"Curious? That's putting it lightly. More like we've been stamped down for so long that we're actually beginning to believe the rest of the world that we aren't worth anything.. to the point the Courts seem to be forgetting just -what- they are. They really need a wakeup call."
The young Midori spoke up again. "Well, it sounds like you're on da right track, Missy. Perhaps ye should take your own advice and do something about it yourself."
Okay, this was getting a little annoying. Brooke's ears flattened against her head and gave the Midori a level stare. "I'm sorry, but who exactly are you?"
Never did the young lad seem embarrassed by his forwardness. That ridiculous grin perpetually on his face, he twirled his beard with a finger before responding. "Ah, me apologies. The name is Davy. Don't mine me interest in the conversation but many a Club is… interested in seein' some changes in the way things are run. An' in front of me I see two women who seem ta give a cuss about the state of things. Seem bright enough… And I assume that you, dear Esterberry lady, can run mental circles around me any day. Ah.. don't mind me. It's just an interesting combination. Interesting potential."
Brooke cast a glance toward Phaedra as if to say 'can you believe this guy??'

Phaedra locked eyes with Brooke for a moment, shaking her head a wee bit to indicate that she did not have a clue. His sudden presence was still a little baffling. She turned back to the winged fellow. He smiled too much, which Phaedra typically found untrustworthy, but he seemed otherwise like an ordinary person, albeit a meddling one. All of their interesting potential aside, she was somewhat skeptical of his claims.
"You seem rather acutely interested as well," Phaedra said, mostly conversationally, a little pointedly. She had very little problem with being forward either. Cripes, she could really go for another cup of coffee. She felt she needed to be more caffeinated for this situation. Actually, she felt like she needed to be more caffeinated for just about everything. "I don't suppose you've been fomenting any ideas, since you seem to like to spread the seeds elsewhere."

Davy seemed most unfazed by Phaedra's most suggestive tone, actually laughing merrily as he folded up his newspaper and set it on the table. 'Oh aye, I'm interested. More interested because it seems other Clubs have a similar idea but… Well. Come now… Da Midori aren't always known for being proactive." His low chuckle rose up again, flashing the two women a garish wink.
It wasn't really winning him any hearts. It seemed both women had a hard stare on him. He threw his hands up in defeat. "Alright.. alright. I see I'm not gonna be winning any popularity contests with either of ye. But here… if you guys end up wantin' to get something together.. mail me. I'm serious." He pulled out a small pad from a pouch, jotting down an address that was a P.O. box in the Midori, jutting it out toward the girls.
Brooke paused and cast a glance at her table companion, then back at the boy.

Phaedra looked at Brooke again, then back to the boy, gaze turning even more deeply skeptical for a moment. Were she a wee tot, her mother might have told her that her face was going to freeze that way, a permanent frown. On the one hand, she had no idea as to this boy's repute, and he had not made the most stellar of impressions; also, he certainly did not seem to have anything concrete in mind.
On the other hand, her charity gland was pumping magnanimity through her veins, urging her to do something; this wasn't even an ordinary case like her trying to help Torques overcome their curse, or that ill-fated little support group for Gardens men. This was her very own Suit. This was an area where she might actually be able to succeed.
Oh, damn it. She had just talked herself into this, hadn't she. She reached over and plucked the address from Davy's hand.
"We'll see," she said.

Regardless of their scornful stares, Davy seemed undyingly please with himself, leaning back into his chair before putting his coin on the table. "Well then. I'll leave you ladies to your meal." He paused, as if still waiting for them to introduce themselves. Seeing that it wasn't going to happen, he merely smiled and stood up from his seat. "Well, it was nice meeting you. Remember… mail me."
And with that, the chipmunk left the bakery.
And with perfect timing! Brooke's Mufaletta was set down in front of her and her eyes went wide. "Oh, good! I'm starving." Literally, but that was beside the point. Without hesitation, she picked up a quartered piece of her huge sandwich and took a bite. Perhaps Phaedra would find things to talk about while she ate, but for the first minute or so while she devoured the first corner of her meal, she allowed Phaedra to do most of the talking.

When Brooke's food came, Phaedra ordered another coffee, and fortunately it was very quick in coming. She added her sugar and her cream and some more sugar for good measure, and she sipped at it. For a second she watched Brooke dig into her meal; the Midori intermission had briefly made her forget that this woman probably had a lot more at stake in this Davy person being useful than she did.
"Well, that was rather more excitement than I had planned on getting out of my afternoon," she said, not much expecting Brooke to respond while she ate, but always ready to air her thoughts. "I think out of pure curiosity I may actually send him a letter. If it turns out he's a charlatan or some manner of pervert, we can always mail him something unpleasant. An acquaintance recently lent me an absolute travesty of a novel about vampires; I think it would be an ideal punishment."

Finally able to lean back a moment to reevaluate the capacity of her stomach, she sipped her water to ease the sudden pain in her gut from the sudden onslaught of food. She sat for a moment, expression rather pensive before setting the glass back on the table.
"I wouldn't mind helping, myself. Perhaps instead of being coarse with him, we can make it C.O.D. Perhaps if he's serious, he won't mind the postage." Brooke offered, hoping to seem helpful. Rather suddenly, she seemed almost keen on the idea. 'Hopeful' would be a good way to put it. It was probably rather naive of her to think so.
"I'd like to go see the Midori one day. I was so close to it considering where I lived, but I never thought to go there. I only saw it in the distance when I was sailing to get off of the Lakes. We hit Morganberry shores so I never got to step foot on it."

It seemed a neat little test, she agreed. "I'm still sending him the book if it doesn't pan out, though." Mostly she just wanted to be rid of thing, and donating to a place where the general, unaware public might read it seemed like the height of irresponsibility.
"It all seems like rather too much relaxation to me," Phaedra said. She eyed her stack of notes and research. She had nothing against the place, but they did not seem like a very good fit; she couldn't imagine being away from a project for very long, just sight-seeing. "Though admittedly I find the idea of reading on an abandoned part of the beach appealing." She gave Brooke a long, thoughtful look. She wasn't particularly adept at stepping sensitively around what might be difficult topics, so she tried not to mention the Lakes at all. She tapped the little slip of paper with the address. "Well, perhaps if all goes well, you'll get the chance."
