Castiel was blissfully unaware of the boy's crush on her. It was mostly because she never really thought of anyone in "that way." And honestly if she had known about the boy's crush she probably would have avoided the subject at all costs.
She sipped the soda cheerfully. She took a slight break to look at the boy with some smug satisfaction. "I'm really glad you guys came with me. I don't know what I would have done if I had been alone there...."
She shifted in her seat. "Next time I decide to go on an adventure I'm going to have some more magic under my belt so I can be useful."
Conall was slowly making his way back. The bander was finally done and seemed to be willing to drag him back to the in. Maybe he could bath it in a fountain before returning? It had managed to get some of his oils on it. Guh. Maybe one day he could find away around the stupid bog oils? There had to be some way of neutralizing the nightmare. Why couldn't he been something normal?

Arkady felt a sort of blissful contentment as they both sipped at the soda. He knew, knew that Castiel was too good for him. But here, now, while they were sharing a drink, he could pretend, just for a second, that he wasn't the shyest person on the planet. That he wasn't slightly neurotic and terrible with words. For that moment, it was just Cas and Ark together, alone out of all the world. And it was lovely. Perfect, even.
Of course, like all good things, the moment had to come to an end. He also took a little break from the soda when she did, smiling at her, tail wagging quickly. "Hey...of course. What are friends for, Cas?" And then she was going to blame herself for what happened again. No, that was no good. He leaned across the table and gave her hand a small lick. "He just got the jump on you." But of course, more magic was always good. And the other Realms they were going to visit wouldn't be anywhere near as dangerous as Tulgey. He hoped.

"That's not really an excuse is it?" she said with a note of disappointment in her voice. "I could have got us killed, and I should have been more prepared. The water shouldn't have thrown me off as bad as it did."
She poked at the straw lamely. Castiel honestly felt like crap about the entire ordeal. It had been a simple idea to sneak into the wood and spy on the residents, but she had never thought that they would be attacked in the way they were. She should have.
The human shifted awkwardly in her seat, a small blush on her face. "Thanks for being a great friend," she said before taking another long sip of the ice cream soda.
Conall was making his way back with a damp bander and a bagged leash and collar. At least he had managed to find someone willing to help him with the cleaning her up. Even if Torquehelms were terribly dreary they were at least a little helpful. Dirty looks or not.
He slipped back into the inn, the bander trotting ahead of him and scurrying over to the girl's feet. It rubbed up against her, still sightly damp from its adventures in a fountain.
Conall was slowly making his way across the room. He stopped dead, however, when he noticed the soda with two straws. His face utterly blank and unreadable.

Arkady shook his head. "Those branches were so thick, he got the jump on all of us. Even my Spade seeing abilities weren't enough to look through the shadows and see him lurking." It was true, too. He'd tried. He really hated to see her so upset about anything, but he especially hated to see her so down on herself. It just wasn't right for someone so utterly wonderful to be so sad. He longed for that sweet little smile to come back. He watched as she took a sip of the soda, ears going back a little.
She said she was happy he was a good friend...but Ark thought he could be a much better one if he was...well...not as quiet. Or maybe he could even be more than a friend, then. Of course, right on cue, there was a Bander snuffling around Cas's feet, and Ark froze. He didn't turn to look at Conall. He didn't have to in order to imagine the look on the other boy's face. Finally, he turned to look and waved a bit stiffly. But he didn't say anything. What could he say? 'This was her idea'? 'This isn't what it looks like?' All true, maybe...but those statements weren't going to stop Conall from being upset about this.

Castiel wasn't sure if he was trying to make her feel better or not. She would have said something if it weren't for the fact that there was suddenly a bander at her feet. She let out a cheerful cry as the creature hopped up onto her lap. She ran her fingers through the damp creature's fur. Apparently Conall had taken her for a bath!
The boy silently deposited the bag on the table and pulled up a seat. He gave Arkady a rather blank look. He seemed to make a motion to wave that wasn't completed, instead he turned and grabbed one of the waitresses and gave them a quick order.
He then turned back to the table. His expression still blank even though he was filled with a combination of jealousy and anger he was doing his best not to let it show. However creepy that made him he honestly couldn't tell. "So. Did I miss something?"
Castiel blinked, looking back to Arkady and then to Conall. "No?" she said with mild confusion.

Arkady honestly meant what he said; he really didn't see Castiel as weak in any way. To him, she was the most important part of the group. She took the risks, she planned things out, and she was cheerful and optimistic even in bad situations. Those were qualities he admired about her. His tail beat a little, hopeful wag, but of course the moment was interrupted.
Arkady said nothing as Conall pulled up a chair, looking cold and calm, though he could almost smell the tension in the other boy's mood. He fought to keep from drawing back at all. He had done nothing he needed to be ashamed of, despite how much part of him wanted to apologize until Conall was no longer angry. It wasn't that simple, this time. He shook his head at the question. "No, Conall. We were just talking. And having soda." He met the other boy's eyes, trying to get him to see the honesty there and trying not to look pathetic. He just wanted them to all get along and have fun. Just because they were in the 'cursed' region didn't mean they couldn't have fun...or maybe it was because of that curse that all this bad stuff was happening to Conall and their friendship was in jeopardy? Could the curse affect visiting non-natives?

Castiel wrinkled her nose a bit at Conall's expression. What was his problem? She scratched her bander between the ears and let it curl up on her lap before taking another long sip of the soda.
She looked back to Arkady when he spoke. She nodded. "Oh! And we were talking about going to the Mid-Range and Hisstor. I figured we could take a trip[ to the Mid-Range since its a fairly safe region and after this I'm sure our parents are going to be a bit upset. You know, getting into trouble and all that." She could lie about how she got the wounds, but she had still received them, and that could only be hidden for so long.
Conall was staring. He didn't mean to do it, but it was the only thing he could do without wanting to scream. His ears twitched at the sounds around them. People were making comments about him. Them. Mostly him and Castiel being out of place.
Ugh. People.
"The Mid-Range sounds nice.... " he said as he glanced around for the waitress. "But Hisstor? I can guess why you would want to go there but.... would Arkady be able to handle the heat?"
He looked at the boy with narrowed eyes.

Oh, this just sucked. It seriously just...sucked. Conall was just bound and determined to be a total jerk to him for the rest of the day. Possibly for the rest of his life. Arkady nearly whimpered at that depressing thought. Since nothing he said had seemed to help, he just stayed quiet and took a sip of the soda. Of course, by some trick of fate, his drink was at nearly the same time Cas had also decided to have a sip. Uh, whoops.
He pulled back a little quickly, face heating up in that blush again. He nodded a little bit to Cas as she spoke, then hesitantly looked back at Conall. And found the boy...glaring at him. And he said something very rude, never mind that it was probably true. Arkady frowned and hunched a little over in his seat. Why was Conall acting like this was all somehow his grand scheme to win Cas over or something, when they were all her ideas? Maybe...maybe Cas just liked spending time with her friends! And maybe...if she DID ever...return his feelings, Ark wanted it to be natural. To be -her- choice.
"It would be fine," he objected quietly. "I can make water." True, that wasn't going to help him with suffering from potential overheating. His mind flitted to a barber in the Capital who his brother and sister had both gone to in order to let them visit Midori Beach, but then he wouldn't have thick enough fur to visit his homeland!

Conall would probably "get over" the situation once he realized that Castiel had no intention to pick one over the other. Until then he was going to be a bit of a bastard. He shifted in his seat at the boy's response. "Yeah, but according to books the weather out there can make a normal person pass out from heat exhaustion, I can't imagine what it would do to someone with fur as thick as yours."
Castiel frowned. Conall did have a point, and she did always seem to lack the ability to plan for circumstances like that. She glanced at the two boys. Was it her imagination or was there more tension than usual? They weren't the best of friends, but they were at least more friendly than this most of the time,
"I don't know what's going on here, but if you two want to be catty I'll take my leave. I hope you two sort out whatever is bothering you." She pushed the little bander off her lap, patting it on the head as she stood up. She left a bit of money on the table before smiling and leaving to the two to go upstairs.
Conall found himself staring at the other boy, looking like he had been smacked in the face by Castiel. He muttered something to sounded similar to "sorry."
