[Updated][FA] Height Chart of DOOM!

Let's start with this post goes on forever, and I'm going to angrily stretch the page. Sorry? I made it a lot better by making a tiny version you can click on. Anyway. Vyn dared me to do this, and we all know what I do with dares...

Okay so, I actually made individual pictures for each character, detailed and colored and then slapped them in a height chart. Below are most of the images, Ciel was in a previous post. No rabbits and no dead characters, as you can see.

Linnea is going to join a punk band... but she couldn't decide on gloves.


Loreta... took me a while because her wings wouldn't sit properly.

Nerissa, I was going to draw her in something slutty but I gave up.

Viola came out really well. Third favorite, possibly second since she could beat Qwin in a fight.


Wyatt being unimpressive and trying to hide his chub. Seriously I couldn't draw him without his arms crossed.

I went through and stared at each of these in turn, reading all of the notes as I went by. Then I went and stared at the height chart for a while, flipping slowly back and forth and marveling at the Card world in its potential size complications of relationships. In their own way, Cards never cease to amaze me. Also, I have a massive, abiding, burning love for height charts like you simply wouldn't believe and so this squees me beyond any and all reason.

There is a LOT of content here, so I'm going to keep my comments sort of centered around a few things. First off, I am also a psycho height chart fetishist. Or something I stopped doing them only because I'd end up drawing 5 renditions, spiraling down into a psychosis I couldn't draw myself out of because it would never. End. Up. Perfect. Gah!

But with the art. Eurwen. It's obvious that she got the most love. (well, you know what I mean) There is something about the shading, color and pose that is -working- in this that I don't always see in all of your sketches and works. Very fluid and believable pose that I want to see more of out of you. the scars, the eye.. the shading. Yes. I can't put it completely into words but you need to harness whatever muse juice you got to make this, and explore that. Very nice.

Have you ever thought of when you do your 'sketch' style, to perhaps focus in on more of a 'contour line' style? Perhaps less 'building block' and more thought on volume. I'd be interested to see what you could do with that.


Edit:: You DO know this will likely start a trend, yes?

Jenn: I'm happy to push all of your happy buttons, if I knew how much people liked Height Charts I might have done one sooner. <3 Glad to provide squee candy like you wouldn't believe.

NakoThe height chart still isn't perfect, and really I'm going to sit on it a while before I tweak it. I can totally understand the compulsion to fix it constantly.

As for Eurwen, yes, she does stand apart. She started the process since I was so utterly thrilled that I fixed my paint program Paint Tool Sai, and she was meant to be a separate piece entirely who ended up in the same file as Ciel. I really should strive to do more like that. Thank you.

And yes, I have done contour lines before. Two solid years in college all my work for particular classes was done in the style that was approved by the Professor. Neat contour lines. I've found that it tends to suck the life out of the motion I give my work, and I have yet to find a happy medium. A solid year of critique from my peers going "well yeah but... it's not like your sketches, it's kind of dead" made me scream bloody murder and give up on it for a bit. However I have found a program that doesn't make lines I do on the computer look like I have horrible arm twitch. So I might be doing a few more contour line drawings in the near future. I just have to get over the tiny hiccup of the voice in the back of my head that constantly parrots all that negative critique I got in art school... and me not having as much fun with it.

XD and I never intended on starting a trend, but hey, that might be fun!

Holy god, this is completely glorious. Like. I am without words. The amount of work that went into every little sketch is delightful to me, and I love seeing how they all look together. The colors, dude! Fuck a duck I am completely enamored with the colors. Really, I think each one does stand out as an individual piece. So often these sorts of thing don't have good details in each character. So. Mega love.

And yes. You are going to start something with this. I know it because I am already going to open my drawing program. LOLS.

I had to keep clicking and sneaking peeks at your chart. XD Norton is convinced your uploading website MEANS ME GREAT HARM. But it was worth it! Because stuff here is awesome. I really like the concept outfit you did for Castiel--and Eurwen and Qwin are both smokin'. Devika looks very elegant. Gigi reminds of Sakaki for some reason with her giant girl thing going on, it makes me laugh. YOU ARE EIGHT FEET TALLER THAN ALL YOUR PEERS GIGI but also you look so shy and sweet!

In short this is just a lot of win spewed merrily across my browser, and I never want to clean it up! <3

This is full of win. I can't even imagine the patience that went into doing this, and it was so worth it (in my opinion). I will confess that you probably have started a trend, and I have been doodling some of my characters in their biped forms just to test out height differentials. OH GOD. XD

I think Gigi is officially one of my favorites. Super colors, giant giraffeness... it's just great. She's so sweet and confused looking - a "gentle giant" for sure!

I'm excited to see if other height charts start popping up in the FA section.

Xenon: :3 Thank you so much! I have to say the colors were the best part of putting this together, though admitedly I worked on it so long when I looked away from the computer my color sense was off. And woo! I'm glad I sucessfully made things stand alone, I was a little worried. <33 And I'm always happy to inspire.
