((Takio can barely see through the smoke...he seems to have woken up outside of an old empty bar...last thing he remembers is looking for his daughter...
The place is cold and he can hear someone calling through the smoke...looks like he'd better get searching.))

The smoke was not making this situation any easier. Sergei rubbed at his eyes, feeling them start to water, and stared blearily into it. Not that it mattered, he couldn't see a thing - it was only because of his proximity to the other that he was able to keep track of their locations. While his eyes were useless, though, his ears could pick up on voices, and he perked his head up. People? With any luck, it would be someone who could help them out, and he started forward with renewed vigor. "Hey! I think there's someone over here!" He announced, sounding almost excited.
It would be good to find someone else. Zhenya was excellent company, but Bristol gave him the heebie-jeebies and everything about Cat was just... wrong. He wanted, if at all possible, to get away from her.
Even if she did make something in the back of his head stir, as if remembering... something.
He yelped softly when Bristol darted forward, feeling the hairs on the back of his neck prickle. "Hey, where did you go?! Come ba-- oh. Hi." Of course, the young man hadn't gone far at all, and it only took a few steps before he came back into view. Embarrassed, he ducked his head. "Uh - that's a great idea. If you give me a boost, I can probably reach it?" He kept having to climb things, but... That was the benefit to having a bipedal form.
Still shaken, Cat followed in silence. She found herself gravitating towards Zhenya when Bristol had vanished into the mist, her glassy eyes locked on him. "Why you say Cat good?" She asked in a quiet voice, clacking her beak. Her limping meant she was a few steps behind, but never out of sight. "Cat always good..."
Finally, they stopped walking. The girl wasn't really paying attention to the others, instead looking up into the smoke, taking deep breaths and opening her mouth to taste the air. "Voices gone..."

Zhenya was unnerved by the sudden approach of the flesh-eating bird hybrid, but he fought to squelch his natural urge to flinch and inch away--he wanted to hide himself behind Sergei, in point of fact, but that was such a babyish thing to do, wasn't it? That wasn't was good detectives did, he told himself, and he was trying so very hard to channel that spirit. He was supposed to be calm and know everything. Even Cat's motives and thoughts.
"Because," he said, biting his lip, and scooting himself subconsciously in the direction of Sergei. "Because--because you have to understand, most people don't...um....eat other people. It's capital-B Bad. That is something a villain does to show just how evil they are. Like having their way with ladies, whatever that means. But you're also a lady, so if something bad happens to you--like with your arm!--you get Sympathy. And that means you can put your evil behind you and be good. I think--I think you can be good."
He was so engrossed in the narrative--which gave him a great deal of comfort in the face of Cat--that he didn't notice anything about the voices. The smoke was also beginning to dissipate. The alley was empty. Zhenya shuddered.
"Come on," he told Sergei, surprised at how pleading he sounded. "Don't go up there. We need to get to--get to the pub, remember? That's where the answers are."
He wasn't going to let the Narrative fall apart if he could help it.

(( The smoke clears a little, leaving behind it nothing... The voices have also faded...how painfully creepy.
Around another corner though, they begin to hear cries! Loud shouts and a sharp, acrid smell of smoke...a different kind from before..., and small dark blobs of something on fire begin shooting past them! Quickly, get to those voices, they may be your only chance to get away! As they get closer, they'll see an enormous old shopp set ablaze with people gathered out in front of it... Good luck.))[This thread has come to an end.
