The hair on the back of the rat-eagle's neck bristled, and the feathers on his tail fanned in a rather distinct display of anxiety and fear. however, he couldn't help but be driven by an unyielding curiosity to poke, prod and sample these plant-esque beings. Perhaps it was an after effect of growing up in Corvistowne but... gah ... he had to know.
He sealed his sample of the first beast in one of 3 empty vials he carried before carefully approaching the one the feline had knocked out of the equation. His little rounded rat ears perked a bit at the discovery of ooze on the floor next to this one. His tail curled up a bit before he stooped down, eying the cat warily with his remaining eye before touching the ooze with his fingertips.
He put his thumb and pointer together, rolling the substance between them to test it's consistency. He'd bring out vial two and fill it most of the way with a sample if nothing too terribly odd became of him from touching the ooze.... blood.... stuff?

With a sudden stumble, Teo slumps to the floor unconscious. Seems like this was all a bit too much for his mind. Continue searching around, just don't leave him too close to the dead monster...bad form, don't you know?
Tavor was able to capture samples without any adverse effects. Kristoff's search through the suitcase pulled up what looks like the the poor person's essentials; pictures of what look like family, a small amount of clothing, a few sentimental odds and ends...some coins (3 unassigned p). Whoever this was, they were running off. The rest of the room contains a broken dresser, a tightly shut closet, and a small ceiling fan...

Kristoff made the executive decision to let one of the motherly, caring-ass types deal with the kid. He didn't do kids if he had the choice, and when he didn't he did... Not well at all, if his example at the vending machine had been any indication.
The money was quickly pocketed, the photos scanned and pushed away, the clothing tossed around the room carelessly in the feline's search. It seemed odd to him, in a way. Clearly they'd been in a rush... But what had they been running from? He couldn't see a sign of a struggle beyond the horrible monsters. He pulled a photo out, keeping it for the time being - he wanted it as a way to try and identify any future bodies they might run into. If they were dead, who would care if he came back later and properly looted the place?
The ceiling fan caught his eye. Tail lashing, he surveyed the room, finally focusing on the broken dresser and bodily shoving it closer to the fan. Then he climbed atop it, rearing onto his hind legs to either place his paws on the fan or get a better look at it, if his height was insufficient.

The rat-eagle slipped the new vial onto his belt as well before wiping the ooze on his hip and standing up again. He saw the scruffy cat inside yet another room, rummaging through some poor, probably deceased person's things and entered the room with a soft sigh. That just seemed wrong. Then again, the way he acted? Yeah, he was pretty sure the feline didn't really own anything of his own.
He scanned the room with his eye, leaving the cat to.... whatever the hell he was doing and stepped toward the closet with a simultaneous twitch of ears and tail. The closet was closed, but it wasn't the lure of someone else's personal belongings that pulled him toward it... it was the possibility of someone being inside. After all, the closest was Emozione's favorite place to stay during thunderstorms and hide and seek so.... why not?
He tested the door, locked, and then brought his hand up to knock lightly on the door, speaking in his most soothing tone.... the type he'd use with any of his children.
Hello? Is there anyone in there? We won't hurt you.
Well, except maybe Kristoff.... but he wasn't going to say that.

It would be Brooke that takes it upon herself to move the unconscious bird, pulling him further away from the monster.
Brandy opted to stay near the monster, holding his spade out in case it leapt to life once again. He carefully listened for a change in its breathing, or a shifting in its movement. Whether it would or not.. who would know? Paranoid, every now and again he'd think it would move, giving a small flinch. Grimacing, he moved around and tried to find a face, or something similar. Was there any part of it that was a Card at all? And if so.. could that happen to them?
He glanced over his shoulder nervously as Brooke slowly made into the room after Kristoff. He seemed to be inspecting a ceiling fan. That was all well and good, she supposed… but a close caught her eye. She gripped her shovel tightly and moved closer to it, putting her hand on the knob and turning it slowly before pulling it open. She was careful to stand away from the front of the door itself in case something was inside.

Even as Brooke tried to pull Teo away from the scene, the odd little monster she "rescued" earlier, suddenly snapped its head out of her bag, opened its mouth...and fired what appeared to be a bolt of sound, so high-pitch it couldn't be heard, right at the boy's head! Teo's entire outline shifted for a few seconds, and then vanished. Quite completely.
The little monster snarled and fought its way free before hopping down with a series of loud, metallic clicks, and jerking about near Brooke's feet. It seems to...like her? Careful about the others though, we ought not to ask for another attack from it.
Kristoff's inspection showed him that someone had gone through the trouble of taping a note up to one of the blades! When grabbed and unfolded, a tiny, silver key fell out, along with a little note that read: The amounts are not as Gus discussed, please meet me at the square on Tuesday for re-training. Please bring your list. Strange...
Tavor's coaxing words brought an odd noise from the closet! Though, when opened, there doesn't appear to be anything living in there...not Card-sized anyway. Careful, there's a lot of piled up boxes and old clothes flung around...who knows if there's something else alive in there...
Brooke peered over Tavor's shoulder as he opened the door. (Sorry, Kitty opened the closet first). Brandy's inspection allowed him to see bits of fur sticking out between the vines and, after some prodding and digging, if he could take it...a rank and Suit marking... Five of Spades.

At the little sounds his little white ears twitched again, followed by his nose as his cheek muscles twitched to splay his whisker forward. There was something in here ... but he highly doubted it was a card. Well, it wasn't a plant monster since it didn't leap out and try to kill them, he was conscious of someone standing near him ... Brooke or Brandy by the general sound of the breathing and height. He was a little too interested here to look back.
He continued to speak in the same gentle tone as before.
Come on now, we'll get you out of here. Just show me where you are.
He scooted forward a little bit to start moving some of the clothes out of the closet and onto the floor in the room in case whatever this was might be hiding in them. Hopefully he wasn't setting things on someone's feet and making them upset, he wasn't paying attention and he'd like to not be maimed again.
