Jovan had hesitated for a moment, unable to focus fully on Alaster when Vaska's pitch was rising to such a degree of distress. Oh, uhm... Perhaps...
Oh, nope... Nothing he could do.
By the time Alaster had finished speaking, he'd acquired a panicked bat-child to his back and Jovan was left standing exactly where he'd been before with a baffled expression on his face. Huh.
"Vaska?" He prompted lightly, hoping that this would not blow up into a fight between child and guard. Gently he stretched out a tentacle and tapped the young bat. "Are you going to come too?" Just ignore the weird stuff, it seemed to work out alright... Maybe Vaska would get distracted from his... panic? and they could all be peaceful.
Glancing back to Alaster, he smiled a bit awkwardly. "I'm Jovan, it is a pleasure to meet you Mr. Alaster. Thank you for all your help so far." Balancing both conversations was more awkward than Jovan had previously anticipated.

Alaster smiled, what a polite child. He really hoped it wasn't just a first impression facade and that the kid was really like this. He seemed in good health, too. That would be an extremely helpful head start. He would be tested, of course, but he had a good start, at least.
He was going to give him more information when the little screaming brat latched himself on to his leg. Alaster gave a surprised yell and stood on one leg with his wings outstretched for balance and tried to violently kick the the child off. Of course the little wretch would inherit his idiot father's Breed. He stayed there, firmly clinging to his leg. Alaster sniffed and gave up. He did want to get the child to the palace. He would drag him along and take more... severe measures when Jovan was having a private chat with Gerald.
"The head of the guard is named Gerald," he said, going back to walking as if there was not a screaming Bat child latched onto his leg, "He's a very short Crocodile-Armadillo mix. He's the one you want to talk to. Tell him I sent you to him."

With quite a bit of flopping and shouting, Vaska managed to situate himself, his batty limbs serving him quite well in terms of grabbing onto his perch of choice. Even when Alaster started to kick, the boy managed to hang on quite tenaciously, his wide eyes burning with a vigor from beneath his tangled mop of a mane. He would cling tight! He would prevail! Wherever it was that the guard and his newfound friend went, Vaska would go too, his clinging ensured it!
When Jovan spoke to him, Vaska gave a small nod. He'd be fine, at least, he would be now. Later was an entirely different story.
"Gerald smells funny," the bat muttered from where he was stuck, his eyebrows furrowing. He hadn't ever spoken with the little man personally, and he probably didn't stink at all, but Vaska felt like he needed to say something. After all, he couldn't be a part of the conversation if he just clung silently to the large man's leg. Then something about the way Alaster had spoken clicked, and Vaska stared at the larger man, clinging a little tighter. "He doesn't need to bring a message to him. We're going there too. Aren't we?"

Jovan winced slightly as Vaska threw himself on Alaster, clinging wildly to the man even as Alaster attempted to kick him off. The tentacled youth merely kept his muzzle shut and waited for the spectacle to calm and for their walk to continue.
Vaska really was very... errr, interesting... but Jovan liked him. Alaster appeared to be doing fairly well with dealing with his insanity as well.
"Crocodile-Armadillo?" Interesting mix... But Jovan had little room to speak with his tentacles and all... "Alright, I'll do that. Thank you again, S.. sir..." Another short pause, this time as Vaska seemed to grow agitated once more. "Oh, I don't know. Interviews are usually done personally, but you can wait in the hall if you want to talk once I'm done." Would that work? Vaska had certainly seemed a bit overly anxious about the whole being left alone thing, hopefully this wouldn't be too much of a problem.

[Jeez, guys, I'm so sorry. I completely forgot about this thread. >< ]
"Jovan's right, Vaska. He's supposed to talk to Gerald all alone without any help from anyone. We'll wait outside for him," he very dearly wanted to say "go somewhere else" but knowing the way Vaska worked that would probably cause him to freak out.
"Don't be so nervous, Jovan. Being a guard is about decisiveness and confidence." There wasn't much more he could say seeing as he didn't actually know the kid at all.
It wasn't long before they reached the gate. He nodded at the guards as they approached, the guards returning the greeting by staring at the ratty little child clinging to Alaster's leg.
"Gerard in the barracks, Samara?" Alaster asked, slowing his pace but not stopping.
"Yessir," the Hisstor Wolf answered, turning her attention away from the spectacle. She smirked, but said nothing. Alaster lead them around to the barracks, pointing at various things and giving a small tour along the way. Damn, that stupid kid was heavy.
"And here we are. Let's go in. I'll introduce you, then you just follow where Gerard takes you. He'll probably want to talk somewhere less crowded than here. He's a bit rough, but a good man. Just be honest, and good luck," he wished the kid before walking in. "Sir. I have a young man who wishes to speak to you about becoming a guard."
"Do you now? Well let's see him." he grinned, showing his many pointy teeth. Alaster stepped back and let Jovan step forward. He gave one final nod to Jovan before leaving. As soon as the door was shut, Alaster looked down.
"Off," he commanded sternly.

Once again, as it always happened, the world was working against Vaska. All he wanted - all he'd asked for! - was to be included. This person, this Jovan? This was his friend! They'd only just met, and already he was being gotten rid of. Part of him wanted to blame it all on the damn guard, but he knew the truth. This was because Jovan didn't really like him, wasn't it? He just wanted to get away from Vaska, because he didn't really like him.
The thought made the little bat's ears fold back, pinning themselves firmly against his skull. Then he grabbed onto Alaster even tighter, burying his face against the man's skin and letting out a keening wail. The wail would continue on until Vaska ran out of breath, and then it would fade into silence.
It was hard to keep holding on while Alaster walked, but Vaska was nothing if not tenacious, and he hung tight. Wide red eyes peered out from behind the leg to stare as Alaster spoke to one of the other guards and then Gerald finally appeared. The boy wrinkled his nose, but tried his best to hide it. The man was really scary, and he was afraid of getting bitten. Or hit. He'd been hit before, and he didn't want to repeat the experience. From where he was hiding, his voice emerged. "Bye, Jovan. Even if you don't like me."
That would probably sound weird to everyone except Vaska. As soon as the boy was settled into his interview, Vaska turned his gaze up to the bird-lizard, meeting the man's eyes. "Will you take me back to my room? Then I can let go."

Through the wailing Alaster grit his teeth in between times he spoke. What the hell was the little wretch screaming about now? For the love of the hills, what a miserable child. Then came the sulking, self-pity. Alaster refrained from rolling his eyes. Then he refused to let go on the man's legs. A vein in his neck popped just slightly. He took a breath and calm down.
"Can you at least switch legs? The one you're on is tired." He wasn't expecting him to, but to Alaster's surprise, Vaska obliged. Alaster considered flying away at that point, but that would cause only problems. He let the boy latch onto his other leg then went up to the requested room to be rid of him.
[Done with permission. I figure one more post from Vyn then we can call this one closed? :3 ]

Jovan was somewhat quiet as he followed Alaster to the barracks. Inside he was brimming with excitement, and just a hint nervous about poor Vaska's current state of upset. Regardless, he would be able to find Vaska after his interview.
When they arrived, Jovan's many tentacles squirmed nervously for a moment, but he tucked them down against himself and squared his shoulders bravely before entering the room. He was a brave boy and he'd prove that to anyone he met. Behind him, he heard Vaska whispering a small goodbye.
Smiling a little, ignoring the odd comment, Jovan replied warmly. "Bye Vaska. I look forward to seeing you after the interview." Hopefully that would put his worries to rest, but if not... well, they would talk more fully another time. He had an interview to focus on now and being distracted with concerns of his new friend would give him no benefit.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Gerard. I'm Jovan."
(And we can call this finished.<3)
