Zuberi sucked in a breath that escaped in a rushed, sobbing laugh. Of course he couldn't tell her with great accuracy; with how self-conscious the woman was of the spikes that normally stuck out of her spine, she'd never let him see her that way. Her eyes squeezed shut as she tried to shut out the noise of the crying child, and take in the words that Apocalypse had to tell her. He'd spoke of the child's ears and tail. They-they were squirrel? She knew the man had known that much about her. Slowly her eyes opened, and it was obvious that she was considering his words deeply with how her expression changed. Though it was difficult to tell which way the off-colored orbs were looking, it was obvious that they were darting to and fro as she absorbed what he was telling her and processing them. Even the sightless white eye quivered slightly as it scoured the images permanently bored into her memory of the child.
Before she could look down though, Apocalypse informed her that Heilyn was at the door. Bringing up a shaking hand to wipe away her tears, she gave a weak nod. So much of her wanted desperately to believe what the Bog man was saying to her. But... how could she love this child when looking at it brought her so much pain? The child's screams now lessened into quiet whimpers, snuffling and squirming against her chest
At the sight of the Human female in the doorway, Charlie's feathers ruffled and he leapt from the bed, scurrying away into the other room.

Heilyn watched the pair of them for a moment, allowing herself a small smile. It was rather touching, the interaction between the two of them. Heilyn was happy Pale was allowing exceptions in his hatred for Clubs. She walked in when she was waved in and took a seat on the bed next to Zuberi.
"Hey you," she said, brushing a lock of hair back. "Good you see you." Thank the Suits. She turned to look at the child. Blue hair. Shame. Hisstor? The man she'd fought didn't look like he had a scrap in him. Maybe he was a mix or something. She gave the child a touch.
"How are you holding up?"

Behind Zuberi's strange eyes, Apocalypse found it hard to read her emotions. He wanted some sign of how she felt - all he saw was revulsion in regards to her child. In some ways, he understood why. After all, he'd given birth to an unwanted child once, though not nearly to this degree. He had at least been given the benefit of not knowing that his babe was the product of something unwanted until the day of her birth, and so he'd been able to try and love her while he carried her.
Zuberi hadn't had that luxury. She'd known from day one that she had something hateful by its very nature growing inside of her, and now, it was as if her worst fears had come to pass. Apocalypse swallowed, glancing from infant to mother nervously.
He'd tried to kill Linnea. He didn't think that this was a risk with Zuberi, but he couldn't be sure. He didn't want her to do something she'd regret.
Luckily, Heilyn stepped into the room a moment later, pulling his attention away from his inner turmoil. He gave the woman a small smile, just a glimmer of fang showing for a second before his almost stricken expression returned. He kept quiet, however, deciding he'd let the two women talk for now and simply act as a stabilizing force of sorts for Zuberi. Hopefully, Heilyn would be able to uncover quickly if there was an actual problem.
Actual problems, he could deal with. It was the "what-ifs" that were tricky.

Zuberi's grief-stricken face softened at the sight of the woman, tired face giving the smallest of forced smiles. "Hey..." She responded weakly, but seemed suddenly very distracted with looking around the room when asked how she was. Zuberi didn't -know- how she was, or how she should feel. For some reason she couldn't find it within herself to lie and say that she was fine.
Apocalypse looked... horrible. Why did he seem so upset? The midwife was still in the corner, cleaning up the mess and allowing the three adults to sort out the situation. With a grunt, she stepped over that blasted ace chicken that seemed to have nothing better to do than be underfoot.
Charlie ducked out of the way of the midwife's feet, scurrying underneath a desk to watch the scene from afar. Why was everyone so upset? The Ace could not understand. The child was different for sure.. nothing like his Master, but perhaps that was the problem. It wasn't what his Master had wished for. Was it truly a reason to be upset, though? After all, Charlie had not received the items he'd wished for during the Winter solstice, but he was thankful for what he'd gotten.
Again, the child began to cry. Zuberi's face twisted back into a pained expression as she looked around at the two helplessly. "She just won't stop crying! What is wrong with her?" Everything was wrong with the child, of course. It was a dirty monster that had lived parasitically off of her for months, yet even now she felt... frantic that the child was crying.

Yes, everything in the woman's body language and her eyes told her how much she was forcing that smile. She let the lack of an actual answer go. She wouldn't force anything of Zuberi, not now. She lowered her usual intimidating aura and reversed it. she then extended her arms out to her and nodded at the baby, indicating she would take the crying infant. After a moment's hesitation, Heilyn was gathering the weakly flailing newborn into her arms.
"Sadly, this is perfectly normal for babies to do. There is nothing wrong with her. It'll take some getting used to," she said with a gentle smile as she gently bounced the baby. She turned her face down to the little Hisstor, "Shhhshshh."
Boost: She can now slightly reverse her aura to make her seem more comforting and trusting if she focuses on the creature or if it is important to her.

The small infant's wails slowly subsided, thrashing and grasping limbs pulling up toward her body as she settled. Still, she nosed around fussily, but nothing like before. It wasn't fear that was guiding any sort of reaction now but more a need for food.
It figured that Heilyn could soothe the child when she could not. Zuberi blinked back the tears at the very thought of her insufficiency as a maternal creature. Then again.. Heilyn had done this many more times than she had... not to mention that aura of hers. That must have been it, right? The only thing worse than feeling like she couldn't love her child properly was that she couldn't care for it either.
Silently, she watched the woman, who bounced the child with such practiced ease. Zuberi had found it so easy to do just that with Seth's children. Even the tiny human child was not too much of a challenge once she'd sorted out just how it needed to be carried and held. Perhaps her own child hated her... all that negative juju Zuberi had been putting off her entire pregnancy dripped into the girl's soul.

There was something occurring between the woman, some strange bonding that made Apocalypse feel oddly out of place. He was a mother; but unless he really thought about it, he had trouble recognizing that aspect of himself. He generally just saw himself as Linnea's father and didn't dwell on reality any more than he absolutely had to. Heilyn was a practiced mother, and Zuberi... Something about her struck him as motherly, some softness in her nature.
It was no wonder he felt so out of place, watching the pair of women care for the quailing infant. It was distracting enough that he didn't notice the look the Midori was giving him in the slightest, glancing down at her long after it had passed.
He did notice the dismay that crossed her expression when Heilyn took the little Hisstor and the crying began to subside. Slowly, Apocalypse forced himself to his feet once more, doing his best to ignore the aching of his injured body. He reached out, lightly stroking the woman's hair as he gave her a small smile. He had no way of knowing exactly what was going through her mind, but he could guess. "It's different when it's your own," he soothed as best he could, crawling up onto the bed beside her and folding his legs beneath himself, taking care not to jostle woman or babe as he settled in. He just sat there for a long moment, eyes looking from face to face.
Then he sighed lightly, reaching out to rest one hand atop Zuberi's. "Is there anything I can get you?" He asked softly, then looked up at Heilyn. "Either of you? Or her?" If they wanted him gone, this would be a convenient way to make that happen. He didn't want to be gone, but he'd lick his wounds over that in private.

Heilyn smiled softly as Pale made some very kind and touching gestures toward Zuberi. It was amazing how kind and gentle her false son could be, especially in light of what a destructive twat he was most of the time. Heilyn stroked the child's head and hummed at her, glancing over at Zuberi on occasion for any hint that she wanted her child back. She also did her best to hide her worry. Zuberi would make an incredible mother, but given the circumstances surrounding this child... how much of that would interfere? Would post-partem depression help bond mother and child, or just complicate things worse? She smiled softly and shook her head at Pale when he spoke to her.
"No, I don't need anything. It doesn't seem like she needs anything right now," she indicated the infant in her arms. She glanced at Zuberi again, but averted her eyes quickly. It wasn't out of guilt, she just didn't want to make the woman feel any more on the spot than she was.
