Anubis grimaced and looked behind him. A firey doe and his leveret child followed as they made their way towards the Warren of a rival Jack. He had only caught a glimpse of the male at the soiree that had happened several months prior. So when an invitation was delivered for a meeting he had been quite surprised indeed. Especially when it had mentioned to bring his leveret, whose description matched his son entirely. He quirked an eyebrow at the thought and turned around, though his pace slowed. The awkward motion of his son and the obvious overheating of his doe making him shorten his strides. It wasn't that he entirely cared, but he didn't want the 'merchandise' to be beaten up by the time he arrived at the other Warren. It was only a short while later when the front of the burrow came into view and the irritation that had begun to seep up his back abated. It was time to put on his business face. His lip curled into a smirk. Anubis realized he hadn't been asked to bring Igni, but he wouldn't want to 'impose' on the other Jack. And so much the better if he took a fancy right? Perhaps he'd get something in trade that he could enjoy. . . He knocked firmly on the door.

For the past few weeks, Winnie had been functioning as a Leveret in a working warren. Part of this amazed her, the fact that Rabbits had been existing all of this time right under the noses of Card society and no one knew a thing... or at least, no one talked about it. Another part of it felt pretty familiar. Jacks were like bizarrely sex-crazed nobility who actively engaged in a slave trade. Does were an odd combination of Aces in their lack of freedom and nobles in their command over Leverets. And the Levs themselves seemed a mix of Aces and regular Cards. She had yet to work out the nuances. Her ears stood straight up at a knock on the door before falling again to half-mast and she glanced around uncertainly. The very large biped, Dorian, had told her that she should answer the door when needed because she was attractive enough to serve as a greeter, which unnerved her. No one else rushed for the knocking and so she hopped there herself, ornamental wings fluttering uselessly in the breeze as she opened the door and peeked out. Another biped loomed above her. She swallowed and opened the door more fully. "Welcome to the warren of the glorious Jack Dorian. How may I assist you?" Precisely as she'd been told to say it. She'd always had a good memory, whatever her previous owners had thought.

Anubis stopped when the door opened. A flash of gold caught his attention first and when the door opened fully he blinked, once, before composing himself. His eyes roved over the leveret perhaps a little too long. What a gorgeous thing, unfortunate about the. . things. . . on her back though. He had heard of Cards having wings, strange things that they were. But a rabbit? No, it just wrecked the whole beauty of the leveret for him. No matter.
"I have an appointment with your Master. Tell him Anubis of Torquehelm has arrived."
He stood up straight, looking down at the small creature with a sort of practiced indifference. My but that gold /was/ striking though wasn't it?
"And if you could hurry I believe my Doe is overheating."
His muscled hand reached forwards to open the door completely, letting the small rabbit see his companions. Perhaps her freakish fiery mane would get the little one moving quicker.

Winnie stared up at the dark Jack and his armor. Usually that meant someone was equipped for battle, didn't it? The thought made her nervous. But she had heard the name Anubis being mentioned at least once. It rung a bell in the back of her mind.
Speaking without being punished still felt a little awkward, but it was a welcome sort of feeling. "Of course, sir. If you would please come inside then I can lead you to a sitting... room..." Her gaze landed on Igni and stuck, the flaming mane of the Doe immediately conjuring up that of the glass-adorned horse who had been related to her last owner. She squealed and backed up a few steps, tempted then and there to bolt but unable to do so under the watchful gaze of the Jack.
Instead, she tucked her ears tight against her skull and lead the guests inside, doing everything she could to avoid seeing the flickering outline of the flames on the walls of Dorian's desert warren. They weren't directly in the sand, but it inevitably got in the paws and so the first few feet of the warren was cool stone, easy to sweep. She lead them down a short hall and into one of the first doors, a small sitting room suitable for waiting but not for entertaining. Generally the Leverets used it for various tasks. Most places had something like it. "I'll be just a moment, sir," she said in a faint voice before dashing off.

Finally they were getting somewhere. It would be nice to get out of this infernal sun. He still honestly wondered why anything would choose to live in such a bright unnatural sort of place. Anubis began to step his way into the Warren when the leveret made a most unprofessional noise. He looked down his nose with a slight hissing intake of breath. If this rat was about to insult him and his company he'd have it's beautiful little hide on his wall. But instead the little thing seemed to shrink but held it's ground, leading them further into the Warren. He would have to speak to the Jack of it's slight.
The cool stone as they moved inside soothed his burning paws and he noticed his charges relaxing somewhat as well. Perhaps they would be in better shape by the time he had his audience. He nodded briefly as the small rabbit made it's 'escape' and took a seat. Jun and Igni taking up spots in the room a ways from him. He motioned the doe over slightly, so they didn't look so separate. Wouldn't do for the hosting Jack . . Dorian, he thought he remembered. . . to think there was something wrong with her that kept him away.

Winnie hopped up to the door of Dorian's bedroom, where she thought the Jack might be during this hot hour. She paused at the door as a few loud sighs of pleasure and happy little moans reached her. The sounds made the tips of her long ears feel warm with blushing but she reached up a hesitant paw to knock regardless. Dorian wouldn't be angry to be told about visitors, would he? Another Jack seemed rather important. The noises in the room stopped and a moment later she heard swift footsteps before the door opened. The Jack stood in the doorway, looking mildly peevish while a Morganberry Doe sat near one of his chairs with a long comb on her paw. Before she could be yelled at, Winnie ducked her head low to the floor. Flattery. This man seemed to eat up flattery. She'd seen others use it to good effect and had been trying her hand at it recently. It seemed a good survival technique in this place. "Handsome Jack, you have visitors in the entry room, Anubis of Torquehelm and two others. He said he had an appointment with you."His waspish statement derailed by the Leveret's words, Dorian listened with a puzzled look on his face. The word 'appointment' seemed to spark something in his memory and an exaggerated expression of dawning realization crossed his features. "You know, I do recall something about a letter. Very well, Leveret. You may go and have an early lunch prepared for myself and my guests." He swept from his room in a grand gesture, recently brushed hair billowing around him like a golden cloud that needed to settle. He was already fully dressed for the day, having been planning on visiting the oasis sometime in the afternoon. He reached the door to the small room and smoothed down his hair and clothing before opening it. He was greeted by the sight of a handsome Jack with enviable headgear and simply divine armor, along with a rather bizarrely striking Doe - on fire? - and an oddly familiar form. He would look more closely at the little Leveret when he didn't have a peer to impress, however. "Greetings, Anubis of Torquehelm, and welcome to my home," he greeted the darker Jack with a courtly bow, the most elegant his Esterberry father had taught him. Fit for peers and no one else. "I would like to invite you and your companions to lunch with me in the study." So much more impressive than calling it the sitting room with a few books in it.

Anubis tapped his foot somewhat impatiently. He had never been one to take waiting well, but at least the coolness of his surroundings was starting to settle him. It had never occured to the Jack to bring water on their trek, he would have to note the failure for any future wanderings into this area. His head lifted as the other Jack entered the room and stood, accepting the formal greeting.
"And you as well, Dorian of Hisstor, Son of Esterberry if I am not mistaken?"
It was a small statement, but one he supposed in hindsight showed he had done his research through the grapevine before arriving. He was not one to arrive unprepared.
"That would be fine. We would greatly appreciate the food and water." He inclined his head slightly to the other Jack in acknowledgment.
Anubis glanced back at Jun and Igni, motioning them to follow as well. His clawed hand sweeped forwards in a gesture for Dorian to lead the way, and though a small smile sweeped over his lips, his eyes remained distant.

"Certainly not mistaken, my good sir, and very well informed." Had the man met his father? Dorian hoped not. If so, the resemblance would be unmistakable, especially as they shared a mane. His father's just tended to be held back in an anally neat and oil-slicked braid. A fussy thing, the old Esterberry.
But, to the matter at hand! "If you and your party would just be so kind as to follow me, I will lead you somewhere more comfortable." And then be free to oggle your companions curiously over a cup of tea. Live flames! What a novelty. The desert must agree with her, then, if she was naturally so hot. Unlike his thick-furred Solandrian Leveret... slovenly creature. He didn't care that she overheated at the drop of a hat in the desert. She just didn't carry herself with enough poise for someone who belonged to a Jack like him.
He lead the three of them into the 'study', situated with three chairs more suited for bipeds and scattered cushions for everything else. He used them all interchangeably, but for now settled himself in one of the high-backed chairs with carved wooden arms and indicated that his guests could settle wherever they liked.
Could those flames actually burn? He wondered and made a mental note to keep an eye on it, which he then promptly discarded when he became distracted.
"I'm sure the Leveret will be back shortly with refreshments," he commented, fussing with a bit of hair before setting it behind one long ear. "Until then, I would love to know what brings you to my desert warren, and in such interesting company." His gaze flitted across the other two and then paused on the Leveret. His brow creased slightly. He had seen the creature before, he knew he had. Half Hisstor... it wasn't exactly a common region.

Anubis had never met the man but it was quite scary how much one could discover when they asked the right people. He didn't really think of it too much, his history didn't bother him. Another swift nod, and then he was following the other Jack. It itched his back a little to be following another but it was proper, and it wasn't as if he actually knew his way around the Warren.
The black rabbit took in the surroundings as they entered the room with a quick eye. It wasn't bad, surely it was better furnished than his own main room. Though that was more due to lack of workers, than lack of money. He chose the next largest chair which was padded quite comfortable and settled in, his companions taking their own places upon the floor. His own hands did a dance over some of his golden armor before settling gently in his lap.
"I do believe I received an invitation from you regarding my leveret?" He waved a hand towards the younger male. Did the other male know the leveret was a male as well? Surely not if he was inquiring. Well, what he didn't ask, he didn't have to answer.
"And my doe, Igni, I brought simply not to impose in anyway." He quirked his lips into a small smile again. Anubis was curious now.
"And, may I also inquire as to why I was invited?"

Dorian had recently had the opportunity to mobilize his Leveret workforce and go on a mad cleaning and reorganizing spree within his warren. It had been utterly delightful, making the place indisputably his. Things had been moved, cleaned, shifted, swapped between rooms, moved again, inched along a little further, and then finally settled to his satisfaction before his whims changed and he told them to take it into that other room instead and put it wherever there was space. It had been such fun! For him.
He knew very little about the Jack sitting across from him and had only heard the man's name for the first time from... a Leveret...
That Leveret! Yes, he was sure. The bone ribs were too distinct to forget. Well, to forget forever. They were easy to remember, at any rate. How he loved bone adornment. They made everyone far more unique, in his opinion, and did wonders for enhancing natural appearances. The dark Leveret was no exception.
Pleased with his sudden moment of recollection, Dorian gave the other Jack a dashing smile and fiddled with his hair in an absentminded fashion. "Oh yes, yes, how silly of me. A lot's been going on lately, you understand. Quite a lot of shuffling and whatnot. And there is no imposition, my good sir, none at all. I'm sure my ladies would be lovely enough to grant you an evening's enjoyment and relaxation. Your own looks quite capable of the same."
He continued to twirl a strand of golden hair around one finger, considering how to phrase the next bit. Let's see now. "You'll note, I'm sure, the weapon sitting on the mantle above the hearth." He referred to his beautiful skull, though the gleam of a gold-hilted sword might also catch the man's eye, as well as several ornamental daggers of less auspicious origins. "Also, from a combination of my attire and my region, I doubt my preference for bone is hard to deduct. I enjoy pretty things that match me, you see, and I'd heard tell through the grapevine that you had a partially Hisstor child you might be willling to part with. I was wondering if we might come to some sort of arrangement."
