Amherst nodded at Linnea. He had begun to wonder if her mysterious friend would ever be showing up. He wondered for a second if this was the type of friend whom she spoke of when she talked about 'most people.' He probably would not find out now.
"That sounds almost like a conversation ender, Linnea," he said hesitantly to the Card. "Will you be going then? And, if you are, could you use an escort home?"
He hesitated at continuing his line of thought. He wanted to ask, but felt it would be inappropriate. In a way, Amherst would have considered it a betrayal of the confidence he had built up between the Card and himself. But his coin pouch was getting lighter and lighter, and it was Linnea himself who suggested the Courts as an option.
Dammit, he would have to ask. He would have to take the risk. Amherst's eyes grew sad. "Linnea, you mentioned the Courts as an option for me. I know that we have known each other for but a little time, that I am only a diamond in many's eyes, and that this could be both awkward and a breach of etiquette, but do you think I might be introduced to your mother or at least someone in the Court of Hearts for possibilities of employment?"

She tapped her paws lightly on the on the table in thought. She supposed she was taking her leave. Though she probably could have said it in a better way. "I suppose I should be headed home."
So much for sneaking out and painting the town red. Then again it was hard to do that alone in the first place. She finished off the last of her drink she tried to figure out a way to tackle the man's last question, and of course he asked something else that made her eyes widen for a brief moment.
"Ah... well I don't know if my mother can give you a proper job. We do have one person who happens to be a Diamond working at the Court but she's just a babysitter. I suppose my mother could at least give you a decent recontamination that could get your hired in a lot of places. But I doubt you'd be able to work as a guard or something official like that."

Amherst thought for a moment. It wasn't exactly what he had hoped for, but it was something positive at the very least. A queen's recommendation could be very important, even more so when it was the Queen of Heart's.
"Thank you, Linnea," he told the Card. "Although you may not think so, the very fact that you would be willing to help me in such a way is more than I could have ever hoped for. I owe you a debt, Linnea, and I do not offer that statement lightly."
He stood up for a moment and did a grand bow with not a little flourish. The other bar patrons looked at him in great confusion and amusement, and then went back to their drinks. They most likely saw him as just another drunk, acting the part.
Hmmmm, it seemed Linnea looked a little put out when he mentioned 'home.' "If you are leaving, can I offer you an escort somewhere? It does not need to be home, wherever you are going. It is the least I can do."

Linnea watched in amazement as the bird got up and bowed. Oh that was terribly sweet of him wasn't it? A blush formed under her fur as she giggled. It was rare to find someone like this around, maybe Mom would have more use for him when he displayed his charm?
"I'm not going to argue about you owing me anything, since I doubt I could win against your charm." She said as she slipped off of the chair. She straightened out her air tank and readjusted her mask as Amherst asked her another question. She really was easy to read wasn't she?
"Well, could you escort me to a book store? There's something I've been looking for and it would only take a few minutes tops." She gave the man a hopeful look, hoping that she wasn't milking his kindness too greatly.

Amherst kept standing and offered Linnea his wing to help her up. "It would be my pleasure to escort you to the bookstore." He looked around the bar. His presence here seemed like a good idea at the time, but he certainly felt done here. He'd met a friendly Card, and that was all well and good, but he still did not have an employer. Still, he would find one in a better place than this.
He withdrew his wing all of a sudden and looked towards the door. "If you would excuse me for just one second..." And, with that, he disappeared out the front door. He looked at the bulletin board where his notice was posted. It seemed so promising at one point. With one motion, he ripped it off the board and crumbled it up and dropped it to the ground. "Inquiries closed," he said with a bit of finality.
He wandered back into the bar and again offered a wing to the Card. "Shall we?"
