The laugh was reassuring and the joke had been taken well at least... Though Bernard still wasn't sure how much of a joke it really was...Heilyn probably would kick someone into the dirt for referring to her possessively...
"Frustrating, huh? I believe that one...she can be quite...frightening when she wants to be." He smiled and rolled his eye a little.
He watched Seth's face for a reaction but...he didn't seem to reveal many emotions through expression...Bernard had no clue what was going through his mind... Had the suggestions about taking Heilyn out been pushing the topic a little far?
Bernard stiffened slightly as he was suddenly pulled into a hug. He hadn't expected it, especially not from this Bat. Though he was being gentle, the King activated his ignore pain ability...and was glad of it...he could feel one of his broken ribs protest before the ability kicked in...and he could still feel...although not painfully...something squish down on his wounded side that shouldn't have...
Damn. He would just have to make sure the Bat didn't leave without being told to fetch Temmin...damn. He hated being injured...
He slowly raised his right arm and returned the hug, keeping his left lower so as not to disturb his badly broken collarbone...it was worse on that side. If Temmin had to set it again, he'd get an ear-full...
"You're welcome. I'm glad to help in any way I can. You know...? Call it a hunch, but I think she might like a bit of weaponry from the Mid-Range...I know a few people who could get you something easily." He laughed lightly, pulling back but still smiling. He couldn't feel the pain so he blotted it from his mind for the moment.
"Body guard? I.....I would actually really appreciate it, if you have the time. I have been a little...worried, of late."
He smiled and tried to resettle...but something in his middle was out of place and it worried him..

"She really would,[/b]" the bat replied, unable to help himself. His lips drew away slightly in what was his most common grin, but with a hint of nerves behind it. He had a very immediate knowledge as to what would happen, in fact. "I, uh, sorta insinuated that I thought that she was mine along with a few other things. She... Was not pleased. At all.[/b]" he laughed a little nervously at that, shaking his head. Did this man really want to hear this? Seth wasn't sure if he would, if they were to trade places.
The Bat was completely oblivious to the way that Bernard's insides were shifting, despite his care to treat the man gently. He released him from the hug, feeling quite awkward. He found himself scratching his arm absently, looking away from the man for the moment. When he spoke again, however, Seth swung his head around, expression one of perfect surprise at the warm smile on Bernard's face. How...?
"Really?[/b]" the bat asked once he had found his voice again. The kind offer had completely blindsided him. He coughed softly, eyes widened. "I, uh, wow. Those are some amazing weapons. I don't doubt that they would earn her attentions, but I'd never heard of them being avaliable outside of the Mid-Range.[/b]" Seth's excitement was a tangible thing, his emotional breakdown completely forgotten in favor of thoughts of the weapon. "If you can help me find one of those... Well, consider that a payment for a lifetime of protection.[/b]"
Seth nodded slightly at that. With the rush of visitors and everything that had happened lately... He could fully understand why the man was worried. "I'll need to run it past Heilyn, but... I'll be right back down after that. While Temmin's in here, I can stand outside the door.[/b]" he glanced up at the clock, then hesitated. "Is there anything I can get you? I should be heading up to Lyn again soon...[/b]"

"Oh, hills...I can only imagine that she threatened you with bodily harm? I fear for her friend, Peaches, sometimes. Heilyn could break that girl over her knee physically...and Peaches can be possessive of her friends." Bernard said with a shaky grin, hoping she hadn't actually hurt him...he didn't want to make Seth feel any more awkward than he already had. The mention of Peaches was joking...and a warning. She did get overly affectionate...though that didn't really...bother him...anymore...
Seth's expression was enough to put Bernard's mind even further from the damage the hug had done. That hopeful look, good...maybe this friendship could still be salvaged...
"Yes, really. I have a few Mid-Range friends who have a station in the Capitol...they don't normally peddle their weapons outside of their Realm but...they can be persuaded. And don't be ridiculous...of course I'll still pay you...though you might have to wait a few months after my nieces and nephew have their birthdays...I'm always a little broke after those...events."
He grinned and shrugged, he knew he spent ridiculous amounts of money on the kids...but if he didn't Gaston would have the title of best-present-giver...and that simply couldn't happen.
"No, I should be fine for the night, honestly. I've got Temmin for awhile, then a few people are coming in about paperwork, I'm fine with you just stopping back in tomorrow, I should have a few descriptions of what the Mid-Rangers have available by then too."
He gave the Bat another smile, he really liked his sincerity...he would be a great student if he would still be comfortable enough around Bernard to learn. He just hoped Temmin wouldn't have to re-stitch anything huge...the Heron would tell him off for that, and he would have earned it...

Seth was about to comment on exactly what Heilyn's reaction had been when Bernard mentioned Peaches. The bat froze as he'd been, mouth open slightly in surprise, the corner of his eye twitching unconsciously. No, no, this couldn't be the same Peaches. "Peaches?[/b]" he said in a quiet voice. Of course it was the same Peaches. How many people were running around with the name of a fruit? "Torque cat? I, uh, knew a Peaches...[/b]" and she was Lyn's friend? Things were just getting stranger and more awkward by the second, and the bat laughed to himself, shaking his head at it all.
"If you insist. Lyn's got me on a pretty good salary now, so it's really not that necissary... Heh, gotta spoil them senseless, do you?[/b]" Seth responded, voice catching slightly as his mind began to wander back to the blades. "But really, selling them... I've never heard of a group of them that was willing. I might just have to treat myself, if something catches my eye.[/b]" Who knew. It might be the only time that he had that chance, and if he ever saw that Midranger mouse again it'd be interesting to see how he reacted to the weapon.
"If you're sure,[/b]" Seth said, standing up and glancing around before turning back to look at the bedridden man. He couldn't help but feel reluctant to leave... That would mean returning to the pregnant and crazily-hormonal Heilyn, which Seth wasn't exactly looking forward to.
Especially with the information he had now. If he was protecting the man, it would make it easier to take his mind off the questions surrounding the woman's pregnancy.
"Is there anything else you need before I leave?[/b]" The bat asked, voice taking on a hopeful tone. Maybe the inevitable could be delayed for just a little bit longer.

"Yes, that's her." Bernard said with a grin and a slight eye-roll...though fond. "You know our Peaches, do you? Heh, I'm not surprised...she knows practically everyone somehow..."
If only Seth knew, spoil the kids senseless? How else could he compete with Gaston?
"Spoil them? Of course, I'm an indirect relative, that's what I do to gain their affection." He chuckled, as he nodded at the mention of Heilyn's salary. "I would recommend treating yourself, those weapons are quite something, I even have one."
The hopeful tone in Seth's voice was confusing...did he want to stay? Why...? He did need Temmin, though...the....whatever it was that had squished unpleasantly in the hug needed attention but maybe....
"Aside from Temmin, no I don't need anything but...if you'd like to come back in about an hour...I'd love the company. I'll ask the nurse to pick up the list of things the Mid-Rangers were selling and you could come back and peruse it, if you like...I could talk to you about what types of magic you would like to begin your studies with..."
He gave the Bat a smile that was the equivalent of a shrug, he wasn't sure what Seth wanted.

Seth had to bite his cheek to keep from laughing at that. So the feline had been a Heart. It figured, with his luck as of late... His thoughts swam back to his mother and he couldn't help but wonder what she'd think of it. She'd probably ignore that fact and go right back to trying to kill him, but he could wish! "She's really something, heh. Met her and she told me she thought it'd be fun to start a barfight.[/b]" Of course, that meant that Seth would have to keep his eyes open for her in the halls later.
The man nodded eagerly. "When I return, I'd love to see it,[/b]" he replied, glancing to the door. Outside, he could catch a glimpse of sunlight stretching through the windows, playing in intricate patterns on the floor. It had to be getting on to noon by now... He could manage to at least attend a lunch with the coyote.
Taking notice of Bernard's almost confused expression, Seth laughed softly. "Don't mind me. I'm just... Not exactly looking forward to going back to Miss Hormones.[/b]" he admitted, ears flicking back slightly with a kind of embarassment. He'd never thought that it could be so difficult to deal with a pregnant woman. The bat stretched slightly, wings extending as much as they could in the small space. The man had never had a very good idea of personal space.
His face lit up at the mention of what they'd discuss when he returned. "Then I'll find Temmin, and when I get back... Can we talk about the magic studies?[/b]" his excitement was enough to be an almost tangible thing, red eyes glinting. That prospect was enough to make him forget all of the emotional turmoil that he was going through. "If that's alright with you, of course. I don't want to rush into it too quickly.[/b]"

"Fun to...start a bar fight?" The look of confusion was pitiable...Bernard couldn't connect with that on any level. "Well, hills....that's about as scary as a Lowlander with the plague. Did you actually have the bar fight?"
He couldn't help his interest, even though he would have run had she suggested that to him...the idea was so foreign...had they really?
Bernard chuckled a little at the intensity of the Bat's interest. "And when you get back I'd love to show it to you, so there we are." His smile faded a little and he grimaced sympathetically. "While I don't blame you, I know it'll mean a lot to her to have you around for a bit...even if she can't express it..."
Pregnant people made Bernard uncomfortable...always had...always would...it was far too alien to be real and made him feel awkward.
"Certainly, I'd love t go over at least an outline with you if we have time." The magician scoffed. "There's no such thing as rushing...you'll be learning somehting...you'll find your pace soon enough. Mine fluctuates, granted but...you'll do well, I'm sure."
((If you just want to pick up with him coming back in an hour, I would dance X3))

((of course X3 *chugs along cheerily*))
Seth laughed. "That we did. I ended up worse for wear, but it was worth it.[/b]" he remarked, enjoying the way Bernard had reacted to the news. Bar fights weren't for everyone, he knew, but he still enjoyed them a great deal. "...And I'll admit. I'm feeling pretty excited about everything you can tell me. Living in the Glacier for most of my life... Well, it's a lot like living under a rock, in some regards.[/b]"
He turned towards the door, an ear twitiching. He knew it would be good to see Heilyn, he assured himself, but all the same... She was so strange right now. He felt like he needed to tiptoe so delicately around her, and for a man of his disposition, that wasn't easy. "I know it. I'll see you in an hour or so, then.[/b]" he replied easily, going to find the doctor before facing the hormonal coyote.
~~~
All in all, spending a little bit of time with Heilyn hadn't been nearly as taxing as Seth had originally thought it would be. She was still crazy with pregnancy, but seeing that the bat hadn't killed Bernard had soothed her nerves quite a bit, and they had actually managed to have a pleasant dinner together. The whole time, he managed to push aside all thoughts of her pregnancy, replacing oh god there are living things inside of her with I'm going to learn MAGIC. From BERNARD.
It was an extremely effective tactic, and once dinner and the hour had passed, the bat went bounding eagerly back to Bernard's room, unable to keep his eagerness under control any longer. His mind was far too full of the promise of what was to come. It wasn't, for Seth, about the gained knowlege. For him, it was about the power. He could almost taste it.
Finally, he reached the door, and slowed his pace to something far more appropriate to the current circumstances. His posture continued to betray his excitement, however, his ears perking forward and standing almost unusually erect, considering how often he normally flipped them back against his neck. He gave a brisk knock on the door before poking his head in, greeting Bernard and Temmin with his usual grin.
"Ready for some more company, I hope?[/b]" the bat commented, good cheer showing through in his tone. "Lyn sends her greetings and apologies. She's not feeling fantastically, and didn't want to risk too long a walk, so it might just be me for a few days.[/b]"
Adeon ADORED Seth. His favorite place to rest was that thick, warm hair, like a cloud~ ....that was warm... and hairy... and sometimes swatted at him. He floated about in the air behind him, watching the Court as in went by, noticing everything... but not taking the effort to remember the placement of everything. He would eventually through repetition, but for now every detail was taken in and forgotten in place of the next detail. The Bat, in his excitement, had not taken notice of Heilyn's familiar. Adeon followed into the room behind Seth, taking in all the new smells and ZOMG NEW PEOPLE! He raced to be in front of Bernard, wiggling excitedly, hoping the man would pet him. He was an affectionate creature and lived for attention, even that of complete strangers. He looked up at Temmin and chirped hopefully. And the man in front of him... reeked of magic... maybe he would feed him, too? He opened his mouth gaping wide and closed it. It worked with Heilyn, surely it would work with a complete stranger who didn't know him! [>> Sorry, but for some reason the Tove-muse was screaming at me to post him >>]
