another way to bring someone into a family." Simply putting off an explanation like that was not something he particularly approved of. Mayhap Zane would be annoyed at him, but he had kept the explanation simple enough. And it was a concept that he thought that even a child should know - Suits knew that he'd had it pounded into him his entire life.
"As I said, I am from the Wastes. Family is highly important, often beyond other considerations." And let him make of that what he would. Just because he was comfortable with one Ace didn't mean he would be comfortable with another.

The confusion on Honker's face was clear as he tried to process the information. It made sense. People were related. And some weren't related by blood but that still made them family. But... what... didn't make them family? He looked up at Zane ready to ask the question but actually stopped when he noticed the tired look on Zane's face.
Well he could ask after the got ice cream. That would be better anyway.
Zane raised an eyebrow at the Hisstor who sat across from him. He had heard that they had a high standard of family values but... this was something else entirely. Most people didn't like the idea of an Ace that could talk and have a conversation. In fact most people didn't believe that Aces were capable of such a thing.
"So you're saying even if the member of the family is an Ace... they're still a part of your family in your Realm? So having an Ace that can talk and converse with you isn't something abnormal?" If that was true... he may have to pay a visit to the mysterious region.
