"And you as well, sir," Colin chirped politely as Toli made his exit. He couldn't hide a smile at Eddy's antics, but he knew the two adults would understand, given how much they both obviously cared about the child. He waved a wing cheerfully at the little boy, wingfeathers brushing against his water glass, but luckily not knocking it over. Colin had a nasty habit of clumsiness, and it wasn't the impression he wanted to make on Parvana.
"Nice to meet you, too, Eddy. Perhaps if we should chance to meet again, I will be sure have tried apple juice in the meantime," he called as they left, still grinning.
As he turned back to the butterfly, his expression shifted to become more serious. He nodded, almost buisiness-like in his tone and manner, though he wanted this to be a casual conversation and an enviornment Parvanna would feel comfortable in. But since it was a sensitive subject, he was taking refuge in solemnity.
"Well, I want to know about Queen Lysarus," he began, mind working fast to formulate specific questions. "I suppose the first question would be...what sort of person was she? You'd know better than almost anyone else, I suspect. What was her main goal in life?" He might as well start with that. After all, it was the question of what Lysarus's goals had been that had led him down this path, orginally, though his motives had shifted somewhat.

With her tea in hand, Vana moved over to the table where Colin was waiting and slipped into a seat to join him. She would turn her cup slightly, staring thoughtfully into her tea as he spoke, and when it time to speak she kept her gaze lost in the dark liquid.
Lysaras... She knew it was coming but her heart still beat hard in her chest at the mention of her name.
"Personally, I found her to be wonderful. She was kind and generous and I believe she enjoyed helping others a great deal. As for goals," Parvana hesitated thoughtfully. There hadn't been many, she was sure, by the time she'd arrived Lysaras had admitted she wanted out. "Well, in the beginning, Lysaras had wanted to make Spades somewhat of an Ambassador Suit but there wasn't much rallying among the Spades and it became very disheartening for her."
Vana's polite smile turned sad as she spoke. It broke her heart to know how much dear Lysaras had wanted to help and how, in the end, the lack of spirit had eventually taken such a toll on her.

Colin's gaze lingered in his water glass as he sipped thoughtfully, listening to the butterfly recount her memories of the late Queen. He nodded, half glancing at her out of the edge of his vision. He knew this was difficult for Vana, and he wanted to encourage her as much as possible so that he could finally hear the other side of the story.
As she described the goals of Lysarus and what had led to those goals becoming abandoned, it clicked. It was as if someone had turned a light switch on in his head and it all made sense. How such a kind, caring woman was so hated...why their Suit had been 'degraded'...yes...
He looked up fully, eyes bright with...some hard to read emotion that must have been a mix of revelation and sympathy. "That's...sad. I'm sorry to hear that," he began. "I'm continually frustrated by how apathetic a lot of people can be towards things that are going on, even very important ones. They won't take any sort of pride in their Suit, their beliefs, anything! All they care about is what's going on right in front of them." Colin realized he was ranting a bit, and lowered his head sheepishly, clearing his throat a bit. "Er, one example of which is...the other Spades being so reluctant to actually do something and help...a pity, since that's a good goal. SOMEone needs to make sure all the Courts are being civil, heh." He frowned lightly, wondering for the first time what the goals of Lysarus's replacement were...'bringing honor and respect back to our Suit' wasn't the most clear plan for the future. But that was the LAST thing he had a right to be thinking about here and now...he didn't have to ask to know what Vana likely thought of Queen Donalda, who had all but murdered Lysarus in cold blood.
He offered Vana a sad smile. "I once met someone who Lysarus had helped, and she was...sad that she had never gotten a chance to really repay her for her kindness." He was silent for a moment, wondering where best to go with the conversation. Well, what would the butterfly want to talk about?
"Is there a favorite memory that you have of her?" Colin asked, and immediately after the words were out of his beak...he flushed lightly, remembering she was the late Queen's lover...still, he let the question stand, figuring there would be some fond memory she might be willing to reminisce about to a sympathetic ear.
