Hate crimes were generally something no one thought about. Not until they happened. Petunia was more than a little surprised to find out that someone she knew was horribly injured because of some elitist asshats trying to compensate for something. But nothing could actually change what had happened. So she found herself at an Esterberry hospital with a fruit basket for the injured Mikael. The canine mix knew full well that it wouldn't make him feel better, but it was the only thing she could think to do. He really didn't deserve something like this. He was a terribly nice guy, and actually rather smart. Of course that was probably what got him beat up in the first place. Petunia tried her best to perk up when she finally found her room. She wasn't looking forward to seeing him all beat up. With the basket balanced on her back she walked in as brightly as she could. "Hey Mikael! You have a special visitor today!"

Mikael... still wasn't really quite with it. He hadn't necessarily been critical when he came in, but the bleeding in his spleen had been enough to cause great concern. The doctors did what they could, mending broken fingers instead of his cracked ribs per his loud and delusional begging when brought in. Cracked ribs he could deal with; broken fingers would have meant his work would suffer. He'd been in some sort of drug-induced half sleep when he heard a voice. Visitor? He turned his head, expecting... he didn't know what to expect. His mother had already been around. A sibling, perhaps? What he saw was something that made a long finger come up and check to make sure his mask was on. Was it leaking? A bit of panic rose up within him. "N-nurse.... there's a floating basket of fruit in my room!" Were the fruits going to grow mouths and devour him? To get revenge for all the delicious kiwi fruits and oranges he'd devoured in his life? Oh the horror! When Petunia's head came into view though... Mikael exhaled to emphatically that it was almost amusing. "Oh Suits and Stars, I thought I was hallucinating. I'm -so- glad you're not a floating sentient basket of fruit set on devouring me!"

Petunia couldn't help but chuckle a bit at his terrified request for the nurse. Honestly if she had known he was that drugged she probably would have come a little later. The canine mix shrugged off the basket, so she could slip in in her mouth and put it on the stand next to him.
She didn't actually talk until her mission was complete. And when she was done she wasn't sure what to say.
"I somehow think sentient fruit baskets would have better things to do than eat people, like trying to liberate basket kind for the evil clutches of Card-dom." She commented with a smile. "I take it you're still feeling off."
Of course he was. He'd been beaten pretty badly and he still looked out of sorts. Maybe she should ask one of the nurses to see when he would be getting out. Then she could try to treat him to dinner or something...

"Basket liberation certainly seems like a more logical means of retribution." Mikael muttered, nodding sagely. He turned his head to get a better look at his visitor. Finally, his eyes flashed within the darkness of his mask with recognition. Goodness, he hadn't expected her at all.
"Oh... hey." His tail wagged weakly. "How perceptive, giving a bat-yote a fruit basket. Thank you." It was very kind of her; and completely unexpected. He'd helped the girl study for her finals, but he'd hardly have expected her to give a damn after what had happened. Had she not heard of just why they'd attacked him? Not to mention with finals and all, she'd probably not even have time to care. But here she was.
Suddenly, his eyes flashed with alarm. "W-what day is it? I-I missed our study group didn't I...."

Petunia smiled a bit. At least he appreciated the fruit basket. She was happy that she had actually managed to guess right.
She blinked with surprise at his comment. Study group? He was seriously worried about that when he was laid up in bed beaten and broken. Her ears pressed against her skull as she narrowed her eyes.
"Why are you so worried about a study group when you're in the hospital? Get your priorities straight, all right?" She snorted as she hopped on to one of the nearby chairs. "I finished all my finals anyway, so it's no big deal. As far as I know I'm passing with flying colors so you don't have to worry about me. You just have to get better."
Oh if only her parents could see her now. Her mother would be having a heart attack and her father would be overjoyed. Oh priorities.

She wasn't the only one that was surprised; Mikael's eyes widened as she suddenly began to berate him for his priorities. But.. but...
His eyes followed her as she sat down in one of the sterile, bland chairs that they so loved to use in hospitals. It had some vague attempt at attractive architecture with a coloring that was garish at best; they'd used cool colors and hues of blue and green in an attempt to give an air of calm in the room. It was a hue that had begun to annoy him as he'd stared at that cushion for hours after becoming conscious. He'd had half a mind to tell them to remove the unsightly thing.
Now though, he was glad it was there. Perhaps having a comfortable place to sit would mean she'd stay longer. "Oh..." Mikael said lamely. "I'm glad to hear that you're doing well. Last thing I need is to get beat up again, this time by angry parents."
Immediately after saying it, he realized what a douchebag thing it was to say. Berating himself mentally, his eyes squinted shut and he gave a soft hissing breath as if it had caused him physical injury. "Damnit.. no.. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that."

Petunia blinked at his comment. At least he had a sense of humor while being laid up in bed the way he was. He still looked pretty damn horrible the more she looked at him. She would have offered him a hug if she was that sort of girl.
Instead she snorted. "No need to watch your mouth around me. You are the one who is in the hospital bed, and you know from our study sessions that I'm never one for being politically correct. Honesty and your help managed to get me through that lovely art history class."
She shrugged. "And anyway, my dad would probably talk you to death instead of beating you." The mix stuck her tongue out at the man. Hopefully he would get the idea that she was okay with any of his jokes. Sensitivity wasn't one of Penny's strong suits.
"You must be bored out of your mind here," she said after a moment. "Is there anything I can bring to you to keep you entertained while you're stuck in this... awfully bland room."
White. White and blue. Tacky patterns notorious of Esterberry designers. This was probably one of the major reasons why she dislike hospitals.

(Tiiiiime Skip!)
"And this... is my office! Well, it's the reception area, at least. My desk is right over there." He didn't bother to introduce the lackluster secretary across the room; that mouse was a real -bitch- and he really didn't feel like dealing with her. Instead, Mikael gestured to the empty desk that he'd been working at for the past few years. The room was large, with seating areas for those waiting to seek the council of the Queen. Nobody sat in those seats today of course; the Queen was out on business which meant Mikael could show Petunia around without invoking the wrath of Donnie for giving out tours outside her door.
"Getting an office of my own is in the works." Mikael mentioned to his guest under his breath, not allowing the other secretary to be privy to his comment. "For now though it's just convenient for me to stay near the Queen until we find a more permanent secretary to take my place."
Ah yes, his promotion to Jack had only been a few months before.. but finding a secretary that met the needs of Queen Donnie was no easy feat. Mikael liked to think it was because few was up to the caliber of performance that he had been capable of during his reign as Donnie's personal secretary.
"Mary, don't smudge those corners. Her Majesty will send those right back to you if you do." He stoutly ignored the daggers sent his way through the mouse's stare. Mikael didn't care; he was showing off to a pretty Esterberry lady and the secretary would just have to deal with being bossed around by her superior that day.

This was nice. Certainly better than her trying to... explain what she did in a cafe at the Capital. She had no idea how he would react to such news. Her father had cried. Her mother had scoffed. But Mikael wasn't an Esterberry.
She still had her doubts.
"This is one heck of a place," She said quietly after he explained where they were. She had heard quite a few rumors about the Queen of Spades and she was happy that the woman wasn't in. Heaven only knew what she would do to a Diamond as low as her walking around.
She looked to Mikael, "So do you know where your new office is going to be? We can check out the area and leave dear Mary to her paperwork. I don't want to be too much of a distraction." She sent the woman a wink.
So much for being good about not being snarky.

Ohoho, snarky! He was glad that the smirk that went across his face was unreadable, because it nearly threatened to curl behind his ears. Normally Mikael didn't like to be outwardly sinister towards a person, but when a person tried to make his life hell and roll their eyes every time he tried to help him.. well.. that asshole side of him really liked to come out.
"Oh! That's not a bad idea. Come one.. it's just down the hall."
As Petunia turned, he was sure to point a finger at the low-ranked mouse, stilling her half-open mouth before some shitty piece of snark came out of it. Aha! Power in his very long fingertip!
It was pretty standard, a genericly long hallway filled with doors that led to offices. Many of them were empty, but there really weren't all that many attending Jacks.
"It'll likely be this one.. after the remodel" He pointed to the open door and the stripped bare room within. Obviously a spell had went awry in there... a slime had ruined the stucco and wallpaper within. It reeked of plaster and other chemicals and ladders and other such things were stacked in a corner. "They had to start fresh; magical accident or some sort. That's fine with me because I was hoping for some level of customization. Till they get all the plaster up though.. not much for me to comment on."
He scratched the back of his head, grinning behind his mask. "Suits, I feel like I've been talking about myself this whole time! You haven't told me a thing about what you've been up to."
