The conversation just kept going. And she supposed she shouldn't flutter off and cut it off. And it didn't look like anyone's parents were coming anytime soon. "We might see each other, but we would learn completely different things."
"Yeah... my grandpa died before I was born.... and my grandmother died when I was still a baby. Daddy had a lot of bad luck I guess, and me and my sister are the only children he has." The bird frowned slightly, which was probably unnoticeable through the glass. "I have a lot of cousins. And Uncle Ez says he's trying to find a "nice girl" for Daddy. And he says that I would probably benefit from having more siblings."
She doubted that. But Uncle Ez was weird, and she would never be able to understand what he meant about things. But she couldn't argue with an adult.
"Do you think it's weird that I'm not a Spade?" The question was sudden, but why not ask a Spade what they really thought.

"Mommy says that I'm going to find a nice girl someday, too," Leona chimed in with a sage nod. Obviously that was the way to go about things. "I'm also going to find myself a Governor to marry someday. Then I can be a Solandrian lady."
About to go off on her quest for lady-ship, the cub paused and looked at the girl dubiously.
Not a Spade? Really? She hadn't checked. Automatically, her eyes drifted down to the rank and suit marking. They were red, weren't they? How weird.
"Most of the people who live here are Spades," she stated the obvious. It was said with a thoughtful 'hmmm' at the end. "But I guess not everybody, since you live here. Mommy meets with other people who aren't Spades, too. So I suppose it's kind of weird? But kind of not. Why don't you live in the palace of Diamonds, though? You are a Diamond, right?"

Marrying a Governor? That sounded like a really good plan. Though she had no idea what the girl really meant. She had heard briefly about the way Solandrian worked, but she had never fully realized what any of it had meant. It was a position of power, and at the very least she thought that was awesome.
"That would be amazing!" She stated brightly.
The question of why she didn't live in the Court of Diamonds was a good one. But it was easily answered. "My Daddy is a Spade who comes from a family of Diamonds... and I guess part of my mother's charm was her suit? So my sister and I were born Diamonds like our Mommy. We do have family in the Court of Diamonds but Daddy thinks it's better for us to be close to each other."
He was probably afraid of losing them. It seemed like it. He had said it before too.
The little bird's feathers ruffled when she heard a noise. She blinked at the girl through the window and glanced to the door that she couldn't properly see.

Leona spared a moment to preen over the girl's short praise of her life goal. It really would be amazing! Because ladies were so lovely and sparkly and they lived beautiful lives filled with good food and other lovely people. Or so it seemed, to a young child whose mother was the Queen of her suit and hid most of her stress from the small ones.
"Oh! Okay. So do you visit your family in the Court of Diamonds? Mommy promised that when Sophie and I were older, we could visit her family in the Yarrow and the Villa. And Daddy's family is mostly in the palace of Hearts, I think, though she's related to Mommy's helper here and to one of the Club nobles. Daddy has lots of brothers and sisters, like your Uncle thinks you should have."
She would have said more, but she heard the noise at the same time as Qwin did and her head turned halfway around, her shoulders going with it. That was Mommy's voice outside the door, and Sophie's! And one of the servants. It sounded like they were all talking. Or well, like Mommy and the servant were talking and her sister added a few words every now and then. She turned back to her new acquaintance and sat up straighter, bobbing her head.
"I think Mommy's come back. She probably wouldn't want to see me near the window. I have to go. Maybe find me again sometime? But- bye!" And with that, she jumped down and scampered as far away from the slightly ajar window as she could, bounding up onto a chair and settling onto a cushion. Her panting sides were the only indication of the brief dash.

Maybe it would have been cool to have more siblings? She wanted to think about it, but her attention was snapped back to reality when the other girl went to leave. Qwin was disappointed that the meeting had come to such a fast end.
But there was nothing she could do about it. Even if she complained it wouldn't change the fact that the girl was leaving.
"Okay. I'll try to talk to you later!" The sparrow mix called as the girl hurried off. Hopefully no one would see her leaving. With a graceful leap she jumped off of the ledge and glided to the ground.
She should probably go back to what she was supposed to be doing. Even though that was boring. Maybe she could get Daddy to play a game before he had to go back to working? He should be taking a break right now.
