This conversation seemed to be coming to an end, something which Apocalypse was extremely grateful for. He wanted to get back to his normal life, not this weird business-personal hybrid thing that seemed to be the only suitable way to describe the scene unfolding in front of him.
The man eyed Eldy for a long minute, taking note mentally of the way she reacted to his stare. She really was afraid of him, wasn't she? The temptation was strong to try and soothe her with magic, but he forced that back. No, he wasn't Peaches. He wasn't going to play with her emotions because it would entertain him. If she was afraid of him - he did believe that to be a good thing. At least to a certain extent. For one, it would help protect her from him in the future. But for another, it meant she wouldn't get too comfortable around him, which meant meetings like this one would be kept to a bare minimum.
Which was good.
In response to her statement, he gave her a small nod. "Thank you for that. I... I really do value it, especially since it's not just based in selfishness at this point." His eyes slipped shut for a moment and he rested his hands in his lap, looking thoughtful. Then he looked at her again. "Was there anything else you needed from me?"

A stiff nod was the Feline's answer to Apocalypse. She was oddly still, for her, as she eyed him, purple eyes dark with thought and some unreadable emotion. The fear had been pushed down for the moment, buried under the layers of callousness and personal pride she'd built up, the former over many years and the latter...somewhat more recently. It was still there, though, and she started to hate it as soon as she realized that. No matter how 'useful' the man in front of her might claim her fear was in this situation, not matter how sensible...she hated to have such a weakness.
At least she knew Apocalypse would never reveal that weakness. Because he didn't ever want to delve too deeply into -why- she feared him. At least there was now a sort of...tentative trust as well, between the two, an understanding...though that wasn't much more effective than a band aid at this point. But it was something.
After a long moment, Eldy shook her head. "No, nothing. Not at the moment." She hesitated, good ear tilted to the side. "Unless you think there's anything else we need to discuss." She hoped not. Eldy was just as ready for this meeting to be over as he was.

The way she was eying him was strange, and for a moment, Apocalypse felt a spark of genuine interest light up inside of him. It faded almost as quickly as it had appeared, but that feeling lingered on after. The expression wasn't one he'd ever associated with Eldy - he'd always thrown the woman in the same general pot of dislike that he'd placed Peaches in so long before. But that look. There was something of Xiven in it, too, a small hint of something he enjoyed. Unable to keep it back, a small smile twitched at his lips, genuine for the instant it was present. Then his expression smoothed back into the level calm he'd maintained for the previous part of their meeting. Maybe this would help things, in the long run. After all, a band aid could serve to cover a wound and keep it from festering. Their relationship needed time to heal - and as long as he wasn't pressured, the King was willing to let that process happen naturally. But the moment had passed, and the feeling was fading. They would be professional towards each other, and little else. At least for now. This just wasn't a relationship he wanted to pursue any more than that, and now, he was ready to get back to the rest of his life. So when she finally spoke, the man let out a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding. His head inclined forward, a small nod. " Then I suppose we're finished." He stood, trying not to seem too eager, and extended a hand. " Thank you for meeting with me. I do appreciate the help, more than I will ever be able to express. Those kids are quite the handful." He gave her another brief smile. " Take care." ((one more from you, or shall we call it done? ))

Eldy inclined her head, standing as well and taking his hand in her paw, as well as she could manage. "Of course, Your Highness," she said, instinctually knowing they were back to formalities. "Just let me know if my help is needed in any additional capacity." The words tasted slightly sour on her tongue. How the language of the Courts just felt so unnatural...she would never understand why anyone would want to pursue a career in politics. Even with the proper Rank, many remained outside of such insanity.
One day, she'd be through of the place for good. Even if part of her had a hard time believing that, part of her still thought of this messed up place as 'home', as much for the memories that whispered down the halls as the family she still had here.
With a small, but polite, bow, she left the office, and vanished into the shadows with barely a sound. For now, she could go back to pretending as if she didn't know the King, as she was almost sure he'd do for her...her stub of an ear twitched as the Feline shook her head, returning to familiar haunts and lonely places.
