His ears stood at full attention when she began the next bit with an apology. That's how father used to start off the survival training missions that were the toughest. He listened intently, a neutral expression on his face until she finished. He took a moment to let the information sink into his mind completely before finishing his drink. He nodded ever so slightly before looking up at her once more.
There's things I don't' understand either that I'd like to investigate, namely on why they decided to take it to the streets of the capitol. That, on it's own.... makes me terribly suspicious that there has been some manipulation going on.
He tapped the glass with his claws, his expression shifting a bit to a more.... pleasant then serious one. She trusted him, that was.... good to hear.
I must say though, the wayward son of a once great general returning to his roots after coming to his senses and resigning from the court seems like quite the brilliant guise. Those who knew my family will be expecting me to return anyway to pay my respects.
His gaze shifted briefly to his tail and it swayed ever so slightly from it's new position, his whiskers twitching a bit.
My sister would be the best route into the thick of things. No doubt she's wormed her way up in the ranks since I've been gone.
Once more his gaze shifted back to the Queen, she was originally a diplomat.... wasn't she? Her concerns for her realm were well grounded, and he'd shared similar fears abotu their persecution.
No doubt if they do move on to another realm, they'll be most likely to pick one with primarily brown fur. The Bog is the most logical as Solandria is just.... so very cold. If the Marsh was behind it all, I will do what I can to prevent this from happening to any more realms. This is madness and it has to stop somewhere.
There was a part of him that hoped someone was pulling the strings and that his own people hadn't come up with this all on their own. That part of it was selfish, the other half of it though.... if it was just someone making a grab for power then.... they would be easier to thwart then a realm-wide insanity. The sickness that wiped out hte Selkie Lakes was enough to make him believe that level of insanity was plausible.

She nodded. Good, he'd already thought of a very believable pretense to go under. Judging what he's said about his sister, she'd be delighted to hear he'd done that and think nothing more of it.
"To the public your title will be stripped, but we will know to save space for you. While the court cannot pay you without someone finding out where that money is going, any expenses you may need will come out of my pocket. That being said, I suggest you be wise with your spending."
She soaked in what he said. Brown fur, huh? Interesting. Basing a prejudice off color strictly. Either way, the Bog was still in the line of fire.
"For now concern yourself only with reporting until we get a better grasp of what's going on. Make no action that would link you back to this Court. All of Wonderland was affected in one day. There's not telling what they have left in their arsenal or are currently rebuilding."
She took his empty glass and her own and set them down on top of the liquor hutch.
"Have you met my daughter, Makenna? My first few communications with you will be through her. She'll be able to communicate with you without anyone else knowing. You will have your rank of King when I get your first report."

Understood. I would have to worry if it wasn't.
It felt... odd to think about that. Stripped of his title, even temporarily ... it was necessary, certainly, but that did not make it any easier. Just another thing you didn't realize you valued as much as you did until it was gone.
not conversationally, no, but we've met in passing a few times.
He generally scared children and had thus been trying to avoid hers as best he could. But.... they were all getting pretty grown up now, weren't they? he'd have to make more of an effort to meet them when he returned.
it's quite likely that I'll be gone by morning. She left her things here, and I know she won't stay away long. Shall I meet with her Excellence Peaches before I go?
He'd have to pack things up as if he were really leaving for good. It would be.... interesting. At the very least maybe he could find a few things he'd managed to lose before heading back to the Marsh. Had it changed any in all the years he'd been gone?

"Very well, then. Before you leave in the morning, please report back to me. I'll have you meet her so you can recognize her voice when she gets in contact with you. Also, I have something to give you to aid you in this, but that will be when I have you come back tomorrow," she ambled back to her desk to sit in her seat opposite from Jarvis. She gave him a soft, friendly smile.
"I actually was about to request you meet with her. She'll have a bit of information to get you started and could give you some parting advice," She swiveled her chair to the side so her side was facing the King-prospect. (Corvies were brilliant little things.)
"Also, I would like to add that even in our own court, do not speak of this freely. I assume you can guess that, but I figured we should cover this. The only people who really know what you're up to is myself, Xiven, Peaches and Apocalypse. And then, Apocalypse only knows because if the Bog is attacked, he'll know to not include you in his venture to rip every Josiggy in sight to shreds. Even Makenna will not fully understand why she is helping arrange a meeting between us. She will think it's because I'll be asking you to reconsider leaving us."
She turned back and rested her elbows on her desk. Her expression was more friendly now, less deadly serious than before. "I believe that concludes it for now, unless you have something to add. Go get ready to leave."
She hoped Peaches wouldn't be too hard for him to find this evening.

He took it all in silently, nodding where it was appropriate. When it came to not speaking about the whole thing openly though, his grin returned. He knew better, but he was a little surprised that Makenna wouldn't know why she was contacting him. She was still a child though, so it made sense on that level. Hopefully the girl wouldn't be too confused.
And then when he heard why Apocolypse was in the know, he closed his eyes and lowered his head a bit, notched ears flicking back to rest against his skull.
If it comes to that point, I will be hard pressed not to fight at his side. Madness on that scale should not be permitted to remain.
He whole heatedly hoped that it wouldn't come to that, but if it did? Well, his loyalties had always been more for his suit then his realm.
He opened his eyes and got to his feet, giving her another little bow.
I'll have to find her Excellence and start packing then, I shall see you bright and early, Your Majesty, to give you my official ... 'resignation'.

She gave him a slight smile and a flick of her hand toward the door. "Make sure you get it in writing. We want it 'official'."~~~~~~~ "<Mama! These are so beautiful!>"The young Bog girl sitting on the velvet-covered couch ran her clawed hands delicately over the lacquered crocodile skin in her lap. To most people the bracers were "shit green", but to her, she saw the different hues and values of brown and green of the complex texture of the scales and how they reflected the light. "<Aren't they? What they can do is even better. Now, be careful with those, they aren't for you.>" Heilyn pulled a brush out of her desk and gently began working out the knots in Makenna's thick, oily hair. Those wings... even for someone born and raised in the Bog, the leathery wings on her Human form were spooky and a bit unnerving. She played with the girl's hair until her guest arrived. (bwaha, sorry this took so long.)

The chipmunk nodded and slipped out into the halls once more, his bristled ever so slightly as he ran things over in his mind once again.
_______________
Getting the official paperwork had turned out to be a little easier then he'd thought, but he had been prepared to be thoroughly drilled. He had a feeling that with everything going on his leaving wasn't exactly that important. He was quite content to just stick with that option, even if it made him feel a bit guilty. He would have liked to stay and help out where needed, but at the same time he felt as though he was going off to do something a little more important on a broader scale.
_______________
He had kept his word and arrived at Heilyn's door early the next morning, the documents tucked neatly into an envelope. He took a momet to try in vain once more to smooth down his unruly fur before lifting a clawed hand to knock upon her door and wait to be welcomed inside.
[[kind of awful, sorry >.<]]

Makenna kicked her legs and hummed merrily until there was a knock at the door. Makenna's posture straightened immediately and she looked up at Heilyn with big eyes. "<Yes, you can answer the door, little one,>" Heilyn said, hardly hiding a laugh. Nearly 10 and still excited about answering doors. Makenna gently put down the bracers on the couch next to her and leaped off the couch. A pitter patter of tiny, excited feet rush toward the door and flung it open. She didn't give Jarvis so much as a 'Hello' before rushing back to climb onto the couch. Rather small for her age, but she took after her father's (technically, mother's) breed, but not realm. Heilyn stood, her knees giving her grief. She ignored them and greeted her guest. "Welcome back, Jarvis," whether or not he closed the door didn't matter to her. "I see you have you paperwork. I wish you the best and hope to see you again, even if only for a drink. Makenna?" The young girls large, slit-pupil yellow eyes blinked then she picked up the bracers and brought them to Jarvis, handing them to him directly. Heilyn in the mean time ambled to her desk, knees still complaining, and picked up an envelope on her desk. She waved a hand at Makenna and the girl went back to the door to close it as Heilyn spoke again. "That is my parting gift to you. They were made in the Bog. The skin is made from crocodile endemic to only that Realm. Very sturdy, and as a spearman, I know how important it is to protect your wrists, especially the foremost," she handed him the envelope, "This is your final paycheck. Things have been a little crazy lately, so please open the envelope to double check my work."Upon opening the envelope, Jarvis will find a check, as promised, of everything the court owes him as far as pay goes. There is also a note with instructions at the top telling Jarvis to hand the note back to Heilyn, saying nothing of the contents. The rest of the note explains what the bracers are magically capable of. Crocodile Leather Bracers: These thick leather bracers are very obviously made from the skin of a crocodile with the highest ridge of the scales going up the center. On their own, they can provide decent protection to the wrists. However, they have a bit of magic attached. The spell protects the wearer from lie-detection magic, making anyone (up to King rank) believe what the wearer wants them to believe for up to 5 hours a day. Though if a Card with a lie spell of any sort that's worth 100p or more, uses their spell on the wearer...it will still function perfectly, rendering the bracers useless at that time. [There you go! I hope this item is satisfactory for the trade of the Tamis bits you have. :3 ]
