Vessatha nodded in agreement. She didn't like pregnancy, but she'd been through it once, so wasn't nervous for any part of it. The whole giving birth thing was a bitch, though.
The ferret couldn't help but grin widely at Donnie. "See, careful with that. That's what I said, what, thirty years ago? 'I'm only having one. This is not happening again.'" She lightly poked her bulging stomach. "Life never goes the way we insist it should, I'm afraid.." Vessie was just glad none of the Spades nobles had decided they needed to single-handedly propagate an entire realm by themselves; single litters were quite enough for one court to handle, thank you very much.
Vessatha's expression gradually soothed into something more serious. "Is there anything special you need me to get done before this debacle goes underway? Keep in mind, in a few months I'm going to lose my ability to handle my bipedal well, so if you need me to go anywhere, I'd best do it now."

"That's true enough," Donnie agreed ruefully, eyes drawn to the small baby bump as the ferret poked it. "I say this now, but... well, we'll see. Maybe I'll just love motherhood as much as my Aunt Ida thinks everyone should and start popping out litter after litter. And maybe a black Cat will cross my path chased by a winged Rabbit riding a Dragon. How the fortune tellers would interpret that omen, I should never know."
Her smirk moderated itself into something more thoughtful at Vessie's warning. Oh yes, she had honestly forgotten that she wouldn't be using either of her upright forms more often as the pregnancy progressed. Or at least, that she wouldn't want to. She had never been around many gravid women, since half of her father's family laid eggs and the other half didn't seem to have many children. Aunt Ida had been pregnant plenty of the times she was over, but she also counted sitting on a clutch as 'pregnancy' of a sort. An odd eagle, that woman.
"I guess the most important thing to me personally would be making sure the palace could run itself for a few months. Everything else will seem farther removed, but if things are exploding on the home front then neither of us are going to be in a very good position to deal with it. Figuring out what we'll need to delegate is going to be a bitch of a job. Also making sure that we don't schedule anything, meetings or trips or anything like that, during our down time. At least, that'll be something for me to think about and forget. I'd better warn my new secretary in a few days."

Vessie quirked an eyebrow at her Queen, bemused by the possibility. "The day you love motherhood is the day I get on that dragon behind the Rabbit and we fly to the White Rabbit's treehouse." She scoffed. "I imagine they would interpret it as some sort of doomsday.. though I must say, I'd always pictured the End Of The World coming from Hearts, what with all the crap that spews out of there.."
She shifted in the chair, the weight from her belly pressing down on her bladder in a rather uncomfortable fashion. Vessa nodded, looking upwards as she mentally ran through their upcoming schedule. "There is one trip out to the Highlands that we have scheduled, but I don't know that we have to reschedule it; it's only a few days. Honestly, Raina would be perfect for the job.. it's just working out a few trade disputes, but it has to be done by a noble - they'll be insulted if we send anyone else. I know you're probably not going to want her away at that time, but it would be a good time to test her resilience.. she'll be quite short on sleep by then, if nothing else." The ferret shrugged. Raina really was the best candidate - though she doubted the Solandrian would see it quite that way. "As for delegation, I think we'll be alright. You have two Queens you can saddle with the more delicate works, and we've a promising Jack quester coming through soon - we have enough manpower, for now."

Donnie was silent for a few breaths before she had to stifle a snicker. "That's an omen of its own, Vessie. Am I carrying the End Of The World, then? Because Raina came from Hearts. I believe that she was one of the pieces of crap spewed forth from that whole mess of nobles."
Unable to wipe the mental picture of Raina as a horseman of the apocolypse, half a dozen nipping children at her heels, the Queen kept her hand by her mouth and was half tempted to bite her thumb to stop the unseemly fit of giggles. Damn. How very not regal.
"By the time that trip comes, she'll probably be glad for the break. I don't imagine that I'll be the most glowing flower of maternal bliss in the first few weeks. She might even jump at the chance, if we time it just right. I'm sure she's used to the eccentricities of the realm after living in such close proximity for most of her life. And, as you say, we do have more manpower now. Most of it being quite gender-appropriate to the term, unfortunately. Where have all the Spade women run, now that there's a partial Yarrow in office? You'd think my mere presence would dissuade male applicants. Ah well. So long as the work gets done."

((Heya, d'you think this has come to a close of sorts? Their conversation's sort of mellowing out and has become idle chit-chat, which is awesome to see but hard to play sometimes. :3))
