Felix's own breath caught in his throat as he saw how...scared and vulnerable Eldy looked. He stood still, watching her, feeling concerned. Why was she suddenly so afraid? He wanted nothing more than to run to the Feline, sweep her into a bear hug, and promise her everything would be okay. But...that would be crossing some sort of boundary, something he hadn't been given permission to do. Still, the need to just...hold her burned in him. As she began to cry, tears plastering the purple fur of her 'mask' down to her muzzle, he found himself moving back over to her.
But at those words...those magical words that affected Felix more than she'd ever know...he went to her. He climbed up onto the bed with shaking limbs and wrapped her in a fluffy, quilly, tight hug. After that...there was only one response. There was only one thing Felix could ever answer when someone said -that- to him. "I won't leave you," he promised, voice hitching a bit. Slowly, one arm still wrapped around her, his used his other to fix the blankets, to bring them over the two of them.

His promise made something in her that was tight suddenly loosen and let go. Eldy's breathing leveled out to normal again, and she took a deep breath, and let it out, feeling the fear evaporate like so many water droplets as his arms wrapped around her. She could feel the strength his body held, and it made her feel safe. She borrowed her head into his chest. He smelled like rain, and lake water, and some heavy sort of musk. But she didn't mind, much.
"Thank you," she mumbled, feeling the blankets wrapping around both of them. She tensed, just for a second, but the warmth of his embrace reassured her that there was no water, no lake, no chance of drowning. She wasn't alone. Funny, how it frightened her so much more now, after the fact, than it had when she was actually out there. No, it really was funny. She giggled against him, and it turned into a full purr, the leftover adrenaline from the fear making her feel almost giddy.
She looked up at his face, and giggled more over her purring at the way Felix was blushing. "I'm not really tired," she said on a breath. "I also didn't...really...thank you for saving me." Feeling daring, Eldy leaned up to delicately lick his chin. Felix made an odd sort of squeaking sound, and Eldy merely laughed and kissed him properly.

When Felix woke up the next morning, she was gone. The bed felt cold and empty, and there was a spot on the sheets that was still flat from where she had been sleeping. It was no longer warm. She'd left long before he woke up. There was also no sign of her downstairs, or outside on the rocks near the lake, still a bit slick from last night's storm. By that point though, he wasn't expecting it.
Still, Felix felt unusually solemn as he ate his breakfast that morning. Upon returning to the guest room to straighten it, he saw something he'd overlooked before--a note on the dresser, set under the oil lamp. It read, quite simply, 'thank you'. Well. That seemed a little cold and distant, especially after...
Felix shook his head. He didn't know why he'd expected Eldy to be any different than any of the other girls that had warmed his bed for a night. A little, easily ignored voice whispered that it was because of what she'd said to him...she'd asked him to stay, and he had, but she hadn't. Gone as soon as she got the chance. She was definitely too good for him, Felix knew this, and yet...he couldn't help but wonder if he'd ever see her again.
Bah, he was thinking too much about this. It was time to move on. No sense dwelling on might-have-beens. Felix went out to find his favorite bar. It was nearly noon anyway, so it wasn't too early to get a little drunk and have a good time.
