Yes, he could see this boy terrorizing his tutors into submission. Zeki had had to be very polite and attentive with his own, which he hadn't minded at all, but now he was thinking he'd missed out on a great lot of fun. School sounded like both education and a playground for the imaginative. And animals! He loved animals. Plus, there were even MORE kids at a school, which meant that Zeki could have enough friends to form his own gang--of friends, not criminals, as Zeki did not advocate most gang activity, except the secret handshake. He would have the best handshake of all.
"Mostly Dad teaches me," he said, "and I do a lot of work on my own." Brilliance struck! "You should tell your mom to tell my dad to put me in whatever school you go to. Or will be going to. He'll listen to her. Your mama can be scary."

Kaden let out a great and cheerful laugh before quickly subduing it with a glance over his shoulder. Mum wasn't here, but someone in the kitchen might overhear his exuberance and tattle. It had happened before and he had learned, the hard way, that there was no going against The Word of Mom.
Quieter, but with equal enthusiasm, Kaden continued. "You're brilliant Zeki! That's a great idea! We'd make an amazing team!" Immediately Kaden's mind was wandering to all the amazing things he could do with an accomplice. An accomplice with hands! "I'm sure, with a little work, I could convince Mum of that." It would probably just mean being real good for a while. "Mom is scary, but she's the best in the world."
For all her rules and strictness Kaden wouldn't have traded her for any mom in the world.

This was shaping into an immensely productive day. He had made a new friend and possibly weaseled his way into an actual school, which opened up an even bigger range of possibilities. If he could assemble his--happy!--gang, he would be unstoppable. Kaden he suspected would be an excellent gang leader.
Alas, he could not remain at Loretta's forever. Free-range children were common in Corvistowne, but his dad had rules, and Zeki generally respected them. He was quite saddened when he had to leave Kaden and return to his own place. But he left secure in the knowledge that the great machinery of the universe would engineer circumstances perfectly so that Kaden's mom would be able to talk his dad into letting him attend. One had only to have faith in the machine!
And learn how to whine in a very heart-rending and pathetic way.
