Despite herself and the anxiety she'd felt before, Aimili found herself relaxing. She was still painfully aware of how dirty she was, especially in the neat and beautiful little shop, but Kanoni was just so friendly. She accepted the offered bread with a small, shy smile, trying to keep herself from just wolfing it down. It was amazing what an empty stomach could do to the taste of something... The bread was simple, but the woman would have sworn she'd never tasted something so delicious in all her life.
When the Kite spoke, Aimili rose her head, giving her a bright and happy smile. "It... really is. I guess I've been too shy since I came back here. I haven't really gone out of my way to find company.[/b]" She laughed, raising a paw to cover her mouth, a light blush covering her cheeks. "I didn't realize how much I'd missed it! Thank you so much for inviting me in.[/b]"
The Hound's expression changed slightly when Kanoni excused herself, her head inclining to the side as she watched the bird vanish up the stairs again. What was...? She was still staring when the woman returned, and her eyes went wide and round when they fell on the piece of jewelry that she was holding. "O-oh... That's beautiful...[/b]"

Watching Mili try to eat as fast as possible without seeming to, made Kanoni giggle, though a moment later her face fell slightly when she realized how long it must have been since she last ate. The wide-eyed look Kanoni received made her blush, she liked how her jewelry looked, but it looked better on people than off.
"Thank you, Mili," Kanoni smiled at the compliment.
She leaned over and unhooked the clasp of the chain. Holding one end in her beak, she leaned forward and gently took the hound's skeletal left paw, and began to wind the chain around and through her bones. She slipped the end back into the hoop clasp, and patted Mili's paw as she moved away.
"There you go, look how lovely it is against your coloring! It must be a sign, you have to keep it!" She sighed and grinned, "Though I definitely think you have to come back to visit me, purely for showing off my work, of course!"

If she'd asked how long it had been, Aimili wouldn't have known how to respond. It had been too long, and her stomach almost didn't know what to make of its sudden good fortune. She just hoped she didn't come across as rude, not with all the kindnesses Kanoni had done her already... With the bracelet on top of it all, the mixed-realm almost wasn't sure what to say or do. Part of her almost wanted to cry as soon as she'd realized that the beautiful trinket was intended as a gift.
Rather than cry, however, Aimili just sat very still, raising her skeletal paw to let the Kite secure the chain firmly in place. A thousand fears raced through her mind - how was she going to manage to keep it from getting lost or damaged or stolen? The answer didn't come in specifics, just a general feeling. She would keep it safe. It was a gift, from one of the first friends she'd made since she'd left her old life behind. Without a word, she leaned in, wrapping her paws around the other woman and burying her nose into the soft feathers on the Highlander's shoulder.
"Thank you,[/b]" she said softly, her voice wavering with emotion. She had to try not to be too self-conscious, she knew how dirty she was, but... A hug seemed appropriate. "I don't know if I can ever thank you enough. It... it really means a lot. And I'll come back to visit. Of course I will.[/b]" She had the vague feeling that perhaps this meant that Kanoni had business she needed to attend to, and that it was time to move on.

Kanoni quickly rubbed a wing tip across her eye, smudging away a tear before Mili could see it. Seeing other people almost cry had always made Kanoni cry, ever since she was a little girl. And seeing other people actually cry made her a sobbing mess. It could be rather unfortunate at times.
"You're welcome, Mili." It felt good to be on the receiving end of a honest hug, it had been a long time, and Kanoni knew good hugs should be treasured. She would keep this moment in her memory, savoring it when she was lonely. She collected these few and far between moments just like she collected rare beads for jewelry making.
"Well, I really should get back to work, but feel free to drop by anytime Mili. That's what friends do." She smiled and walked Mili to the door, happier than she had been since she moved to the Capital city. Today, the sun on her face warmed more than her feathers.
((yaay finished! so happeeee))
