Viast snorted as the spell hit her, stumbling backwards and shaking her head. "Whoa, whoa! Sir! I just got here about two minutes ago!" The Jack shook her head again, wishing the man's eyes would stop glowing like that...it really disturbed her. "Of course I was going to help them, I just had to check the house to see if the murderer was still here. I'm on the Lowland rescue party, they've been killin' us all, sir!"
She whipped out a scimitar from her belt, the thing glowed a little, threateningly. "Regain your senses, Sir. I don't want to hurt a fellow Lowlander. 'M sorry for the loss of your Heart, but it 'twasn't me what did it. It was probably the Josiggies, sir. They've been all over."

He took a step inside the door frame, keeping his gaze on her. His stare was almost that of a predator watching it's prey and waiting, calculating the perfect time to move in. But he didn't attack, or make any real move to.... just stared.
When she said she'd only been there for about two minutes almost made him laugh, she'd definitely been there a bit longer then that... his investigation of the basement was probably that long at least. The next thing she said, however, he decided to test and activated another ability of his, his lie detector. If she was telling the truth he'd relax and stand in a more normal, comfortable position. If she was lying, he'd do the exact opposite.
When she pulled the weapon from her belt Maraisa got a little more excited about the situation. It wasn't exceptionally likely that it was a summoned weapon, but the possibility was there and if it was, well... she'd be quite insistent about getting out.
Strong Magical Ability: When activated, he can cast a lie-detector spell on a card off any suit and of a rank lesser or equal to his own, once per day. Cards of equal rank would be aware of the spell, but cards of lesser rank would not.

((She is telling the truth with exception to the fact that she has been here for about 12 minutes, not two.))

Well, he was right about the time thing being wrong.... but she was telling the truth in all aspects that mattered and his muscles loosened up and he stood in a more relaxed position. He tilted his polearm up and set the base on the ground and looked away for a moment, toward where he'd left the other two, and then back .... that eerie glow slipping away.
You're telling the truth in the right areas, so I've no bone with you ... yet. Tell me more about what's going on while I get a few things. Oh, and to answer your question, you are in my home.
He turned and stepped toward his bed before kneeling down, having ot set his weapon down in the process, and shoving his bed over. He reached into the pocket inside his suit top and got a little key which he used to open up one of the floor boards. He pulled out a small box, he kept his glass talons in it, and a dark bag that looked to made out of a dark, flexible plastic; sleeping powder made by his mother himself. He tucked them each into different pockets, relocked the secret door and pulled the bed back into place before picking up his weapon and standing once more.
He'd been listening though, just as he said he would.

Viast relaxed a little, her shoulders rolling forward as she gestured to him. "All right, sir, but really? What's there to tell? The Josiggy, they're invadin', we knew it's happen someday, but here it is. Killin' us all, an' they hit up this place too, if y'haven't been able to tell." She shrugged. "Me n' a good number of others, were tryin' to get our people out of various places, like th' Range and Capital...we were too late for most here, but we got a good bunch out of the Range." She stared anywhere but at the man, not wanting to meet those eyes again.
"Well, let's get the kiddoes and get out of here then, I can get you directly to the Lowlands with them, no problem."
She headed by him over to the bloated looking girl by the door, giving her a mildly curious look. "You don't look too good, m'dear... Feelin' sick?" She asked, giving the poor thing a little pat. She gazed back at the man as he re-emerged from his room, not knowing what he'd retrieved from it. "Is she yours?"

He shrugged, as he straightened up his clothing, was this whole... thing... really that common-knowledge?
I've never bothered investing my time an energy into it. I've got better things to do.
This silly war must have been part of the large portion of things his mother tried to tell him about that he just didn't care to listen to. now, the gory details were fascinating, the cause? Not so much.
He rolled his eyes at her next comment, too late for most here? Duh. Really, in his own opinion of course, the Capital would have been a more productive starting zone. Hadn't he heard that at least some of the Range supported the Lowlands? The Capital wasn't quite as forgiving, he'd seen a few of his region getting the snot kicked out of them in alleyways. He didn't care, but he'd witnessed it.
He nodded at her comment about the little fuzzballs, not quite absorbing everything she said until they exited his bedroom. At that time he couldn't help himself and burst into laughter at the very thought. It actually struck him as so funny that he hand to lift a hand to wipe tears from the corners of his eyes.
you.... expect me to go there? Really? Dearie, you've got to have a little rot up in your brain if that's the case.
Why would I have any inclination to go to such a retched place?
He used this time to pull both his jacket and undershirt to the side enough to shamelessy display the red 'Q' that he'd worn since birth.
There's no way my children will ever have to step a foot into that place if they don't want to.
And then he turned his attention to Mirai, sending her a cheerful looking little grin. She'd actually listened, the skunk was gone... but she'd at least kept her word.
No, she's not mine but she's been rather helpful .... found her on the way here. Her name is Mirai.
[[Gods he's such an ass, I'm sorry >.<]]

Oh, Suits...
The things she'd seen down below would not leave Mirai's mind, no matter how she tried to force them from her. The twisted smile on the dead Highlander, the children... One who's rot looked natural (as natural as Lowland rot could be, at any rate), and one who seemed to have been... nibbled on...
But as bad as what she'd seen had been, it barely held a candle compared to the smell. Even thinking about it again made her stomach twist violently within her, and she forced herself to stay calm. Panicking just wasn't going to help anyone... What on earth had happened, here? It was terrible. Even now, she couldn't completely wipe the smell from her mind, it clung to her nose like glue and the air up above was still tainted by its sickly-sweetness.
She just needed... some time.
The throwing up had only made herself feel worse, her body stiff and awkward. Oddly, though, it had done nothing for the bloating. he met Mo's smile with a weak one of her own, but then stopped to actually consider her physical state and she felt her stomach seize up again. She raised watery eyes to the Cow, lips quivering as she tried not to frown. "I don't... I don't feel too well." She whimpered.

Viast's look of concern for the girl slowly slid into one of incredulity. She stood and gave the man behind her an expression befitting someone slapped with a fish. "You can't mean that." She said, a little, fake laugh coming out as though she desperately hoped he was going to wave his hands and say "haha, kidding!"
"You can't mean that, Sir. There's a war going on out there! Whatever your qualms with our Realm may be...look, I don't care. I don't care if you're a- Wow, you're a Queen...wow. I- no! That won't help you, you don't get it, do you, if you stay here, they'll kill you and the kids."
She stared at him, pleading, seeing no pity or care on his face. She would have curled her lip, had she any. "You must be the one with rot for brains, sir. Do what you like then, on your own head be it. Mirai, was it? Would you like to come with me, dearie? Maybe we can get that looked at."
((She gestures to the girl's swollen stomach, which almost looks like it's getting worse by the second. Giving Mo and his house a sad look, she tries to get Mirai to leave with her.))

The arguing was difficult to listen to. While a lot of the impact of what was being said escaped the girl, she did get the general gist of it - after all, growing up with the people she did and in the place she did, she was all too familiar with the Lowlander Issue.
Her adopted brothers would be horrified, but... These seemed like good people, to her. They'd taken her off the street when she'd been alone and lost, and now they were offering to help get her medical care.
Beyond that, the Cow seemed trustworthy. Something about her was soothing to the Canine/Deer, comforting in a way she needed most desperately at this point. It was likely something maternal, and the girl clung to that. She gave a weak little nod in response to the question that had been leveled at her, but then she froze, lower lip quivering. Slowly, she looked up at the Human, her eyebrows furrowed in a most pathetic way. "Please, sir... Is it alright if I go with them?" Something in her tone implied that she would really like to have the man come along as well, though she wasn't going to ask... She knew she had no right to do so.
But Suits, she felt terrible. She curled in slightly, a sharp yelp of pain escaping her as she seemed to balloon up ever so slightly.

The look on her face didn't phase him in the least bit, he'd spent a good portion of his life using people to accomplish his own goals and pleasures and had never let any looks or pleading sway him before... why now? Why someone who's face was rotting off? He only had room in his life for a few of those, and all the slots were filled by blood... so.... nope, he really didn't give a damn. however, her acknowledgment of his rank cause a rather smug little smirk to tug at his lips.
Be had a little problem, he had a whole lot of vengeance to unleash.... but five little fuzzballs to get to someplace safer. Perhaps she'd make a little compromise? He knew a place for them to go that was probably loads safer then the Lowlands, with people he'd actually trust them too.
Look, I don't trust the Lowlands, but I've got a place that's safer, with a Queen and King I'd trust my own life as well.
He narrowed his eyes and looked beyond Mirai down into the darkness of the basement, his lip curling back again.
I have to find the one responsible for this. I have to.
He tightened his grip on the marble handle of his pole arm as a bit of that pent up anger bubbled up to the surface.
