Staring around the beautiful room that could no longer be hers, Donnie felt oddly empty. From the hand-painted mural on the wall courtesy of Mikhael to the linens and accessories scattered around, the space had been hers for years now. So many years that leaving pulled more than a little at her heart. For so many reasons, she didn't want to leave. But she had to. A Diamond couldn't rule the Court of Spades. Her slithey twined around her neck affectionately and she took some small comfort from Trudy's presence. At least her familiar hadn't been lost to her when her Suit changed. That would have been... awful. Her lifelong companion. No longer a summon, but at least still with her. She felt lost, like her thoughts were floating and disorganized. She hated being disorganized inside of her own head. She got this way when she felt angry or frustrated. Now she just felt more hollow and pained. Slowly she picked up a portrait from the nightstand, a rudimentary sketch of herself, her children, and her King that a visiting artist had gifted her. A talented young Villa... they all looked happy in this picture. It went carefully into a box, wrapped in a shirt to protect the glass. How was she going to broach all of this to her children? Her lover? Where were they going to end up? Her daughters were still Spades and still welcome in the Court. Could she tear them away from their father and their home? All of this just made her head and her heart ache.

She still didn't believe it had happened. Word had trickled down to her from a hundred eagerly chattering mouths, but not from the single mouth that would actually be able to fully answer her questions. In a way, she felt betrayed, hurt even. She had never imagined that Donnie would leave without telling Raina long in advance, and while she understood that something... unpredictable had occurred, she had still assumed that the truth would be coming directly from the Queen. Her surprise only increased when the next news about Donnie came from a page, letting the King know that their old Queen had returned to clear out her room. After a few minutes to digest that news fully, Raina made her way through the halls of the palace to the place she had once known so very well. Inside, she could hear someone moving around. There was a kind of odd familiarity about the sound of the steps, and the Solandrian knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that the rumors had been true. Donnie was here. Donnie was here, and she had gone into her room and closed the door without a single word to her old King and sometimes-lover. The irritation grew, subtly, within her. Sucking in a breath through her teeth and assuring herself that there was surely a reason for this, and it was bound to be a damn good one, Raina knocked on the door briskly.

Donnie had begun to clear out some of her spare human clothing when a knock sounded on the door. She grimaced, gripping a skirt too tightly, before tossing the wrinkled garment back in the drawer and moving to answer whoever decided to bother her.
Might be the new Queen, in which case she would be exceedingly cordial and gracious. She wanted him to do well with her Court. The fact that he was a male only rankled somewhat. She both liked and respected Colin, as much as she could respect someone of his gender.
Might be one of her children. That would... well... Sophie had probably already gone to find her sister following their return. That was distinctly possible.
Might be...
"Raina." The word felt flat on her tongue. Not unwelcome, but not overly warm. She sounded tired even in her own ears. After a second, she stepped away from the door. "Please come inside. There are some things you'll need to know."
