Yuri shook himself about in a similar manner to his mother, adding the upturned nose and everything, only with even less poise, and concluded a moment later that Highland dancing was stupid. The bees apparently thought so too, because they paid Yuri absolutely no mind at all. He was quite heartbroken by the snub. Someone being angry at him was a terrible thing but at least it was acknowledgment; he did not like being ignored.
"I don't think dancing is the way to do it," he said, sadly, wondering if he should just go back to his pile even though it would take forever. But then thought that maybe his fears had been true and that maybe the bees were really just mean and didn't want to be their friends no matter how much he danced or climbed. He stared up at their nest balefully, eyes wet. "Wicked bugs! Why do you hate?"

Makenna tried her best to imitated the movements shown by her mother, the awkwardness multiplied by the coordination granted by her youth. Makenna found this rewarding in no way. The dance did not make her feel like a beautiful princess like ballet did. That, and it wasn't getting any attention. She stopped when Yuri did and looked up at Heilyn.
"Yeah... look! They're not coming down to say 'hi' or anything!" Heilyn shrugged.
"Well, either they don't like dancing or we're just doing it wrong. Either way it's obviously not working. Maybe they just don't want to be friends?" She was hoping the suggestion would deter Yuri from continuing to build his progressively unstable mound of junk.
"So... Highland bees are just like normal Highlanders?" The suggestion took Heilyn off-guard and caused her to snort with laughter. She quickly got her giggle under control.
"It would seem so, my little <Dragonfly.>"

Yuri continued to look miserably up at the bee nest. Momma had just confirmed his secret fears: the bees were mean Highlanders who didn't want anything to do with them. Maybe, Yuri thought, it was because of the smell, but maybe just because the bees were jerks. Fine then. He didn't want to be friends with them anymore either. They were stupid.
"When you die," he told the bees, voice filled with hurt, "don't ask me to talk at your eu...oolo...your oologee. I have nothing nice to say."
And having said the meanest and most hurtful thing he thought he could say to the rude bees (and he hoped they felt ashamed!), he plopped down on the grass and sighed. For a moment he thought the bees, in a fit of terrible contrition, would come down and apologize to him for wounding him so. But there was nothing some more, so he turned to Makenna and said, "I'll help you with your flowers, if you want."
