Streeeeetch. The teen's long limbs extended over her head as she moved beneath the sheets, closing her eyes and yawning before falling slack again. One eye cracked, then closed again. Was it really morning so soon? Raina sat up in the bed with a sigh, pulling the sheets up around her body, and surveyed the room. There was no sign of Donnie, and she dimly wondered where the woman had gone. Probably to the bathroom. Or something. She wouldn't be too far, though. The girl sighed again and lay back on the bed, her long brown-and-blue surrounding her head like a kind of halo. Absently she turned to look at the window, rays of light slowly creeping through as the sun rose higher in the sky. There was no pretending that she could stay in bed, not now. There was always work to be done, and the night before had only served as a small distraction, in the grand scheme of things. She went through her mental checklist, deciding what things needed to be done as soon as she could possibly manage, and which she could put off until later in the afternoon. There was one thing on her mind that she couldn't shake, and for a moment, the girl wondered if now was the right time. When Donnie returned to the room, she'd find the Solandrian sitting on the edge of the bed, still bundled up in the sheets, her feet dangling over the edge and peeking out from between the folds of the fabric. Raina looked up at the woman, a small smile crossing her face. " Good morning," she said, voice still muffled with sleep. She gave a wide yawn and blinked at the woman, a familiar spark creeping into her eye. No time like the present, right? " Donnie, I want to be your King."

Donnie had woken up early with a sore neck and a pleasantly sore rest-of-her-body. At least, memories made the aches more pleasant. Nothing could detract from the annoyance of neck pain. She left Raina snoring to relieve herself and make sure the kitchens would send up two breakfasts instead of just one, as well as confirming that she would be in her room for the early morning. Sometimes she went to terrorize and/or socialize with Vessie and the kitchen staff in turns. Coming back to her room and finding a body still warming the bed was always pleasant. She gave a small smile in return. "Morning." Where the girl was bundled up in sheets, she had gone from human to biped and then back so that her clothing would be where they belonged and her hair wouldn't look like it had been chewed on by some wild beast. That Solandrian 'hawk did hilarious things when Raina first woke up. And what was that look for? She gave the girl a look as she walked over, wondering. And then she asked. "...oh." Blink. She was seventeen. That was certainly old enough. And Donnie couldn't honestly say she hadn't entertained the thought on more than one occasion. The girl was a King. It was only a matter of time before she decided to either leave or choose her Queen. With the way things had gone, picking anyone else would have been downright insulting. Now it was just a matter of figuring out what to make her do to earn it. Herm. "Breakfast first. Then we talk about this." It would give her time to think up a suitable test, if nothing else. She changed back to a biped to get her boots out of the way and flopped down on the other side of the bed.

Oh, there was a brief spark of jealousy that Raina felt when she watched Donnie walk back into the room, fully dressed in her human form. That was a convenience that she personally longed to have - after all, she was going to have to rummage around for her own clothing, wherever it had gone to the night before, and put it back on the old-fashioned way. Absently, she combed her hair down, giving the crest of feathers a ruffle so that they stood properly atop her head. There was another envy there. This would do for now, but she'd have to carefully comb out her thick locks of hair before she'd let herself be seen in public.
She watched Donnie's expression closely as the older woman considered her question, unable to keep back the small smile that curled across her lips. Her expression was almost adorable, as if she'd somehow taken the mixed-realm by surprise. Hadn't the Queen seen this coming? After all, she'd come to the Palace years before with that intent in the forefront of her mind, and she'd served Donnie faithfully since then.
Hah. In more ways than one. She blushed softly as she considered that, turning to face the wolverine when she clambered back into bed.
Slowly, she slipped thin human arms around the fuzzy waist, pressing her face against the Queen's thick coat. "Good plan. What are you in the mood for?" her smirk went almost teasing for a moment, purple eyes shining brightly. "Muffins, perhaps?"
Oh, she was well-aware of Vessie's nickname for her. This was her way of having a little fun with it in return.

Having small human arms wrapped around her fuzzy waist brought back memories, but they were dimmer than they had been before she decided to allow this liaison. Donnie would be the first to admit that the girl was young, but she had also been the one to instigate their little flings and she had always seemed mature for her age.
She could only imagine what Raina's parents - any one of them - would say. Heh. She'd heard a few stories, having both Mikael and Raina in her Court and close at hand.
One furred arm moved to surround the sheet-wrapped waist and tug it closer while she let her body relax into the mattress. Mmm. No moving required until breakfast arrived. "I asked the kitchen for meat, you little minx. I've already stuffed myself with muffin." And oh, she had to be young enough to blush at that. Donnie smirked and tilted her head to watch the young woman's face. It could be so fun to tease. However adult she was, there were buttons that were still delightfully there to be pushed. She wasn't too old to be embarrassed like that.

There was something oddly comforting about Donnie, Raina had come to find over the course of the time she'd spent at the Court. Perhaps it was simply bred of familiarity - the Wolverine was the first person Raina had really spent any time with since she'd left her home and her family. There was a lot to be said for that kind of comfort. But there was something else, too, something different. She just liked the Queen - not love, no, but genuine like. Donnie was clever, witty, sarcastic. Donnie was interesting in a way the human girl had imagined no one outside of her family could be.
Maybe that was why it had been so long since she'd last gone home to visit her parents. She'd found her own place here, and - much to her surprise - felt happy.
That happiness was reflected in a smile that curled across her lips, sparkling purple eyes half-lidded as she moved as the Queen indicated, bringing her body close. When Donnie spoke, Raina watched her closely. Then she did blush.
Well then.
"Is that possible?" She managed to return a moment before she hid her face in the thick fur once more, trying to hide her blush. Being embarrassed by the evidence of her embarrassment had the terrible effect of deepening her blush, prolonging it. Great. Once she felt the moment had passed, she pulled back to look at the woman once more, some traces of pink still evident on her skin despite her best efforts. "Meat sounds great. Then after that...?" She didn't want to be too pushy, but she was excited for this opportunity.

Donnie very manfully - well, 'womanfully' - didn't laugh at the duck-and-hide. Raina would be able to feel a slight shaking in her sides, but she didn't let it out. She waited instead for the girl to reveal herself again and planted a wet nose against her ear, hopefully earning a squirm while she finally did laugh.
"I'm not sure if it's possible. But after breakfast, you can get dressed and look like a respectable member of the Court again, and then you can come to my office for your Quest. How does that sound?" There was favoritism here, obviously blatant favoritism, but she at least wanted to make it appear as though she'd gone through all official means in doing this.
Breakfast came.
Raina was going to be her King. And this sausage was going in her stomach. She chewed contentedly. A few more minutes of relaxed morning, a few more inappropriate jokes, and she left the girl in her room to compose herself while she went to her office.

Well, that was certainly not what she'd been expecting! Donnie's nose-poke did get a squirm out of the teen as well as a laugh of her own. That tickled! Beyond that, it was cold, in sharp contrast from the heat Raina's face had been surrounded in while she'd been hiding her blush. As soon as the nose was removed, the Solandrian leaned in, pressing her lips against that pink nose, her laugher calming to a giggle and then fading away entirely.
Though her cheeks were in a full blush once again. Oh well. There was no real point in hiding it, was there? Especially since Donnie seemed to approve of it.
"Sounds like a plan to me." Raina replied easily, taking a deep breath and letting it out in a happy sigh. She understood the need for them to be at least somewhat diplomatic in this, and that was fine. Sleeping with the Queen initially had been to serve a purpose, but that was before Raina had found exactly how much fun it could be. How much fun Donnie could be, too, especially when she had the woman alone. Like now.
Breakfast went.
Almost too quickly, if Raina was honest with herself. She was enjoying the casual attitude, and as much as she was eager to undergo her Quest, she was also a little nervous about it. She was confident that she'd earn a position for herself, but all the same... This was what she'd been working all her life to achieve. As soon as Donnie had left, Raina slipped into the shower, using the Yarrow shampoo her father had given her when he'd learned of her departure. She loved the smell of it, and he was sure Donnie did too.
Then she changed back into her silver-embellished dress, combing her thick mane into some semblance of order. It was a quick walk to Donnie's office from her room, but it was more than enough time for her heart to start to pound just a little bit quicker from excitement. She knocked at the door, and when invited, opened it and stepped in. "I'm ready for my Quest, Your Majesty," a deep bow was given, her eyes closing as she lowered her head.

Donnie settled into her office chair, thanked the attentive young woman who brought her a cup of tea, and stared into the china reflectively. She hadn't really thought about a Quest for Raina before now. She was going to have to come up with something on the fly. Something simple, but not insulting. She didn't want an inordinately long period of time to pass, and she didn't want the girl away from their work for ages.
She was about to take a sip of the tea and then paused, actually focusing on the tiny bits of leaf remnant in the bottom of the cup.
Hmm.
Raina would see the Queen smiling when she rose from her bow, a little bit of a smirk in the expression. "Good. I also hope that you're ready to travel a little bit." She paused, relishing the moment, and then leaned forward. "I remember hearing you say that you'd never been to the Yarrow, which is a real shame. Same about the Villa. Your quest will involve one of these realms. Make your choice."

Part of the anxiety came from the fact that Raina was stepping into an unknown. She didn't know what to expect from her own Quest. She and Donnie had made up impossible quests together before, laughing to themselves about the poor saps who just weren't Court material that these Quests would be given to. It didn't seem possible at this point - after all, the girl had worked her ass off to show the Queen that regardless of age, she was ready for this - but there was still a lingering fear that she would be given one of these impossible Quests. That would be Donnie's own way of telling her that she was good in bed - but little else.
No. That wasn't going to happen. Raina was confident. If it did - well then, she'd just have to work hard, wouldn't she? Her father, Seth... He'd never accept impossible, would he?
So she was smiling as well when she straightened from her bow, purple eyes bright with confidence. "Of course," she replied, unable to keep the hint of curiosity out of her tone. Travel? What, exactly, had the Queen cooked up for her? This was getting interesting fast. The next question was also a bit of a surprise, and Raina mulled the options over carefully. She'd met a few Villas, but the Yarrow... Now that was an interesting place, one that almost all of her family had been unable to explore for one reason or another.
"As much as I would love to see the Villa one day, I believe that my choice will be the Gardens. It's the only realm no one in my family has been able to travel to, and if I'm already breaking quite a few "traditions". Why stop now?" An easy smile worked its way onto the girl's face.

Donnie's smile likewise widened when the choice was made. "Oh, good. I haven't had that one in longer. Just a moment."
Pushing her chair back, she opened one of the drawers in her desk and rummaged around for a moment. She would have pulled it out earlier, but she hadn't been sure which of the two options Raina would pick. Finally she came back up with two pieces of paper and beckoned the girl closer. One of them had writing and the other was a picture. Of a flower.
"This is a picture of a Yarrow Moonchild," the wolverine explained, looking down at the picture with a small quirk to her lips. "It grows in fresh water, only in the Gardens, and you can only really tell it apart from the reeds at night when its blossoms unfold and it begins to glow. It also releases spores at that time, so it's an easy way to spot that you're in the right area in the evening. It makes an extremely delicate, extremely delicious tea that's always best fresh. It loses its potency and much of its flavor after only a month, so you can imagine that it doesn't store well without magical interference. If you want some, it's always safer to have someone dry and powder it fresh while you watch so that you aren't cheated and given nearly expired tea."
She handed over the picture, and also pushed forward the piece of paper. "This is the name and address of one of my aunts. If you go and approach her politely, she'll be able to help you out. She promised me tea for my birthday, but neither of us have had the opportunity to travel."
