Meecha was, momentarily, caught up in the new additions to her collection.
She marveled at each piece, toying with them all, but the infant needed the most tending. Swamp beasties were annoying, especially if they tried to scavenge in her home... but some dried herbs and some salts would make the smell fade just right.
"Ya did verreh good," the hamster repeated as she shook her head. "Ahye dunnt be needin' any help," hands were a bit more useful for this sort of thing anyway.
Even after the dead babe was hung up and de-stinking itself, Meecha was still annoyed by the lingering stench. "Blasted stink, worth it... but blasted." She rooted around for a while long, locating a little match so that she could like some pungent herbs aflame and then tossed the burning bundle into her cauldron so that the new odor would permeate.
"Bettah. Innt great, but betteh." She turned to Kris then, as if suddenly remember he was there again. "Betcha' hungry, hm?"

Kristoff's rattling purr increased in volume with the praise until it all but filled the small room, his fur fluffing happily. He did so like it when he made his lovely Hag happy, as she'd be much more happy to see him for weeks afterward. Of course, then he'd have to start working hard at pleasing her again, but the Capital was a much better place to find trinkets to give her than the Marsh had ever been.
"Ai'ght,[/b]" he muttered in his thick voice, settling himself in and glancing around. It looked almost as if she'd done some scavenging of her own since he'd last been her. The bandersnatch finally settled down beside him, keeping what he thought looked like a safe distance. Good. He didn't want the thing getting too cuddly or anything. It would ruin the appearance that the feline worked so very hard to maintain. As Meecha worked, Kristoff was content to simply watch her, as always wishing her knew the names of her myriad herbs and chemicals and what they all did.
When she turned her attention back to him, he raised his head, his tail beginning to sway thoughtfully. Should he press his luck? "Food'f alwaff nife,[/b]" he said with a thoughtful nod. "Fpeff'ly affer bein' away fer fo long. Yew alwayf make de beft foodf. Didja miff me, Meecha?[/b]" he stood, walking over to the hampster with a hopeful smile on his face, made somewhat crooked by the protruding of his saber fangs. "I waf away fer a lon' time, dif time aroun'.[/b]"
It all depended on Meecha's mood. If he got food, great. If he got food and sex, even better. He'd find out soon enough how the woman was feeling, he was sure.

The more Kristoff purred, the more Meecha's toothy grin widened and the less she thought about that nagging problem of him being dead, or not him. Those things were troubling, but his rattling purr was distracting, entertaining. Felines were silly things, rattling like that when they were happy.
The Hag wore a bemused expression as the scarred feline drew closer with his tail twitching. For a moment the wrong feeling flared up and she studied him hard, wary. What if that rattle was just a disguise? But he did say he wanted food, and dead things didn't eat.
Good.
And then he asked a question. Did she miss him? Her head tilted slightly, thinking back to her agitation of the last few days. She'd been worried he'd died for good this time. "Ya were gone for a really long time, dis time..." Meecha's eyes narrowed suddenly, "an' I dunnt like et when you 're gone fa so long, makes me wonder if ya comin' back at all. I dunnt like ponderin' about dat either, so ya shouldn't leave like dat." Yes, she'd missed him albeit in her own special way.
"Na whatcha want? Gumbo? I fished out some crawdads not too long ago."

As he trailed behind the woman like some kind of love-sick puppy, Kristoff's broken-sounding purr only grew in strength and volume. Beneath his feet was a scraping noise as he kneaded idly at the floors, feline behaviors impossible to ignore even when he tried to. Right now, he was feeling happy, so they showed through as strong as ever. When she turned to look at him, his eyes lit up and his ears stood tall, whiskers subconsciously curling towards her as he waited for her reply.
Well, it was nothing about sex, but that was alright. She was talking to him about missing him, in a way, and that was a nice feeling. "Righ', I kno' I fhouldn' go fer fo lon', bu' yew kno' I don' like comin' ta yew wif emp'y pawf.[/b]" the excuse was true, for all that it was feeble. He could have gathered those things quickly, had he focused on it, but the drug-trade took quite a lot of time and energy. "Iffin I'm gonna be gone fer lon' like dat, I'll fend yew a letter nex' time? Or fomefink to le' yew kno' I haffen't fergot yew?[/b]"
His long and matted tail swayed, waiting for her reply. He'd have to threaten someone to write a letter for him since he didn't know anything about reading or writing or other nancy-sissy-boy things like that, but if it meant his Meecha would be happy, Kristoff would do it happily. Maybe he'd be able to mug them while they worked. That'd be good, too.
As soon as the food was mentioned again, the cat's purring started anew. "Crawdadf![/b]" he exclaimed happily. "Awwf, Meefa, yew trea' me fo goo'. Yew kno' I loff crawdadf.[/b]" He did, too. Even the thought of sitting down with a bowl of gumbo made the man's stomach rumble. He missed his homeland.

Meecha contemplated this for a moment. At least he knew that it was wrong to disappear for so long... but, he was right... She preferred it when he came back with interesting trinkets and such, so... she could wait for that right? ...Maybe.
Really, all of these thoughts were very troublesome and they only made Meecha's anxiety more acute. So she did what she usually did: and ignored the feelings all together. That was much easier than feeling the angry tension building, and the disjointed images of sadistic destruction faded into the usual jumbled mess that was her brain.
"Y' ken send me a trinket or somethin', nah need tah worreh about letters. Just a lil' somethin' to know ya 'll be comin' back." There, taken care of.
Food, that was a much easier topic, really. Not nearly as frustrating or confusing or any of that. "A'course, crawdads. I kno whatchu like." This pleased Meecha. Dead things didn't like food, and they especially didn't have favorites. "Settle yer hunches an' I'll get it a'cookin'." Meecha was handy in the kitchen. Food had always been one of her favorite things and, even with a bit of sanity lost, she still had a knack for it (even if most people couldn't stand the things she made).
Her gumbo would've probably been a favorite of most... if it didn't contain other Cards most of the time. Luckily, Kris was treated to crawdad's or other feline favorites instead. A rare benefit of his time with Meecha.

Being home was a feeling unlike any other. Of course, just being in the Marsh wasn't enough for Kristoff, as nice a feeling as that was. He needed a little bit more than that - he needed Meecha's gumbo, her paranoia and her scolding, and maybe a little somethin'-somethin' to really ease his homesickness. A rumbly-grumbly purr escaped him as he bumped up against the witch again, his whiskers prickling forward in a clear sign of feline happiness. "Righ', righ', promiff. I'll fend ya fomefin' nex' time, fo yew won' worry fo much. Fomefin' red, yeah?[/b]" That was much better than a letter. Words were nothing next to trinkets.
"Nobody knowf me like yew.[/b]" Crawdad gumbo with a special little touch. His night really just kept improving, didn't it? He gave her a happy little nudge, then sauntered away from where she was cooking and flopped down on the floor. It had been a long trip home, and the man did feel at least a little bit tired. He gave a rather extravagant yawn, lips sliding over his long sabered fangs, and then rested his head on his paws.
Hopefully, the next time he left it would only be for a few weeks, rather than a few months. Part of him wondered if it would be possible for him to just stay here, and prey on Outsiders to keep his Meecha entertained. But no, that just wouldn't work. She needed better things than that, and he knew where to find them. The Capital was a veritable treasure-trove if you knew where to look, and Kristoff was good at looking. No, this lifestyle suited him just fine, for the time being.
Especially when there was gumbo waiting for him.
((Call it finished? :3))
