Mia regarded him curiously for a moment, then shrugged. "If you think you're up for the job, then it's yours. I'm sure you're much more qualified than I. I think someone was on drugs of some sort when they decided it was a good idea to send me looking for fabric." The ferret stated, then essentially slithered off the bench and to his feet.
He accepted the book and rifled through it for a few moments before he replied to the bird's question;he paced back and forth for a few moments, looking apparently lost in thought. Eventually he looked up. "Guest suites. Main color is supposed to be a pale lime, with emphasis colors being brown, white, silver, or any combination therein." He paused and pointed at one of the samples. "If at all possible, it's supposed to have a hint of the Spades emblem - not the exact thing, but enough to resemble it - but if you don't have anything in that range, that's fine as well." The ferret laid out, then gave the book back.
Mia stopped his pacing habit to frown at the bird. "Your own cake? That's no fun. How about this.. in exchange for helping me with this ridiculous fabric deal, I'll take care of your cake worries." He smiled as he offered the proposition. "All I ask in return is you find me some "unugly" curtains and enjoy it far more than I would."

Colin chuckled quietly at what he knew was the Queen's little joke, but he nodded, looking alert and ready to be of service. "Thank you, Your Majesty. I assure you I will find the best and most unugly curtains that I can," he said proudly. Out of habit, the Cardinal hopped to his feet was well when the Ferret did. You never wanted to offend a Queen, after all, and you could never be too careful.
It was fairly impossible to read his expression, which was mildly disconcerting, but Colin saw himself as up to the challenge. He nodded at the colors, committing the details to memory. "I see. That's very specific...but I actually think I might know just the thing." Accepting the book back, he began to turn the pages, looking for a very specific one...his mother had designed a line of fabrics that she had indeed based off the Suits and their symbols (which he hoped would be close enough to the official emblem) for some sort of baby clothes...there was no reason the same design could not be used on curtains...
He paused in his search at the offer, glancing up in some surprise. "Oh! Oh, your Majesty, there's really no need, though if you want to then of course I'd greatly appreciate the help." He had, after all, been looking at cakes all day and was quite thoroughly sick of it. Curtains would be a lovely change of pace. "Then should we perhaps meet back up at this spot after we've both had time to search? I can get a sample of the fabric today, and if you and the other nobles like it, my mother can have the curtains ready in just two days, depending how many you need of course. Is that to your liking Your Majesty?" It had been a long time since Colin was actually excited about his job.

"That, my friend, would be wonderful." He replied with a smile, though his hand was once again entwined in his dangling wires.
The ferret smiled a bit wider at the positive response. "Do you? Perfect." He nodded firmly, already having decided that he liked this man's enthusiasm. Just because he hated curtains didn't mean everyone else need do the same.
"Consider it a personal request." Mia said with a sly smile. He happened to know the perfect bakeshop just down the street that Quinn had gotten all of their cakes from their entire childhood; he hadn't been their in ages, but knew they'd remember him. Their chocolate cream was absolutely fabulous.
He nearly nodded, but paused. "No worries about the waiting or the asking or any of that sort of thing. They wanted me to find curtains and they'll just have to adore them even if they're butt ugly - Apologies to your mother, of course, as I doubt anything she creates is butt ugly." The ferret paused, then glared down at his stomach as if it had suddenly begun whispering nonsense to him. "How about this - you go get your samples or whatever it is curtains require, I'll go get cake, and we'll get some lunch? I apparently haven't eaten in..." Mia paused, mentally scratching out the word 'days', then continued, "... a while, and if you'd like to join me, we can discuss wonderful things such as curtain dimensions and why chocolate makes for excellent cake?"

Colin had to mentally tone down his grin a few notches, as how large he wanted to be smiling right then would have not only frightened and/or disgusted the Queen, but would also split his beak almost painfully. Still, he was beaming as he struck up this agreement with him. "Thank you very much, Queen," he was about to add 'Dysthymia' when he realized the Ferret had never actually offered his name, and so he left it at that, hoping it would not sound horribly awkward.
He laughed a bit, waving a wing in dismissal. "I know what you meant, yes, no offense taken. My mother will be thrilled to be working on something for a Court!" He nodded, amazed that the Queen was inviting him to lunch (amazed enough not to question the mysterious lack of an exact time period), and was quick (but not too quick!) to accept. "That sounds wonderful, Your Majesty. I would be honored to take lunch with you." He waited a moment to get the details and anything else the Queen may want to tell him. With a much more proper bow this time, Colin shoved the book back in his bag, and took off, knowing he could make it home and back in a little over an hour.
((ooc: time skip I presume? ^^;; ))

Mia realized how interested the bird was in this deal, and grinned slightly in response. It was a nice change of pace, not being argued with or cursed at or other such nasty things. Compliance - excitement, even! - was delightful and it was putting him in an unusually good mood. "No need. I can always use some company." Even when company sometimes didn't want him.
He nodded, wondering what this mother looked like and what she was like. The idea of mothers tended to scare him, especially as he was still stuck living with his horrific one, and he avoided meeting them at all costs. "She'll be paid well for her efforts as well; I don't like stingy people, so I try to avoid being one." The ferret did his best to ignore the over-excited expression and what followed; he appreciated the loyalty to the Court, but he wasn't used to have it being directed to him still.
(Indeed!)

Sure enough, it was just a little bit over an hour later that Colin touched down back at the bench, hoping that this was where the Ferret was going to meet him, since he had never mentioned what restaurant he wanted to eat at. Tucked safely into his bag was a large sample of the fabric he'd had in mind. It was lime green with a design strongly reminiscent of the spades symbol in silver, and undercurrents of brown as well. Just what the Queen seemed to want.
His mother had at first been confused to see him returning without a cake, but when he explained the situation she was (as he'd known she would be) positively overjoyed to be doing a commission for the Court of Spades, even if she herself was a Diamond. The fabric had not originally come in the colors Dysthymia had wanted, but his mother knew she could use the same basic design and alter it to specifications. Now all Colin had to do was show the design to the Queen, and then his mother could start on the curtains.
He looked around, wondering where the Ferret was. He was bright magenta and had silver things sticking out from him...he shouldn't be hard to spot!

Dysthymia whipped around a corner, his long, thick tail lightly smacking against a lamppost as he sailed past it. He was in an upbeat mood that was strange for the melancholy ferret, but the opportunity to have someone else do his errands had set his spirits soaring. He descended upon Colin with a quick grin and paused only to let the bird recognize his face before he waved at him to follow and began walking again.
"Hello! I hope you had as much success as I did!" Mia started, grinning over his shoulder. "The cake will be delivered during lunch, as I don't have the proper appendages to carry it and I figured you'd rather it not be mushy from falling repeatedly." He did a little skip, his claws flexing in demonstration.
"But I imagine you're wondering where we're going, eh?" He questioned, whipping around corners at his usual brisk pace. "it's an old favorite of mine, a grand little bistro right.. here!" Mia halted in front of a beautiful masterpiece of architecture, the main focal point being a giant arch setting it apart from the quaint, small stores next to it. "They should be expecting us."

Colin's back was turned initially as Mia came barrelling around the corner, so it was with a start (and a slight flufffing up of feathers) that the Cardinal noticed someone suddenly very close and...and as soon as he recognized the Ferret, he relaxed and smiled, bowing slightly. "Hello again, Your Majesty," Colin said, and felt a prickle of...anticipation about the cake. Finally, he would have something as close to his own birthday cake as he'd just about ever had! "Oh, well thank you! And yes, my mother is happy to make curtains for you. I have a sample of the fabric here..." But before he could bring it out, he realized the Queen was walking, and he had to half-walk half-flutter to catch up.
"Well, yes, actually," Colin responded a little breathlessly, having to activate his Spade ability to keep up with the fast Ferret over land. The sudden stop, unfortunately, was unexpected enough to send him skidding into one of the columns...and he blushed bright red as he quickly attempted to recover his composure, muttering apologies.
These quickly stopped though, as he saw where they were eating. "Oh, it looks lovely," Colin breathed, forgetting about his bruised beak (though it was his ego that had taken the greatest injury). Finally, he was going to a place with some class! Having cultivated a high aesthetic taste, the Cardinal held appreciation for all types of beauty, including architectural. "If the food matches up to the decor, it's bound to be wonderful. Not that I would doubt your taste anyway, Your Majesty," he amended quickly. He apparently had not picked up on the fact that Mia would rather be treated a bit more casually despite his Rank, and probably would not unless the Ferret specifically mentioned it. While good with most social cues, he was a little blind to others, and tended to misinterpret ones he had no frame of reference for...such as royalty not wanting to be treated like such.

Mia heard and simultaneously disregarded the starting comment on the curtains - curtains could wait until he was at least partially fed. His stomach kept reminding him of his lack of food in his belly and it was overpowering his more intelligent thoughts. Curtains required more thought process than he was currently capable of. He also failed to notice Colin's struggle to keep up with him, but this was a natural habit of the ferret's; Mia was generally too absorbed in his own world to acknowledge anyone else's unless it was thrown in his face.
He did cringe when the bird flew into the column, but decided to keep his mouth shut to avoid embarrassing the Villa even further. Suits knew he tripped over his own face often enough and was mocked for it.
"Oh, it does, it does," Mia responded vaguely, trying not to make a face at the use of title. He was used to it from the staff of the places he frequented - most of them used it in a friendly manner, as they'd known him his entire life - but from virtual strangers it was still off-putting. Perhaps if he spent more time in real society.... Naaah. He led Colin inside and they were seated immediately, fresh bread and cheese already placed on the table. The restaurant spoke of quiet money, used more in quality than in gaudiness; the linens were top-notch and the furniture well-made, but the design spoke of modesty rather than simply expensive.
A few pieces of bread later, Mia felt cohesive enough to actually hold up a conversation. "Right, so did I hear something about curtain samples?"

Colin was inwardly very grateful that there was no laughter and no comments about his embarrassing little collision. However, his lingering sense of shame kept him from attempting to start a conversation, and since the Queen was silent, the Cardinal also kept his beak shut as they entered the restaurant. He looked around, blue eyes widening slightly to show his appreciation of the tasteful decor. But it did speak of underlying money...the furniture wasn't gaudy but the quality was high. He hoped in the back of his mind that the Ferret was paying for this meal, and began to search his memory to see if he could recall if that had been mentioned earlier. He was too tactful to bring it up right then, of course.
Colin sat across from Mia, and nibbled on a piece of bread, wondering why the Ferret was suddenly being so quiet. When Mia finally spoke up, Colin jumped slightly, luckily not having any food in his beak right then, as he probably would have choked on it. Quickly recovering, he pulled out his bag. "Oh, yes, right here. One moment..."
His purple head disappeared for a moment as he leaned over his bag, pulling out the piece of fabric a moment later, lime green with the Spades symbol in silver. He passed it across the table with a claw, smiling. "I hope it will suffice?"
